“No Ganache. We can prank Sage, but I think she’s sleeping.”

@Random Bystander

Ladashwy woke up. She sighed, and then got up and grabbed a notebook. She started writing stuff down.

Apparently, Ladashwy sleeps like Buddy the Elf now...

Oh well.

Eryn leaned back in the pew, and tapped the metalmind. Immediately, she was somewhere else.

Meens looked about nervously. The alley was dark; anyone could be hiding here. Well, someone was hiding here. The man had wanted money. He was willing to exchange, money for secrets. Not all of them of course, but a taste. A taste, for funds and after that, he would give you secrets, he would tell you what he gleaned from his experiments.

"Hello there," a voice sprung from somewhere in the alley. Meens turned in an instant. The man walked forward, revealing shaggy red hair and a disheveled outfit. "You're... not what I was expecting." The man, who he not realized was somewhere in his middle years, likely not far from Meens himself, replied easily, "What were you expecting? A mirror image of yourself? A man living the good life? Why would I ask for funds then?" Meens opened his mouth to answer when the man said, "Don't answer those questions, they were rhetorical." Meens nodded, "Ok..." How had he known he was about to answer? Who was this man? Whoever he was, Meens wanted nothing to do with him, but his secrets however, those he wanted. So, he would deal with this man, for now.

The first memory ends.

About 50 years before AoL. Currently not much. We’re trying to get the plot started again.

Eryn quickly wrote down her impressions while the memory was fresh, making sure to include a full description of the red haired man. He looked a bit like the assassin who had tried to kill Sage earlier.

She finished quickly, and immediately tapped the second memory.

Marie landed with a light tap of steel immediately in front of the church doors. For a moment she stared at them, telling herself firmly that it was no different from her previous arrangement, except for the bonus of Harmony not messing around in her head...but - ugh, rust her to hell if it didn't feel different. Intentionally not bucking against the control, purposely giving up chances to shed blood...could she even call herself a Steel Inquisitor if she did that? Going along with what they wanted, instead of what sh - what - He - what she wanted to do?

She growled quietly, shaking herself. Maybe she wouldn't open the doors. Or maybe she would, and would slaughter the humans therein before they could react. And then maybe never talk to another person again? whispered a thought deep in the back of her mind. Not even kandra? Maybe not even Harmony himself. Silence all around you and your body never yours, how does that sound?

And, breathed something even deeper, take their freedom away from them, too?

A hiss escaped her lips, contorted with anger. It wasn't the same. Whatever afterlife there was, they could do as they liked there. Taking one choice away from them wasn't even comparable. ...still, she thought about it. Her options weren't good ones, but they were there: kill herself (as always), drop a bit of metal and get out, wreak as much havoc as possible. Or go along with a plan that could've been right out of the broadsheets for how improbable it felt.

Her fists clenched, and she realized with a prick of surprise that she was still holding the little bauble the girl had dropped in her hood. Marie held it up and looked at it, not that that did much, and rubbed the pads of her fingers over it. Foil, maybe? That would match the thin skin of metal around it. She scratched some off and sniffed, then frowned. Reminded her of the Southerner. Like all those sweets she carried around...was it one? She tore away more of the foil, then tentatively licked the cone, a shape that consistently reminded her of a spike.

Oh.

Marie made a noise that she would have denied making til the end of her days. Oh, Lord Ruler, it was chocolate and it was indescribable. She tried to go slow, but ended up eating it entirely too quickly. She swallowed the wrapping too; she'd burn it or heal with gold if it was toxic and really she didn't much care, might not have cared even if she hadn't had those options, because it tasted faintly the same.

She pressed the heel of her palm against her forehead and exhaled heavily. There wasn't enough emotion in it to make it a sigh; just a swift breath out. She stood there, spikes angled at the ground, then stepped up to the church, choice made.

She pushed open the doors.

Eryn raised a hand in greeting before returning to her perusal of the coppermind.

Marie looked down her nose at Eryn, then scanned the room and scowled. "Oh, great eye of Harmony," she yelled at the kandra. "Where'd the Compounder go? The duralumin one." @Blessing of Potency

Val looks up from what she was doing, "Oh hello Marie! I'm afraid I'm not sure where anyone is at the moment." She holds up the journal in her hands, "I've been a bit distracted for the past little bit. I can help you look though, if you want."

Ok then.

A flash of letters sent, messages exchanged, and secrets revealed. Nothing important, just tidbits to lure him in. Then a full-blown memory.

Meens walked into the mansion, it seemed far to fancy for a man who was supposedly down on funds. Was there a chance that he was selling to someone else? Who would do that, though? Rikchester wouldn't, he was coward, interacting with the darkness and never shining light on it, but never fully entering it either. Veirscar wouldn't, he was the type of man who liked all his facts on the table: secrets weren't his forte. Ali would, but only under certain circumstances, she was an odd one. Too unpredictable, he would have to have her watched and hope it didn't turn out like last time. The Greyman would without a doubt, but doing anything to even begin to try to stop him was hopeless. Meens turned to open the door when he felt a sting in his neck the memory fades to a level of incoherence before resuming. It remains unclear until the end, but a face is clear, as well as a sense of first anger, then fear, then compliance.

The memory ended.

Eryn transferred the memory to her Coppermind to share with the Sovereign before he left. Later she would transcribe what there was of the letters. Meens recalled better his feelings than the specific contents and the man had not been skilled enough to store the associated knowledge.

Are there any more memories?
