Title Alteration

Could we please change ‘Son of Honor’ to ‘Child of Honor?’ A fair number of us aren't exactly ‘sons’, and it just feels odd, especially when the gender-neutral one works just as well.

Agreement is expressed for the sentiment but Son of Honor refers to the organization on Roshar which I believe does include some women who are also called Sons.

This was indeed referring to the Sons of Honor organization, not the Stormfather saying Child of Honor or Child of Tanavast.

I'm assuming much of the reasoning behind the title is in Brandon's 'Rule of Cool', for instance: Sons of Anarchy sounds much cooler than Children of Anarchy, therefore, even if you were a female member, you would still be a Son of Anarchy.

Ah. I thought it was referring to what the Stormfather called some of the Windrunners. For some reason I think of the organization as having a plural.

They are in fact referenced as 'The Sons of Honor', as an organization, but the individuals within would be a 'Son of Honor'

Have we even seen any women in the organization?

We know there have to be due to Roshar's...oddly gendered perspective on writing, but no, we haven't seen any (that we know of) yet.

So we don’t actually know how the group refers to them.

I don't think we've ever seen any of the known members referred to in that sense either. I'd say though that it would be very strange for the organization to be called the Sons of Honor if an individual isn't always a Son of Honor.

Nope. The ‘Sons of Liberty’ had Daughters, even though ‘Sons’ was in the name. They were sometimes collectively called ‘the Sons and Daughters of Liberty.’ The Sons of Honor always reminds me of them, for some reason. The Daughters were sometimes referred to as a separate organization due to their different roles; it’s quite possible that the same is true of the Sons and Daughters of Honor.

It's very possible they don't consider the women full members and thus don't have a separate title for it. We don't know one way or the other and won't until more material comes out, or someone asks Sandman. Until then, it's not really worth arguing about or changing it on here.

I stand by that being very strange, but fair enough.

Edit: This was apparently my 3200th post. Yay.
