Illian Tear
Couldn't Kelsier be spiked with a duralumin spike, taking his connection away allowing him to leave?
+Invocation
Theoretically maybe, but who knows what that would do a Cognitive Shadow? You might take it too far and sever him entirely, forcibly shoving him into the Beyond.
Quantus
There's a new WOB that I think is relevant. This is confirmation that storing Connection to Elantris (via a medallion) would allow an elantrian to access the Dor off-world. Given that, I suspect a similar route would allow a Cognitive shadow, spren, etc, to be able to leave the planet. It's not hte same circumstance, but I think the problems rest on similar underlying principles. Quote DoritoJH So, AonDor is super versatile and powerful. Brandon Sanderson Yes, but region-locked! DoritoJH Yes, it is region locked, exactly. If a full Feruchemist using nicrosil were to create an unlocked medallion that allowed an Elantrian to store Connection to Elantris' location, would it let them use AonDor at full power as long as they were tapping that Connection? Brandon Sanderson Yes. That should work just fine. ... Just understand that the medallion's going to have to be usable by everyone in order to work. You're going to have to jump through some hoops, but I think what you want there would work. And for those of you listening, that would be the harder way to unlock AonDor. There are easier methods. It could mean elsewhere on Sel, away from Elantris, but still in contact with the Dor.

I took the bit about maintaining full power away from Elantris to be an equivalent circumstance, but it's true that it could be referring to the Homeland restriction on their magics rather than the Dor's own issue when away from Sel. My understanding of Connection is that it typically operates in the Spiritual Realm, and if that is true I think it would bypass the distance issue entirely. Quote Questioner Is there any effect on a Shardblade if the deadeye is really far away from where the Blade is? Brandon Sanderson Define really. Questioner The one that's trapped on the ship. Let's say they're taking him to the far side of Shadesmar, but the dude that owns that Blade lives in... Brandon Sanderson We will deal with that in the books. There is an effect, but that's not enough of an effect. Overlord Jebus Considering no one says that their Shardblade is acting weird in two and a half thousand years. Brandon Sanderson That happens all the time in Shadesmar. If you were able to get it off the planet, it would have an effect. Questioner If you as the owner of the Shardblade were offworld and you tried to summon it, that would be the effect? Brandon Sanderson Either way. But you can't take spren off-world. I mean, you can, but you can't really. Really all that I have in the notes for it to do right now, is to add slightly more time. So you're like, "That's weird that felt like not ten heartbeats, it felt like twelve." But it's like, you're on another planet, then it's suddenly speed of light type stuff. So suddenly it's like, "This is taking three years instead. That's a pretty big deal!" ...So I've got a few weird speed of light things mixed into the cosmere, and that's one of them. Emerald City Comic Con 2018 (March 1, 2018) I feel like this could be interpreted to mean that pulling any location-based investiture to a different location would take extra time. So maybe an Elantrian could pull the Dor across the CR to another planet's subastral, but it will take time. The Elantrian would have the connection, but since the Dor is location-based, it has to move manually.
