Surgebound Rainspren
just a quick question, has anybody else noticed that on the diagram of a Axehound in way of kings part 2 has the same mandible like protrusions on the side of its mouth as the Chasmfiend diagram in words of radiance. im certain that this was intentional but what evolutional use is it. its likely that Axehounds and Chasmfiends are somehow related but what use do these mandibles have. it could be used to move food into its mouth easily but when your food source tends to crowd around you this is irrelevant. Kobold King
Just a quick note, the word "cryptozoology" refers to the study of, or search for, animal species that have not been conclusively been confirmed to exist by mainstream scientists. I think what you're talking about is comparative anatomy or perhaps evolutionary biology.
Surgebound Rainspren
sorry, I always thought it meant the study of the unnatural or unproven.
RadiantNights
I think it's just how animals on Roshar are, not to be overly simplistic. The animals all seem to be crustaceans of some sort (except horses which some believe to come from off world anyways) and most crustaceans have mandibles to help them eat. It's kinda just like how insects and lobster have antennae. 2 totally different animals yet they have delevoped this same sensory appendage
