Alcatraz versus Adonalsium

9 posts in this topic

WARNING: Extreme spoilers for Alcatraz Versus the Shattered Lens.

This is just baseless speculation, since Alcatraz is not a Cosmere story, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Someone threw a rock and broke my family's window a few days ago, and I got to thinking. a shard (non-cosmere) is a piece of shattered glass. Adonalsium shattered, right? Well, I had just finished Alcatraz four, and I thought that maybe Alcatraz caused the shattering. He somehow broke the Smedry Talents at the end there. What if it was Adonalsium who bestowed the talents through glass (or possibly WAS glass), similarly to how Preservation and Ruin gave Feruchemy, Hemalurgy, and Allomancy? What if Alcatraz accidentally shattered the possibly glass Adonalsium into shards and therefore broke the talents and started the cosmere?

Let the feedback begin.  :)

you know, as soon as i read the thread title i also came to the conclusion that alcatraz shattered adonalsium. and then the shards were given to his father, who lost them, scattering them across the planets. they wrote it down how to fix the mess, but they handed th4e task to their cousing who says nonsense (was it sing?), so no one could read it.

would be fine, except that (as you aknowledge) alcatraz is not cosmere.

That explains how Alcatraz will escape the altar - Original Hoid will burst in and save him.

Re: Alcatraz. Ha!

Honestly, I dont find that answer to be an affirmation, or denial of the question. In fact, I find it to be a clever way to divert attention. If it were true and Brandon said RAFO, speculation and theories would bloom and possibly diminish the big reveal. By laughing at it he diffuses the situation.

Furthermore, I think the phrasing of the question would need to be well thought out. First, how you define the cosmere could provide an honest out even if you hit the nail on the head. For instance, if the Cosmere doesn't come into existence until something is done in the Alcatraz universe, then if the question was something about some character being part of the cosmere or causing the Cosmere, the question could be answered with a no.

I am not satisfied that this is sufficiently debunked. Other possibilities exist as well, what if it is not a prequel but happens after the cosmere is put back together.

I just think there are alot of ways the 2 universes could be connected, and he could avoid alerting the reading public until he wanted to.

As much as it would be funny and kind of cool, I would be pretty mad at Brandon if he did that. First Alcatraz is an Earth book not a Cosmere one. They just shouldn't overlap, although the paralels can be very cool. Second It would just feel incredibly cheap to me. Like Brandon decided to be lazy and not write a good explanation of what really hapened.

I am pretty sure that there is another Wob, but I am terrible at hunting those down. Someone should summon Kurk.

BRANDON SANDERSON

So far, most of my deviation novels (Alcatraz, Steelheart, The Rithmatist) have not been part of the shared universe. Part of taking a 'breather' is letting my mind run free without continuity restrictions.
