The howling built to a crescendo, a whirlwind of sound and motion that threatened to break the ground itself. A bright reddish pink flash exploded outwards in a blinding spray of light. The ground gave one last violent heave as an unseen power rent it in two. And then... everything was still. On the ground where the light had come from laid a young woman, unconscious.
