Questions, so many questions, about the Cognitive Realm

Questions about the Cognitive Realm…

Ok, I maybe taking this to a slightly fanatical level, but dammit I have soul wrenching questions here!  So pick a few and discuss. Please. Or dredge up a few WoB's for my education! Thank you.

  • Do ALL humans look like flames in the CR?

  • What do Parshendi look like?

  • What do Radiants look like?

      • Do they still look like flames?

      • Do they look an amalgam of their spren and a flame?

      • What do Elsecallers look like?

      • If an Elsecaller soulcasts an object (cognitively enters the CR), what does she look like while doing so? Does she look like an insubstantial version of her physical self? If so did her 'flame' change to look like her?  Does she look like herself but outlined in flames? Does she look like a blend of herself and her spen? Does both herself and her spren appear in the CR?

      • If an Elsecaller transports to the CR physically, does her flame suddenly transform into her? Or is it surrounded by stormlight and then she appears where her flame was?

  • When you encounter a location in the CR where a village or city of sentients are in the PR are all of the flames about the same level above the beads in the CR?

    • When humans are in a multilevel structure in the PR, are their flames floating higher above the beads than when they're  at ground level in the PR?

    • If the flames  ARE NOT floating at different levels then what happens if one human is directly above another in the PR?  Do the flames superimpose over one another in the CR?

  • Are the Heralds visible in the cognitive realm?

    • What do they look like?

    • Can a herald/radiants cognitive appearance be attacked in the CR?

    • If they are FULLY in the physical realm, why aren’t they metal, like the spren?

  • Do the spren need to eat? (Their version of it anyway) If so, what do the spren eat?

    • Are they simply ‘refreshed’ everytime there is a highstorm?

    • Or do they consume something from human emotions?

    • Or do the physical spren use the highstorm and the emotion spren use sentients?

  • How do higher spren use stormlight as an exchange medium?  Yes they use perfect gems for storage, but what about additional stormlight?

    • With the closure of the oathgates and people forgetting where cultivation's perpendicularity is located, getting new amounts of stormlight in the CR is difficult at best.  And there was no evidence of gems recharging in the CR.

    • Or is it as if they're using the gold standard and have been doing so with a static supply of stormlight for a very long time?  And if that's the case, then how do you account for spren such as cultivation spren using up the stormlight supply to manifest objects in the CR? Wouldn't they be having a shortage after such a long time?

  • How do lower spren navigate the sea of beads?  When an anticipation spren wants to get near a nervous human that is in the center the Rosharan supercontinent in the PR,  how does the spren move through the ocean of beads to get near him? What keeps them from sinking to the bottom, just as physical humans do? True they don't need to breath, but they do need some way of maneuvering presumably.

You might have looked at this, maybe not, so here: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Cognitive_Realm

also: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Shadesmar

and: https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=cognitive+realm

Have fun!

Also, just to complicate matters, same Questions, but for SR

Yup, I've read all of these. (Like I said, fanatic.  LOL )  There are about 4 or 5 that skirt my questions.   Actually maybe  I should edit my post to state that most of my questions are from the viewpoint of someone standing in the CR and observing.

But, ideally I'd love to see what all of the ardents on here think/speculate about some of these questions.  Or for that matter do they have questions.

Yes.

What do Radiants look like?

We actually know this one.  Jasnah did not notice anything special about Shallan in her deleated scene.

Shallan noticed Jasnah in WoKs.  Apparently she looks like herself.

Ivory thinks so.

Jasnah mentions that you can hurt yourself while soulcasting so yes.

No.  They seem to feed off of highstorms somehow though.

Syl is kind of vague on this but yes.

You can transfer stormlight into perfect gemstones.  They then give you money that can be used in CR cities.  The stormlight itself is a gold standard.  It is not always moved physically.

Many spren can swim or fly through the CR.

The Horneaters still know their pools and that sometimes strangers go in and out. Stormlight will get through in gems they charge and can trade with off-worlders. It is unclear to which extent they themselves know how to get to Shadesmar. It may be something for first sons only or totally unknown.  Yet people were until recently passing through. They will carry charged speheres back out.

No, not all humans look like flames in the CR, they only do so in the Rosharan Cognitive. They do however always glow due to their inherent internal Investiture.

We haven't seen Parshendi in the Cognitive yet, but I'm going to say yes, they too look like flames in the Shadesmar

Radiants seem to look the same as humans. We've never seen Transportation from a 3rd person PoV

On Roshar, buildings don't manifest aside from as beads,

Spoiler

That's not the case on Scadrial

I'm going to say, the flames probably appear a little bit above one another if the people they represent are on different floors.

The Heralds should normally be visible in the Cognitive (unless they're hiding somehow, Hoid apparently can). I don't think the flames can be attacked but the partial manifestation during Soulcasting can

The spren are refreshed by Stormlight from what we've seen but they also seem to depend on emotion, they're consuming something given their attraction to emotions and partial manifestation

Stormlight stored in perfect gems seem to be the gold standard

We haven't seen all the spren or seen them all navigate the sea of beads, so we don't know

Technically we do not know that. We have seen Rosharans in Shadesmar and (spoiler for Secret History)

Spoiler

Scadrians in Scadrial's CR (Mistmar?)

We haven't seen a world hopper's representation so far.

Worldhoppers are usually Investiture hackers, so I am not going to count them. We've never had the opportunity to witness how Investiture would twist a person's Cognitive representation (we do know certain Investitures do that)

Spoiler

Hemalurgic constructs, such as Koloss

Beyond that, there's been no difference between a normal person and Invested person, or a person from a different Shardworld (again unless they were using certain hacks, which we've only heard that some of them have access to). All seen examples of how a person looks like from the Cognitive Realm have adhered to how people manifest in the subastral of that particular Shardworld (to note, we've only seen two Cognitive Realms so far)

All normal people whose representation we have seen were on their respective home worlds. I see no way to tell whether location or origin determine the representation and if so, where. How do people in interstellar space look like? And we do know that people have Connection to their origin.

Oh, and something else that I thought was cool, Shadesmar has water vapor! Is that because humans live there or is it because the spren think that it should be there?

Why is there air? Likely because humans consider air ubiquitous and self-evident. Then that air should have the expected composition, including water content.

I'm more interested on how the water is formed there and how it relates to Investiture.

He entered one of the pools.  We have absolutely no indication the first sons of Horneaters know more than anything else.
