Stormlight healing shard wounds?

Hen

Question

In the Way of Kings prologue it says,

Quote

"The tempest within Szeth gave him many advantages- including the ability to quickly recover from small wounds. But it would not restore limbs killed by a shardblade." WoK pg. 30 hardcover

But in WoR, Kaladin heals his hand that Szeth cut with his Honorblade using stormlight. Could Szeth not heal himself because he only had an Honorblade, and wasn't bonded? Or could Kaldin only heal himself because he was cut by an Honorblade? Does anyone know? I'm assuming its the first because people using Honorblades need more stormlight, and Szeth just wouldn't be able to get enough stormlight required to heal that kind of wound.

Szeth's knowledge is limited to the Honorblades which have a much shallower bond than living Shardblades. The deeper bond a Radiant and their spren have makes their healing much more potent.

Quote

Brandon Sanderson

A full-blown Radiant can heal almost anything (cut from a Shardblade included) because of the way the magic works--their soul is literally bonded to Investiture, and it suffuses them in such a way that even the soul is very resilient to damage.

Honorblades are what you'd consider a "prototype" for what eventually happened with Shardblades. An Honorblade can be used by anyone, without need for oaths, which makes them very dangerous--but since the bond isn't as deep, they are far less efficient. They use more Stormlight, for example, and can't heal to the extent that a Radiant can.

So the difference is not in the device that did the damage, but in the method using to heal. Over the course of the first two book, the reader should be able to subtly pick out differences from what Szeth says is possible (in more than just healing) and what Kaladin experiences.

Szeth actually freaks out because Kaladin healed a shardblade wound, which the knights could do, but which the honorblades would not allow, except with the surge or progression applied oneself, which seems to be more potent even than regular stormlight healing, whether used by radiants or granted with an honorblade.

I think you could say that the body of a Radiant is continously updated to match the Spiritual Ideal Self, which is why it will heal up the weirdest and oldest of wounds as long as the Radiant him/herself thinks they shouldn't be wounded that way.

Ie. Lopen getting his arm back but Kaladin keeping his scar.

Actually, from what we've seen, Radiant Stormlight healing seems to do more than Regrowth. I don't think Lopen's arm could have been healed with Regrowth but it was able to be done with infused Stormlight.
