AonEne
Hey folks! @Honorless has had a fantastic RP idea, wherein our characters are all new in T’Telir and have been conned or forced to give up their Breaths. As Drabs, they then try to get a Breath or more back. This allows us to RP weaker characters, and in a setting that is used less than others. Quote boxes for OOC from now on, be fair and don’t godmod, you guys all know the rules I’m sure. Active Characters: Spoiler Invo, Kazil Spoiler Name: Kazil Age/gender: Male, 14 Appearance: Red hair, green eyes, wiry. Skills: Natural perfect pitch. Family: Mother and father in an outside village, older sister too busy enjoying the pleasures of flesh that T'Telir offers to do her job of watching over Kazil. Place of Origin: Outer village of T'Telir Backstory: When Kazil was born able to distinguish properly tuned instruments and perfect notes against their lesser counterparts, his parents saw an oppourtunity to help their son rise above his humble birth. They began to teach him theater and music, then sent him on to T'Telir at 14 to begin making a name for himself, sister in tow as a minder. Once there, he was told if he could give his Breath to an agent, they'd be able to find him a wonderful place as a muscician. Sadly, the "agent" ran off with his Breath, and now he is a Drab, seeking to get his Breath back, and any other he can acquire. Personality: Determined but graceful. Acts more like some noble's son than a peasant. Religion: No time for religion when you have to practice constantly, but he will profess to be any religion to get customers. Sorana, Ophelia Spoiler Name: Ophelia Age: 16 (maybe, she isn't sure about that) Investiture: none Skills: brilliant hairdresser, can do make up and nails as well, typical servant, etiquette Physique: brown curly hair, tall and lanky Weaknesses: unused to life outside of a protected environment (=her masters house), naive Character: friendly, trusts easily, intelligent, likes soft and fluffy things, accidently lectures about hair care, like to take care of her appearance Family: Mother, Father Homeworld: Nalthis Backstory: Ophelia grew up a servant's daughter in T'Telir. She learned her trade with another merchant and returned a masterful hairdresser at fifteen. She loved her work and her mistress until a year later the whole merchants family went bankrupt. She sold her breath, to offer a live for her parents, but instead she got betrayed and never saw anything in return. The family who took the house over, took a part of the servants, but Ophelia lost her work same as others. She is grateful that at least her parents still work there, and tries to find a new way to go. Itiah, Aoryen Spoiler Name: Aoryen Fial Age/gender: 23, Male Appearance: Strong build from years out at sea. Average height. Brown, unkempt hair that reaches to his ears. Run-of-the-mill brown eyes, has stubble and calloused hands from labour. Strengths: Skilled with a cutlass, skilled with boats and sailing, and skilled with gambling. That’s about it. Weakness: Not very knowledgeable otherwise. Had a very limited worldview and doesn’t know much about the world that he hasn’t directly experienced. Gambling addict. Speaks in a thick accent with lots of slang that makes him hard to understand sometimes Family: A younger and an older brother, both more responsible than him. Place of Origin: Hudres How he lost his breath: Gambled it away while at sea. He thinks the person who took it was cheating and wants revenge. Personality: Outgoing, and pretty intense all things considered. Cheerful but loses his temper quickly if someone betrays the “Sailor’s Code,” his own set of morals that he holds high. Religion: A religion considered pagan by others. He worships the sea. Salad, Ana Spoiler Name: Ana Age/gender: Female, 13 Appearance: Short, with pale skin from staying indoors a lot. She has short brown hair. Skills: Nimble and dexterous, good with her hands. Family: She lives with her father, her mother is deceased. She has an uncle living in another city. Place of Origin: T'Telir Backstory: Ana was an only child raised in a wealthy family in T'Telir. When she was 10, her parents were taken by a sudden sickness, and over the next two years it left her mother dead and her father very sickly. They spent all of their money on treatment, and when they ran out sold their possessions and moved to a poorer area. Her mother's condition worsened, and she eventually died. Desperate, Ana pleaded at the Court of Gods for one of the Returned to save her father, to no avail. With no other options, she sold her breath in return for some mystery medicine, and gave it to her father. He eventually got better, but was still weak. Her uncle is a merchant in another city, and he occasionally sends them funds, but it is barely enough to buy food. Ana is still trying to find work to support herself and her father. She and her father are resented by those around them, however, due to their previous wealth. Personality: Kind and charitable, but naive. Overly trusting and sheltered. Was a bit spoiled, but has hardened a bit after losing her wealth. She can also be stubborn. Religion: Devout follower of Iridescent Tones Inactive Characters: Spoiler Ene, Clare Spoiler Name: Clare Ets Age/gender: 10, female Appearance: Idrian-looking ethnicity, short brown hair, deep brown eyes Skills: Loud voice, was trained as a singer from childhood Family: Idrian mother, Hallendren father, older brother (Roary) Place of Origin: T’Telir Backstory: Her mother left Idris looking for adventure and met her father. They settled down in T’Telir and had Roary and Clare. When Clare was eight and Roary twelve, her father cheated on her mother and was found out, then divorced her. Clare didn’t really understand what had happened, but she knew her mother was sad. She heard her mother talking to a friend once, ranting about “her”, and believed her mother hated her daughter, even though she’d been talking about her ex-husband’s lover. Clare ran away from home and was coaxed into giving up her Breath in exchange for food by a man. The man would have taken more than her Breath, but she ran off and is now wandering the streets of the city. Personality: Optimistic and uncomprehending, Clare is still an innocent kid. She wants her Breath back, but she wants her mom to love her even more - and is convinced that she never will. She loves singing, and is quite good at it. Religion: The Iridescent Tones, but she’s not very devout Honorless, Rayas Spoiler Name: Rayas Age/gender: Male, young Appearance: black hair, tan skin, shorter than average Skills: RAFO Family: RAFO Place of Origin: unspecified riverside port-town somewhere in Hallandren Backstory: Gave his Breath away to one of his gods, now doubtful of these gods' divinity. Family: Ancestry, No known family. Place of Origin: T’Telir Backstory: Raised on the streets. Learned thief skills at a young age. Just a few months ago he got caught trying to get a big score of an off duty priest. Luckily he has perfect pitch. This convinced the priests of the court that his breath was special. He manged to make a deal. His breath for his freedom. His breath went to one of the gods for their weakly offering and he was turned back onto the streets as a drab. Personality: Pessimistic, but determined and a little foolhardy. He just can't believe that he got caught. He wants his breath back. Without it he does not feel like himself and he has to suffer through disease and depression. Religion: That of the people he is trying to scam. Place of origin: Village name Terhys Backstory: came looking for her elder brother to T’telir but has not found him. Deeply devout of hellandren gods and gave up her breath for one. Still believes strongly in them and foes not regret being a drab.. life is tough but she hopes that she through her breath will enable her gods to do something great one day. Now she is living in the slums managing by doing some spying for gangleaders... personality: clever but timid, observant and short tempered ever since lost her breath religion: very devout towards hellandren gods.. After getting there and buying a house, he found himself a little short on cash, so he reopened his doctor's business. He just arrived, so he isn't well-known yet, but he's hopeful. How he lost his breath: He gave it away to the gods. As a follower of the Iridescent Tones, he considered it an honor. Personality: Kind, easygoing except on core issues, can be patronizing at times. Has a soft spot for children. Religion: Iridescent Tones, devout Edited April 16, 2020 by AonEne made two categories
Honorless
Spoiler Name: Rayas Age/gender: Male, 14-15 Appearance: black hair, tan skin, shorter than average with a mean stringy build and an even meaner mug. He's crippled with a stump for a right leg since an accident Skills: information gathering Family: ? Place of Origin: unspecified riverside port-town somewhere in Hallandren Backstory: Gave his Breath away to one of his gods, now doubtful of these gods' divinity. Became destitute and demoralized, an unsuccessful beggar in the streets of T'Telir Personality: has a quick temperament, driven Religion: agnostic/atheistic, formerly a believer of the Iridescent Tones Quote Hey guys! Some of you might know me from the awful banes that I hand out to my... petitioners from the Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game). If not, Hello! I am @Honorless! Nice to meet you! Feel free to check out my profile. Nalthis is quite a dark place hidden behind its colorful facade. In this RP you will be starting from the bottom. You can climb up eventually, this is Nalthis after all, but it will be a long and arduous journey. Enjoy! Chapter 1 Rayas took a long, deep breath, trying to stop his trembling. Rain fell from the sky like tears as he raised his hand up to the sky listlessly. It looked so... dead, like his very skin was bleached of life. No, he told himself, it just seems that way because of the stories where giving your Breath away was to give up a part of your soul. That can't be true, I'm still alive... It had only been a week since Rayas had arrived in T'Telir, the boisterous capital of his country, Hallandren. Oh the beauty, the colours, the size, the noise, the life, the sheer grandeur of the city on the hill, as it was framed by the sun setting behind it, sinking into the sea. But then isn't our Breath supposed to be a part of our soul? He put his hand back by his side. And stared up, up, up at the sky. His eyes wandered back to the top of the buildings. The buildings that once seemed so colourful. Were they always this bland and yet so loud? They seemed ugly now, competing with one another, packed, fake. Where is the life? Where is the beauty? Where did it go? Where did it go?! Where did it go, where did it go, where did it go, where did it go?!! He took a deep shuddering breath. The rain still fell, he did not feel it. He was born with a strong, healthy breath. He was always told so, in the small riverside port-town he had grown up in. He had dreamed of this city then, with wonder in his heart. He had believed... Unbidden, his mind went back to that fateful choice. Why didn't I just walk away? He stood in front of a god. Lifeblesser, the god of healing. He stood nearly seven feet tall with sculpted muscles and a square jaw, with tousled brown hair and flowing robes. He didn't even seem to hear Rayas as he made his request. He was turned away, unheard. Why did he feel so dejected then? As though the fault lay with his own self! He remembered hearing the call... that Lifeblesser needed to be fed another Breath. He had been so excited! Foolish! Why did he want to feel acknowledged by a god when that god was so uncaring towards his followers?! Why did he believe in those lies? Why was he so naïve? Why did he go? Why did he give his Breath to that uncaring cretin pretending to be a god?! Rayas' eyes turned to the naked statue behind which he was taking shelter. Whose pretentious drapery he had stolen. Beauty, he spat. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he knew that he should probably move away from it. The people who dressed up their statues probably wouldn't like it if they found out that a beggar had pilfered its clothes. He just couldn't bring himself to care. Honorless
Quote @Sorana , yup! you can choose any background or profession you wish, as long as it doesn't grant you easy access to Breath and remember: you have lost your breath, you are a drab now. Karger
Quote I don't quite get the premise. Won't this just be about trying to earn money as a drab? Honorless
Quote @Karger, the idea is basically trying to survive in T'Telir and regaining a Breath after becoming a drab (and maybe eventually even collecting more Breath). It's about playing as powerless characters (drabs) rather than super-intelligent Awakeners discovering the perpetual motion Command leading to electricity on Nalthis. And definitely no 10th Heightening Awakener squashing antagonists like bugs either. Edited October 25, 2019 by Honorless

I only decided to make a younger character because I had issues finding a way someone could be conned out of Breath on Nalthis without being young. I really wanted the 'con' angle. Also, does Kazil's natural perfect pitch mean your devout Tone-worshipping character would think he's really important? Quote Alyssum How would someone with naturally perfect pitch be affected socially on Nalthis, even though they only have one Breath? Brandon Sanderson They would be regarded-- they would be well-regarded, let's say that. Now, you say on Nalthis, but there are a lot of cultures on Nalthis, and so they're not going to be a monolith, but a lot of cultures are going to consider this person someone who's touched by the divine, or someone who's-- it's going to be a sign, perhaps, that there's something about this person, depending on the culture. AonEne
Quote Yeah probably. There might be a slight hero-worship thing, since he's several years older than her too. My reason for wanting to write a kid was just that I hadn't done it yet I want to see how I'll do with a young child. Also, I thought it would be fun - a bunch of gloomy people who are bent on revenge or getting back their Breath, and then just Clare singing and happy and looking up to Kazil
