When somebody is compounding, They Allomanticly Burn their metal mind right? How does that work? Doesn't the metal have to be in your stomach to burn it?

If your metalmind is small enough, you can swallow it. If it's not, you can grind it up and swallow that.

Yeah. He also probably used metalminds small enough to swallow on purpose. Like rings or something.

Huh, well thanks for your help! :)

Another question, Could you fill a metal mind while its in your stomach?

Actually, Miles was cleverer than that.

He "spiked" himself with normal gold, so that the goldminds would be unable to be Pushed/Pulled, even when empty. Like what the Lord Ruler did with his Atiumminds.
And because the gold spikes are "inside" him, he can burn it to Compound. Allomancy isn't limited to the stomach.

Metal Minds don't have to be jewelry. Miles would have probably made beads he can swallow, as he knew he would be using it for compounding, and this is assuming he fills it up before swallowing. He could probably just swallow some dust, fill it up and burn it, and store the health in his spikes.

Um, no. He can't burn his own spikes. Otherwise, he would start going through spikes and needing replacements. The spikes are just metalminds he stores his health in, and because they're inside him, he won't be vulnerable to pushes or pulls. He burned gold specifically made for compounding (By which I mean gold that can be swallowed and automatically sound, both in composition and size) and then stored all that health in the &^%$ton of spikes that he pierced himself with. Also, what do you mean Allomancy isn't limited in the stomach? How else will they burn it?

Yeah, he could. I was just thinking based on the traditional thing.

Metals just have to be inside of them. Being in the stomach specifically doesn't matter.

The Coppermind begs to differ. "... which must be ingested and "burned" to activate."

Also, give me an example of someone burning a metal without ingesting or breathing something in.

Does a metal need to be swallowed to be burned? Or can it be injected or snorted?

Brandon Sanderson

It could be either of those two things. Yes. Basically, metal into the body in any way is going to work, generally. There's nothing magical about the stomach, even though it works the best when we talk about it. It's just more intermixing the nature of the metal with your soul in the cosmere, your Spiritual entity, is what gives them that ability.

Okay, I get your point, and maybe it is possible, but Miles isn't burning his spikes. No matter how he is burning his metal, if he burns it, they will disintegrate afterward, and we don't ever see or hear him having to get replacement spikes, so my point still stands that Miles cannot be burning his spikes.

Besides, if he could burn his spikes, why didn’t he burn the ones hidden in his body  when he was being executed. Because if he could, he would compound a lot really quickly while they were waiting to shoot him. Instead, he tapped the last of his healing and survived 20-30 bullet wounds from the firing squad but then died.

He did, where do you think that healing was coming from? You can't have something like stored Health independent of a metalmind. When he was stripped of all the ones he was wearing, they missed at least one goldmind that he'd previously swallowed.

Remember, jewelry is used for metalminds because it's convenient to carry around and generally touches the skin while worn but any piece of the right metal can be used as a metalmind.

And you can indeed use a hemalurgic spike as a source of burnable metal, briefly. You can also use them as metalminds, but burning at least some spikes as an Inquisitor would hurt and trying to burn the lynchpin spike would presumably kill an Inquisitor, same as pulling it out.
