Long Game 63: The Set

Honestly, we just need any lynch C1. Can you really point to anything more suspicious than the ETS statement? yes i know you just pointed to me but that doesn't count it wasnt an option for me. Spiral gnash your soul!

But yes, lynching a new player is a tad aggressive. Sorry about that, Kidpen. Let the spiral devour him!

XD HAHA, clearly you are the eliminator! The gods of Chance never lie :P

Also, yes! I have two reasons not to vote for me. 1. I am pretty good at getting information for the village. 2. I say in my introduction, I am definitely nether a creep nor EBI. :D

I will throw a vote at Kynedath, because in the set you are guilty until proven innocent. Do you have any proof?

. . . What am I proving? I've been fairly active, I'm pretty sure I have one of the highest content counts on this thread. And also I'm keeping the morale of the Set up with my awesome meme. I smile whenever I look at it. What else can I do to prove myself at this point?

Oh, also by your logic everybody in this game is guilty right now because nobody can prove they are Set and not EBI. Including you.

Alright, hello, everyone.

Looking through, I want to get a better read on Experience before I voted on them either way - I don't think the mixing up of the teams is probably slightly more likely to be a villager mistake, but it's too early for me to say that with confidence.

Abstrusity is being quite aggressive with their votes, but they got called out on it and continued with it, which is a gutsy move if they are an Infiltrator, but again, it's Day 1, so a little early for me to say that with any confidence.

Venture has put two joke-votes down so far - first on DeTess, then on Alv for "being too nice" - that could be a way of avoiding suspicion and flying under the radar.

So, a no-vote? Um...that gives me a 6 percent chance of death. I don’t like that. Rather have someone else who’s guilty with a 100 percent chance of death. So... Alvron One post, and they’re being nice, which means they’re not a killer, so that makes them not a Set. Which, makes them an EBI and someone to be killed.

6%? bah not worth it.  20% - 50% chance of death is the sweet spot.  Under, it's not thrilling enough.  Over, it's almost certain that you're the one to die. But 20-50% chance.  Now there's where the fun lies.

1 post?  It's two posts before this one.  And I'm always nice.  It's easier to slip the knife between the ribs if you're nice.

I would also point out that not all members of the Set are killers.  Some are administrators while others do manual labour.  Professor Irich for instance.

My point though is that you shouldn't start with me because I don't want to die.

That is a solid point... Kynedath

I do still plan to vote for someone this cycle. Mostly because if I don't then i get lynched. :P

I don't know who yet, though.

Not necessarily.  At moment there's five active votes, each on one person so you only have a 20% chance of lynching.  Right in the sweet spot.

Votes:
Bard (0): Shanerockes
Elkanah (1): God King, Elandera
Elandera (0): Xino
Kynedath (0): Coda, Elkanah
Zillah (0): Experience
Alvron (1): Venture
Experience (0): Abstrusity
Abstrusity (1): Kidpen
Kidpen (1): Abstrusity
Venture (1) : Bard

Know what? I’m pretty good with that? Except for Bard’s vote so let’s address that.

The Tess vote was a joke vote, I admit. However I’m making a stab vote at Alvron here, not a joke. I just chose him for death, and he has later shown his approval of my actions.

Let's change those numbers and make them a little less. I am going to put a vote onto Experience because a lack of vote doesn't help anything and I know this from prior experience and that's why I am having a vote first cycle. Plus, I feel better if it's left to chance then to have one target.

Following the discovery of an EBI agent among their ranks, the Set subtly entered a state of internal chaos. Accusations of treason flew between the members, although nobody could come to any sort of agreement. Additionally, the nature of the Set’s members made it dangerous to confront another member too directly. One of the first proposed traitors was Zillah, but that was quickly dropped when he discretely approached his accuser.
At the end of the day, nothing had been decided, although there was a vague distrust of Who Doesn’t Know Their Character Yet But We Shall See, Ned, Pete Zahutt, Mundric Pentasum, Kidpen, Drahs Xperienc, and Esualpla Dowenger that went somewhat beyond the wariness that had now permeated the entire Set. In the moment, there was too much tension and too many people around to take direct action, so nothing apparent was done.

Later that day, Drahs sat down to enjoy a cup of cocoa. He'd heard of the drink from a family member, but wanted to see if it lived up to their talk. Drahs took a sip, and decided that it was too bitter for his tastes, although the flavor wasn't half bad. Perhaps with some sugar... Before he could think too much further, Drahs felt a weakness creeping out from his stomach and into his limbs. He instinctively reached for the healing stored in his metalminds, and then realized with a sinking feeling that he’d used up his stores to recover from a cold the past week. He’d been putting off filling them back up… Drahs fell off his seat and did not get back up.

News of Drahs’s death spread quickly among the Set, and while initial rumors fingered a Bureau assassin, it was eventually disovered that someone had acted upon the suspicions voiced earlier in the day. A thorough search of Drah’s belongings revealed that he had no ties to the EBI.

Some members of the internal Set bureaucracy were making attempts to mask the chaos, but with mixed effect. A 10th anniversary party for the organization was arranged by one enterprising group, but since the Set had been founded six months and eight years ago, this only added to the confusion.  A more cohesive attempt to respond to the situation unfolded when some EBI agents began an investigation into Cool-Headed Hats. The business, known for aluminum lined headgear, was owned by a member of the Set, but coincidentally had no connection to any disreputable dealings. After the owner explained his situation to the rest of his Sequence, the frustration against the EBI took on the form of a systematic legal assault on the officers responsible for the disruption. While the suit didn’t get anyone closer to discovering the EBI infiltrators, it did ease the tension among the Set members as they considered which of their friends might be a traitor.

EXPERIENCE_THE_SHARD was a gold ferring ranked Suit in the Legal Subset working for the Set.
Gold Ferring: You will survive one attack (but not the EBI arrest or the lynch)

ETS, I do hope you come back for another game. We really would like to have you spend more time in a game than half a cycle.

The role information is interesting, though. It means there's likely another attack/kill floating around aside from the EBI. Hopefully it's not in EBI control, but just in case it is, anyone with a potential protection role should try to be consistent with submitting actions.

We now know of the existence of the Legal and Communications subset. Loss of a Suit may have consequences, though.

Sorry, I don't really have time for much more thought. Today has been busy, long, and difficult.

Technically we only have full confirmation of the legal subset. The communication subset may just have been for the initial writeup.

The only other note I have at the moment is that there was no obvious vote manipulation this cycle. Not to say it doesn’t exist, just that it doesn’t appear to have been used at all.

Victoria Stadtt pondered the state of the Set as she traveled home from the festivities organised by her fellows. The viciousness of Drah’s execution bothered her. She’d expected them to do better, to not let those fools in the EBI stir up the organization this much.

She’d have to do something about that.

Her deliberations were interrupted as her carriage came to a halt in front of her house, a stately mansion in one of Elendel’s older neighbourhoods. She descended from the carriage into the mansion’s courtyard as one of her bodyguards approached to escort her inside. He was a relatively new addition to her security team, but he came recommended by several of her higher-ranked subordinates.

“Ah, Malone. Have any messages arrived while I was away?” She asked.

“As a matter of fact, several messages have arrived. I believe this one to be the most pressing though.” The bodyguard took a neatly folded piece of paper from the pocket in his jacket, as well as a leather wallet of some sort.
“And what might that be?” Victoria asked, as she motioned for the guard to lead her inside.

The guard didn’t budge. “It’s your arrest warrant.” He flipped open the leather wallet, revealing a shiny badge identifying the holder as a member of the Elendel Bureau of Investigation. “Lady Victoria Stadtt, you’re hereby under arrest for kidnapping, extortion, money laundering, conspiracy to overthrow the Elendel government and, well, a lot more, but if I were to read the entire thing, we’d be here all night.” The man smiled apologetically as agents of the regular Elendel constabulary started appearing from within her house and from hidden positions in the courtyard.

The Set’s Sequence didn’t bother with a response. She knew she’d be freed quickly, just as soon as her loyal Arrays and Suits could clean the Set of the EBI's infestation.

***

The commissioner of the EBI frowned as she reread the last two paragraphs of the report. She’d been kept apprised of the arrests, of course, but she’d been told that the first arrest had only been of a moderately high-ranking member of the Set, not of the organization’s leader herself. That oversight worried her. Could her own organization have been infiltrated in some manner, resulting in crucial information being denied to her? She resolved to find out the source of this miscommunication and correct it, just as soon as she was finished with the report.

***

The Sequence’s arrest sent a shock through the rest of the organization. Few knew what her role had truly been, but the lack of a guiding hand was immediately felt. The various Subsets scrambled to compensate and work on a strategy to free her.

One member of the Set saw the writing on the wall, however. They knew that, with the Sequence’s arrest, it’d be only a matter of time before the rest of the organization would fall.

And so they did the only rational thing, and paid a clandestine visit to the headquarters of the EBI. Promises and information were exchanged, and soon enough they returned to their post within the Set, with knowledge of a meeting spot, and the reassuring weight of a badge in their pocket.

***********************

Kynedath was arrested. They were a gold ferring and the Set's Sequence

Sequence: You’re the Set’s leadership. You are immune to the lynch, though your rank will be revealed if you are lynched.
You will have an anonymous doc to communicate with each individual Suit.
If you are arrested, it’d severely hurt the set’s Morale, and might even cause members to defect.

Gm note: because this probably needs to be stated very clearly: one member of the Set has defected. If any future defections happen, they will be announced (not who defected, just that it happened, of course).

Well, that's not good. I wonder if this game is structured like a conversion game, with more and more defections happening as the game goes on, or if this is a one-off. My guess is the first (and I intend to support a lynch today, regardless)

I'm really not a fan of Shaney's last minute vote on Experience, but I'm working under 2 impressions: For Experience to have been bumped off deliberately, there'd also need to be vote manipulation going on, and my first impression of this game is that the vast majority of roles (a few like the Sequence excepted) are controlled by an entire Set rather than an individual player. To that end, deliberately trying to get Experience to die would take a combination of Shane's vote and convincing a Set to put a vote manipulation on Experience as well, which is highly unlikely, especially since it would both reveal Shane and the Infiltrator member in the Set.

Also, Kynedath was our largest talker last round, and it already wasn't a highly active game (possibly everyone's too busy chatting in their docs, though the docs I'm in aren't that busy either) - to that end, until I figure out who I'm suspicious of, I'm going to place a pokevote on Elandera.

*waves* Hi!

I agree with your assessment of Shane. I don't like the vote, and I really don't like that it actually led to Experience's death, but I also don't see it being a deliberate elim move. The write-up doesn't indicate any vote manipulation. @DeTess, @Araris Valerian, would there be a change in names/numbers of a vote count in the case of manipulation? It is more likely it was a poor, last-minute decision.

Conversions are probably likely to continue, considering the wording of "any future conversions." One was triggered by loss of the Sequence, so I wonder if losing the leaders of the subsets will trigger more.

I'll need to review more of what's happening in my subset and in the first cycle before I make a serious vote. For now, I'll join Young Bard in a poke vote and hopefully get some more talk going in the thread. @Elkanah, you're usually more chatty. Elkanah. How's it going?
