Creation of Scadrial's CR

Question

When Ruin and Preservation created the planet, did they also create the cognitive realm area for Scadrial at the same time? Our did it take awhile for it to form?

It's a fun thought, an entire planet could have been hidden and unaccessible for a long time.

I would have thought that it would take a little while for it to form fully. Depends on how they did the creation, though. Theoretically I suppose that amount of Investiture coalescing could have sped the process up, especially if they chose to create humans directly during the creation of the planet as opposed to seeding the development into the planet and leaving it alone. It might also depend on if the Shards count for the development of the CR and if they carry extra weight.

Not that long.  As soon as anything with an even rudimentary intelligence was created the CR would also come to be.  The early CR was likely quite unstable as the creatures of Scadiral started learning but after a few months it would likely has some solidity to it.

As mentioned, Scadrial probably had a Cognitive presence quite quickly, either because the Shards' act of creation sped up the process or because life there created a sufficiently stable zone before too much time had passed. We're looking at maybe a decade tops but probably less than that

Now, we do know that it's possible for a planet to be 'shrouded' so that it's difficult to find even if you know it exists and are looking for it, but we have no idea what this entails. Khriss brings it up when discussing Yolen in Secret History.

I think that this WoB implies that it would take some time for it to show up as anything but empty space.

Questioner

How would the city of Boston change over time in the Cognitive Realm, because its harbors have been constantly filled in with dirt?

Brandon Sanderson

Right, right, right. It will change to match, but there will be a time lapse, right? They'll be lagging behind.

Questioner

So, you could dump it full of dirt, and then it might take like five or ten years before it actually appears as land.

Brandon Sanderson

Yeah, that's exactly about how it would go.
