danex
I have some wonderful advice.....no, no don’t thank me, It’s for the greater good. Tip: See if you can get any sponsors, Product Placement will help to remind your audience that they are only reading a book! You wouldn’t want them to get sucked-in to the story, be sure to maintain a purely superficial relationship with the audience. Tip 2: If your book is ever made into a movie, make sure that nobody who is working on it has read the book. Fans will surely want a new take on the story! Be sure to stray from the original books as much as possible, surprise them, subvert ALL their expectations. When describing the basics to the director and writers, leave out as many details as possible, let them just run with it! Tip 3: If you have one successful book series, you’ll never need to write another one again! Just keep repackaging the old basic format, and all the fans will devour it! Quote The last 2 are jabs at Riordan if I didn’t make it clear enough. Last one works for Mull and whoever wrote those Warrior cat books too.

The Sea of Monsters movie was released on Riordan's birthday, and the author claims that he had never had a worse birthday present. And I wouldn't say that he was repacking the formula... okay, actually, he totally was, but each series has been unique enough that it works. (Riordan's one of my favorite authors)

Frustration
You know of the two threads I made yesterday this was not the one I expected to get the most attention. Anyway Lesson 2 Tropes There are only two options in tropes either one must fulfill all tropes exactly as dictated or one must subvert all tropes with no regards to progressing the plot. The second option is usually preferred Should the Author just do what they feel works? Would some tropes being fulfilled as expected bring more surprise and weight to others changing, would not having the tropes at all be a new and interesting angle for the author to explore? Of course not, that would be different, and might actually catch the reader off guard, or make the story unique. Uniqueness is bad, the audience only reads one type of story and will never tire of it and desire something new. Nor should the author ever be given control of their work to do as they please with, don't make me laugh. *roll credits*

Like, in the beginning, it was pretty tame and funny with few extremes. Now everything has to be funny in some modern way, and it's really tiring, considering mythology main appeal it the unreal feeling of something in a forgotten and old world, and you are making it almost like a bad drama.
