Kaladin, Knight Radiant (completed)

23 posts in this topic

Building from the foundation @Lindel set, me and @voidlightx completed the lyrics for the Stormlight version of the first Hamilton song. It was really fun, and I'm really proud of how it turned out.

We are planning on doing a full cast recording if it's possible, so if you want to join, DM me, I'm creating a discord group to coordinate everything.

Spoilers through RHYTHM OF WAR.

Spoiler

Kaladin Knight Radiant

[MOASH]

How does a darkeyed, bridgeman, son of a surgeon

With depression dropped in the middle of a

Forsaken spot on the shattered plains

By Amaram enslaved left impotent

Go on to be a hero and a Radiant?

[LOPEN]

A Windrunner this fighter’s load ain’t gettin’ lighter

Got a lot farther by working a lot harder,

And being a fearless charger

Never fallin’ to the archers

For months he kept on runnin’, thinkin’ he’d die like a martyr

[ROCK]

And every day while slaves were being slaughtered and carted away

Across the plains he struggled to keep his guard up

Inside, he was wishing all the pain and darkness would stop

The brother was ready to jump to end it forever

[TEFT]

Then an Honorspren came, with an invitation to stay

Our man saw a glimmer of hope, turning night to day

With Stormlight like the old Knights, started fighting in a new way

Swore an oath in the frey, a storming brilliant display

[MOASH]

Well the word got around, they said, here comes a Desolation

Started speaking the Ideals, the Journey before Destination

Honor may be dead, but I’ll see what I can do.

All of Roshar’s gonna know about your you. What’s your name, man?

[KALADIN]

I’m Kaladin, Knight Radiant,

That’s right I’m Kaladin Knight Radiant

And with what little strength I haven’t spent

I’ll keep them safe, keep them safe

[SYL]

When he was twelve, his father thieved, disbelieved, truth-hidden

Three years later, see Stormblessed and his brother fear-ridden

Half-dead fightin’ ‘gainst their own kin, Roshar’s sin

[FULL COMPANY EXCEPT KALADIN (whispering)]

And Stormblessed was relentless but his brother didn’t win

[DALINAR & COMPANY

Moved against Helaran, the others called it suicide

Left him with nothin' but ruined pride, something new inside

A voice saying

“Stormblessed, you gotta pick up yourself.

He didn’t retreat, was branded with ‘sas nahn’ and lost himself

[MOASH & COMPANY]

There would have been nothin’ left to do

For someone less resolute

He woulda been dead, dropped by the arrows

Without a grieving tear of sadness

Started tryin', fightin' for his late brother's Highprince

Tradin’ knobweed sap and stems and all the things he couldn’t pinch

Scammin' for every mark he can get his hands on

Plannin' for the future see him now as he stands on (ooh)

The edge of the Gate headed for a new land

In Urithiru you can be a new man

[COMPANY & KALADIN]

In Urithiru you can be a new man (I’ll keep them safe)

In Urithiru you can be a new man (I’ll keep them safe)

In Urithiru you can be a new man

In Urithiru

I’ll keep them safe!

[COMPANY]

Kaladin, Knight Radiant! (Kaladin, Knight Radiant!)

We are waiting in the field for you (waiting in the field for you)

You could never back down

You never learnt to hate the fight!

Oh, Kaladin, Knight Radiant! (Kaladin, Knight Radiant!)

When Alethkar sings for you

Will they know what you overcame?

Will they know you rewrote the game?

Roshar will never be the same, oh

[MOASH, MEN, & COMPANY]

The crew is in the chasm now

See if you can spot them

Keep them safe

Another shash-branded slave

Comin’ up from the bottom

Keep them safe

His enemies destroyed his rep

And Alethkar forgot him

[SKAR & DREHY]

We fought with him

[TEFT]

Me? I died for him

[DALINAR]

Me? I trusted him

[SYL & SHALLAN & TARAH & LYN]

Me? I loved him

[MOASH]

And me? I'm the damn fool that lost him

[COMPANY]

And with what little strength I haven’t spent

I’ll keep them safe!

[MOASH]

What's your name, man?

[KALADIN]

Kaladin, Knight Radiant!

We hope you enjoyed it.

I honestly really enjoyed working on this with you!! It was strange seeing how many parallels there are between Hamilton and Stormlight!

Yeah. The song is harder than it seems, but in the end all the lyrics fit perfectly. Thank you for lending your talent with actually converting ideas to verses that work.

Evie and I thought about that, but we know that would take time, and there are problems timeline wise because there are events from all over the series.

Both have the same living energy about them despite in contrast to what one would expect both being in the literal or technological "past". By Presenting their characters in modern style rather than an archaic or classical format it gives a sense of things happening in the present allowing the audience to relate to the character in an easier and more immediatly than in other fantasy novels, like say, "The Hobbit".

That's a great analysis there. Very interesting point

This is wonderful! I really like the addition of who says each line, there are some great choices there that add a lot to it. I'm glad you decided to finish this, I got really busy with work and classes, and haven't had any time to even think about it for a while, haha. Nice work!

Thanks. And yeah, I know classes take up a lot of time.

Really? I don't have a reddit account, so I'd definitely appreciate if you did it for us.

I'm half confused by what they meant by that

We have a couple of people who have volunteered, though still not enough.
