Lift lift

With the surge of Abrasion, would Lift be able to give lift to herself? If she spread out her arms, removed resistance from the top side, and (maybe) increasing it on the bottom?

Sure but not nearly enough to counter her weight.

As mentioned, no amount of creative Abrasion use plus Stormlight healing can make a human fly by flapping their arms or glide; they just can't produce enough lift to overcome the weight of the human body. Combining Abrasion with Gravitation could do some cool things, though given that a Windrunner could use their two Surges in combination to travel to one of Roshar's moons with enough knowledge and Stormlight you're unlikely to beat that Order in terms of versatility as it pertains to flight.

Now, combine Abrasion and Stormlight healing with Steelrunning from the Mistborn books and you've got something really insane.

Friction-less air will still provide lift, and the only thing slowing down your forward movement would be moving up. She doesn't need any propulsion during a flight like this, but she needs to start out going fast, which isn't very hard for an edgedancer. In fact, she would even need the bottom of her arms to be unSlicked; she could control the air movement by tilting her arms and hands like the flaps on a plane.

...right? If we could get somebody in this thread that knows a lot about physics of lift in a zero-viscosity fluid, that would be great.

@rjl The big question is, after accelerating continuously for several hours with no drag, how do you stop without going splat?

the answer is you do go splat in front of someone with Progression, and then regrow yourself.

I know that gravity still has an effect, but the point is that normally, if you were going fast and angled your hands to push air downwards, the drag would also slow you down, and lift is dependent on velocity. If drag can be eliminated, it wont slow you down, only the direction change will. Plus, using abrasion allows you to have a much faster speed than is normally possible.

You could start out going much faster, and not be slowed down by the air.
