Ooh, I've been waiting for the UK release of that series! I loved the two OVA's they released, so I'm somewhat hyped for the series proper :P

It's really good, in my opinion better than the first OVA, maybe not better than the second, at least for now, but the second was really good, I cried at the end.

Well, that's encouraging! I hope they still use the same art style for the series that they did in the films; those looked gorgeous, but I also imagine that trying to replicate that level of attention and detail across a 13/26 episode long series might be... expensive.

As far as I know is going to be 25 episodes long, so the quality is a bit lower, but it remains the same art style, which is part of what convinced me to see the series.

Just finished Assassination Classroom....i just....

The feels, my body cannot take the feels

So... it's good? I've been debating whether to add it to the list

Right now... well, I saw Ghost in the Shell (2017) a few weeks ago. And it... wasn't very good?
So I decided to start watching Stand Alone Complex instead, and it's been significantly better

Just finished re-watching One Punch Man. Really can't wait for the second season, the show is just SO good.

How's the second season of Attack on Titan? Anyone watching it? I'm really not sure if I'm even going to watch it when the whole season is out, but I know that I can't take weekly episodes of AoT. I tried that with season one, and it's just painful. The show becomes less coherent and far more boring to me when there's only about 18 minutes of actual episode, and the middle of the season really dragged. Obviously, that's all my own experience, and I assume if I rewatched it on Netflix with the better translation it would be better.

@Left I just finished the second season of Attack on Titan a few days ago, and it's really good.  Actually, I thought it was significantly better than the first season in a number of ways:

It has a much more consistent pacing: the first couple episodes are a bit slower (at least, retroactively), but once it gets going it stays going, more or less.  And that's both in terms of the number of action scenes, but more importantly, the plot itself rolls forward quite a bit in these 13 episodes, a lot quicker than I was expecting it to, there were a couple reveals that I either suspected or was spoiled on that I expected the show to keep in its hat much longer than it did.  And in general, it felt like this season had more of an emphasis on plot, world-building, and character development, compared to the first season.

And speaking of character development, the second season does a lot better with its secondary characters.  Attack on Titan has a reasonably wide cast of secondary characters (I mean, they've got to have someone to kill off), but I didn't feel that Attack on Titan did a great job developing them.  I remember Jean getting a bit of development, but otherwise anyone who wasn't one of the "holy trinity" fell by the wayside.  The second season does a lot more with it's secondary characters, to the point that the main three barely show up in the first several episodes.  Which is great, as it widens the scope of the story, and because a lot of the side-characters are pretty interesting in their own right.

Plus, frankly, having less of the "holy trinity" of main characters is rather a benefit in its own right, IMO.  Particularly, I feel like Eren works best in small doses.  Though, I have decided that he's a bit more interesting of a character than I would have given him credit for originally.  While S1 Eren just felt like a stereotypical shonen protagonist who Never Gives Up™, after S2, my perception of him is that he's actually something of a subversion of the standard trope.  Tenacity (i.e. never giving up) is often a defining trait (actually, it's often the defining trait) of shonen protagonists, and it's almost always viewed as a positive trait.  (This is a large part of what makes Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion a subversion: as he's a shonen protagonist who utterly lacks tenacity)  But Eren is so tenacious it's actually a character flaw, and it's a lot more obviously presented as such in S2, as both other characters, and even Eren himself acknowledges that fact at one point or another.

And I find that that shift in my perspective has helped me quite a bit with dealing with Eren: there's a big difference, to me at least, between a character who is just annoying, and a character who is annoying for a particular storytelling purpose.  Granted, that's all very subjective and personal, maybe other people didn't have as much of an issue with Eren in Season 1, or maybe they don't find Season 2 Eren any better, but it was for me, at least.

And everything else that was great in Season 1 is still good in Season 2: the art and animation is still great, the soundtrack is still excellent, and the OP is as hype as ever.  (Though, I guess it's got my least favorite ED so far: it's visually interesting, but just weird to listen to)

Anyway, that's probably more thoughts on Attack on Titan than were strictly necessary.  TL;DR it's good.  If you liked the first season, you'll almost certainly like the second season, and if you were iffy on the first season, the second season might surprise you.  (If you hated the first season, obviously I'd still give the second season a pass, though)

---

Otherwise, I'm still slowly working through Konosuba - still funny, still not entirely my sort of humor, but I've actually enjoyed watching the main character's progression; he's sort of doing the "find ways to do useful things with useless powers" bit, which I enjoy.  I'm even more slowly working through March Comes in Like a Lion which is good but kinda heavy so not something I want to binge, exactly.

And even slower than that, I've picked up Scrapped Princess, though I'm only a handful of episodes in.  It's an old show, but I've heard vague descriptions of the magic system and it sounds rather Sandersonesque.

I watched Haikyuu (all 3 seasons) this week. It was an amazing anime.Definitely recommended. Now, I'm just waiting for the fourth season.

Meanwhile, funimation released the dubbed version of Hyouka. I have seen first 11 episodes. In my opinion, the dubbed version is comparable to the sub one. Hyouka is my favourite anime, and with dubbed version, it is like a dream come true. I am just waiting for the last bunch of episodes (after the Kanya Festival arc).

1. Naruto, both series

2. Seven Deadly Sins

3. Fairy Tail

4. Yu Yu Hakisho

5. Induyasha

I haven't watched Fairy Tail in such a long time, but whenever I hear the first theme song, it always makes me want to watch it again. I stopped watching it because I started to read the manga, but I never actually finished it... I should probably do that...

MEMEME! Recently been obsessed with One Punch. I haven't drawn anything for a decade but have started practicing so I can do my first fan art, or something along those lines. I've rewatched it about 4 times in a short time span- mostly for 'the' Saitama expression, I think. The same one throughout. Lol. I'm super hyped for the second season!

I've watched AoT too. AoT is weird, in my opinion. It has a few great moments/revelations but once you get used to it the rest is kind of slow and meandering. I kind of get that the immediate threat is the Titans they meet, but I feel it kind of goes survive, survive, plot teaser, survive, survive. Or something like that. I still enjoy it, but I'm not eagerly awaiting next episodes like with some other anime I've watched in the past.

I began My hero academia,at first I was hesitant about it, but now I love it, there are plenty of characters I like and the plot is not bad.

It's one of the few I'm following right now. The writer said he was inspired by Naruto and I can kind of see it in the show, but I don't dislike it. It's typical shonen but I do love the characters also. My favorite is probably Bakugo and his raging expression.

It is not that good. So-so. And at some point unnecessary gory. I'll give it 7/10.

Ah that's a shame, i may just swerve that then. Although tbf I've got so many series that I'm trying to juggle right now! Do any of you guys watch Shokugeki no soma? It's my ultimate guilty pleasure, the foodie in me just can't resist! :P It's had a really strong opening episode for S3 imo, i'm quite relieved because I felt that the quality dropped in S2.

I saw a few episodes. It was nice. Honestly, it seemed like borderline pornography to me. The jokes were not so subtle. Still, in spite of all the fan-service, I'd give it a 7.5 to 8 out of 10.

I've been re-watching episodes of Mushishi. It is the second anime that I can watch again and again (the first one being Hyouka). It should have a light novel.

My experience with anime has not been the greatest in the world. I have seen Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and really really enjoyed it. One Punch Man is funny and has amazing action but that's mostly because of Saitama (sorry if I spelled his name wrong). Unfortunately I can't seem to get into other anime. I don't have access to much anime so I tried Studio Gibli films; My Neighbor Torto, Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away. I came out of each of these films saying, and I know that I will probably be hung out in a highstorm for this, 'eh, it was okay'. I really did want to like these films but I couldn't connect with the characters and the stories didn't seem to flow very well. The animation was very good though. So, did I miss something about these films or should just except that this is not a medium that I can enjoy?

I've also been watching Studio Ghibli movies for the first time (they've been showing them in movie theaters this summer and fall), and also have had pretty much the same reaction: they're fun movies, but nothing particularly life-changing.  (They're a lot like Pixar movies, to me, in that way: cute but mostly forgettable.)  Anime is a pretty diverse medium, I definitely wouldn't write off the whole medium just on your failure to enjoy one particular flavor of it.

---

If you're looking for recommendations, the safest recommendation is probably My Hero Academia, which is the current mega popular show.  And, deservedly so, it's really good.  (For once, it's a popular show that didn't spark a massive critical backlash from the more veteran anime watchers, like previous popular shows have: e.g. Tokyo Ghoul, SAO, or Attack on Titan)

My traditional recommendation is Trigun, which is an old classic and is one of my all-time favorites.  A bit like FMA, it's an action show that's got some comedy but is also pretty serious (increasingly so, over time).

Otherwise, I've linked this flowchart before:

Spoiler

And there's also a longer version here (too large to include in the file).  The longer version has a lot more recommendations, but has a lot more obscure stuff that I don't know that I'd recommend to a newcomer.

As for where to watch stuff, I think both Crunchyroll and Funimation have a fair bit of their stuff available for free.  (For example, Funimation's official YouTube channel has Trigun... the full series in Japanese, but only the first four episodes of the English dub... which is a shame because the dub is phenomenal)

Thank you. Funny enough, I just got done watch a YouTube video about how a lot of anime fandoms can have some really bad people in it and I was thinking: "Oh boy. Lets hope that the 17th shard filters out any who could be like that". And then I get a reply that is completely supportive and positive! Woo-hoo! In all honesty though my sister is the one more into anime. I really only enjoy anime if it has a good story behind it, not just because it is anime. Thank you for the recommendations and maybe I'll be able to find some of these and watch them.
