Posted September 25, 2020 Im wondering if anyone knows if Brandon calls out specific gem cut styles when describing gems for Sphere and fabrials. It seems likely specific cuts are better then others rather than it being an arbitrary detail. Coppermind only says that cut gems hold more stormlight somehow. A 2 carat sapphire (assuming a standard well proportioned round cut) is going to be about 8 millimeters in diameter. A 1 ct sapphire is going to be around 5 mm ish. A 0.1 carat sapphire would be really tiny. Like, about 1 mm in diameter ish? Depends heavily on how shallow the cut is. It just seems way too tiny (and imagine the poor high-precision lapidarists working on making pennies - diamonds require specialized cutting equipment because they're WAY harder than anything else) Peter Ahlstrom Those sizes are pretty much right. General Reddit 2018 (June 29, 2018) This is the only thing I've found about cuts, and it's pretty much just "yeah it's being worked on." My personal imagining has always had chips being thin cuts (kind of like the cut of the middle row all the way to the right), marks as either briolettes or navettes, and broams as one of those three leftmost ones on the middle row. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Posted September 25, 2020 I suspect that the King's Drop (Honor's Drop? Or another perfect gem?) is a pear cut. Broams and smaller in my headcannon are either oval or emerald cut, enclosed in a glass sphere. 0 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
