"Not my usual line of work, but I've done it before.  Where's the target?"  Right now, she'll consider pay to be getting out of this place.

"No one in particular. We need a scryer, or someone else that can magically spy around the world to look for what we need."

"A scryer.  Haven't been around here very long, I'm gonna need a description.  What kinda person am I looking for?  How rare are scryers?"  If she bothers to go back to Earth, she's going to hunt down Rapier for sending her here.

Concerto hissed. "You know, I'm seriously considering making it only my secret."

Cilliss smirked at that. Is he forgetting how I de-invested him? She was listening to the conversation instead of adding to it, as it was often useful for people to forget you were there.

"We don't know. You'll probably have t have to do some spying and some research. I'm unsure how magical this land is."

A voice buzzed in Team Controller Pham's ear, "T-C, you're in the clear. Proceed to recon position, main objective is confirming the targets' location."

Pham lifted a hand to his earpiece, "this is ATG 'Hodag' 4, orders acknowledged. Proceeding towards the objective." Pham gestured to the ATG operatives around him who were nearly indistinguishable from one another due to their extensive load-out of tactical gear. As a unit, they slowly and carefully made their way towards the area that the targets supposedly were located at, some sort of cave. The group moved in a cohesive manner, methodically checking their blindspots with seamless efficiency. As they approached the location that had been identified in the briefing, Pham signaled for the group to halt, before silently ordering two operatives to take point as they entered the mouth of the cave. The entrance to the cave was 3 yards tall, and 2 yards wide. Pham made a gesture, and the two men at point activated their flashlights to shine down into the cave, revealing that it went down at a gentle angle, and the dimensions remained the same as far as the lights went. Pham held up his hands, and signaled for the point men to return to their position. Just as the group was gathered again in a position where they could monitor the entrance to the cave while behind ideal cover, Pham spoke into his com once more.

"Hodag 4 to ATG Control, we are at the entrance to the targets' location. No visual confirmation of their whereabouts yet."

Pham's com buzzed in his ear, "Hodag 4, this is Control, message received. Mission unchanged, proceed with caution. Hodag's 3, and 6 are in position to provide immediate support if needed. You are clear to advance."

Pham nodded, "affirmative Control, proceeding towards the target. Hodag 4 over and out."

Pham made a gesture, and ATG Hodag moved out, with multiple ATG teams in reserve to serve as support if needed. Pham could feel the tension among his operatives, even though not a word was spoken. Everyone knew what happened when recon missions went south, it was the price of going first. However, Hodag 4's collective sense of discipline overcame any fears they might have had, as they moved deeper into the cave to locate their targets.

Concerto has really good hearing. Do you mind if he hears?

One of the ATG members raised their hand, and made a quick gesture that the entire team seemed to understand instantly. The squad adjusted their formation to allow for more firepower to be up front before wordlessly continuing down the cave, flashlights darting across the area to catch any movement that might reveal a creature's location.

Jaxothxe summons about a dozen zombies out of their cave and positions them to the sides of the entrance, in case of attack.

"Sir, we've got movement!"

Pham, adjusted his aim to get the subjects into view, turning to see shambling corpses. "Hodak 4, back off!"

The fireteam moved back in unison, trying to keep the zombies in view while being out of range for physical contact.

I believe it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume the zombies attack.

Kaesiel perked up. What were those mental signatures appearing on the outside of her vision? She stood, readying herself.

Yeah.

The zombies rush forward, ignoring any gunfire tearing through them until they physically cannot move anymore from damage.

Pham shouted as the ATG team opened fire on the approaching zombies. "We've been engaged! Multiple hostiles, corpse-like!"

With a gesture of his hand, the group immediately moved back while keeping constant fire upon the undead that was rushing for them, aiming for their joints specifically. Everything went well, until one of men's guns stopped firing with a clicking sound. Pham shouted at the man to reload his weapon, but as he spared a glance towards the man, he saw that the gunman was trembling as he tried to pull the trigger, over and over again. Pham opened his mouth to shout at another member of the fireteam to help the fool. But before he could utter a word, one of the zombies slammed into his man, knocking him down to the ground. Pham only offered a short curse before shouting at the rest of his men, "get him up and pull back, move!"

As the ATG team moved to change their formation, the corpses got past their field of bullets, and Pham's men dropped one after another. Pham tried to keep up the suppressing fire, but it didn't take a brilliant tactician to realize that there was no escaping being overrun as a unit. Regardless, he tried to help one of his men get clear as he shouted into his transmitter. "Get us reinforcements! We need back-up now, control!"

A buzz came over his transmitter, barely audible over the gunfire that reverberated throughout the cave. "Request acknowledged Hodak 4, withdraw immediately."

Pham cursed as he tried desperately to throw one of the corpses off of one of his men, O'Neal. "Get up and out Hodak 4, NOW! Move, move, move!"

Pham had lost track of over half of the team, and the nearly everyone else was being taken down by the zombies. He pulled as many as he could up and away from the carnage, but he could only get so many both while maintaining constant fire on any of the approaching zombies and getting to them before they were killed horribly. The three remaining members of Hodak 4 backed out of the cave as quickly as they could without risking themselves more than necessary.

A bit janky for an "action scene," but I don't feel like trying to do anything better with school breathing down my neck.
