I think it was smart to separate the reporter and the love interest into 2 people, it makes the cast bigger and each of those characters less cluttered. villain songs are sometimes the best, if you want your villain to be relatable. Yellow man is supposed to be relatable, he represents everyone’s inner greed and fear of death but exaggerated. Pulitzer is supposed to represent The Man. The Higher Class. Davey's sister hardly has any screen time. Making the reporter and main girl was a power move that showed how much not just the newsies but the entire generation were challenging social norms at the time. ...
