Thought looked up, mesmerized. It reminded her of flying, of dancing in the sky. "It's beautiful. And you... you built it?"

Tom smiled. "Three thousand years is a long time. I have to occupy myself somehow."

"Yes," she muttered, her mouth going dry. "A very long time." And yet, it seemed, not long enough.

The ship was what finally convinced AJ that he was in far over his head. It was one thing to have a relatively strong power set and be controlled by a being of immense power, and it was one thing to challenge a Shard for her power. But actually winning and then realizing that the woman whose wings you just clipped has a past that she doesn't even remember and that people are chasing her? That was quite another, and it was made worse by the fact that AJ loved her. He didn't quite understand why. But... she seemed to love him where no one else did. To forgive him. That was enough to make him stay with her for centuries. Still, he felt immensely small underneath Tom's creation. And it made him understand that Thought was a player in something much, much bigger than he had even known.

A humming noise began to emanate from somewhere in the insides of the ship. Slowly at first, but gradually accelerating, the ship lifted out of the water and began drifting upwards towards the behemoth above.

------

Rorim slithered with increasing agitation through the narrow hallways, eyes flicking back and forth across the hallways searching unsuccessfully for one face among the many groaning handerfle bodies.

"Tom," he hissed with a tinge of fear, "where'sss Arsssek?"

------

Tom's grin faded as he felt the handerfle speak. That was a good question. Quickly, he cast his mind out- only to find nothing. Not among the dead, thankfully- but not among the living, either.

Where was he?

BTW, I'm working on fitting up @Butt Ad Venture to take on AJ.

Thought leaned close to AJ, trying to relieve her stress and breathe. Everything was changing so quickly and things she didn't even remember were beginning to haunt her. What else was out there? Who else wanted to hurt her?

Maybe. I feel like SepLaar got left in the dust and isn't involved in the plot at all.

What if that changed?

With barely a sound, Samika appeared on the small boat, flanked by six handerfle guards.

She turned to SepLar, eyes narrowed, Key raised. "Who are you? And why were you following that pair?"

SepLar yawned and lazily turned around. "Wow. Would you look at that. It's been quite a day, you know." she stared the woman directly in the eyes and turned her skin transparent, revealing her metal skull and the armorlings lodged within her flesh. "As for why I'm following them, the female is a Sliver. Seems mighty intresting, wouldn't you say? Nice key, by the way."

Samika lowered the Key, eyes still narrowed. "You're a kandra, aren't you? I've heard of your kind." She relaxed her face slightly, but her posture remained tense. "What were you planning on doing with them when you caught them?"

On a hunch, Tom indexed the other handerfles that had been on the boat during Samika's rampage. Most of them were quickly found, checked, and identified- but six of them (including Arsek) appeared to have inexplicably disappeared.

And, coincidentally, they had also been the six handerfles closest to where Samika had stood.

A knot of anxiety began to form in Tom's chest...

"Stick close to her, because she seems to be the center of something much, much larger than anything I've been a part of before. Fate-of-planets type things." SepLar smiled, "And it would seem I've been sucked into said important events, no?"

Samika cocked her head slightly, then smiled, posture relaxing slightly. "Is that an offer of assistance?"

As the boat approached the giant ship above, a fleet of smaller escort ships flew out to meet them.

A light lit up on one of the room's many dashboards, and a pleasant voice began to speak. "Welcome home, Cloud Nine. How may we assist you?"

"Uh. Since I have no idea what your end goal is, no, I was not. I'm not one to blindly offer my assitance. So, what is your end goal, anyway?"

"Several things," said Samika smoothly, as one of her handerfles moved to steer the boat away from a hidden rock. "Retrieving a stolen artifact, for one."

Distracted from his thoughts, Tom looked up. "Hum? Oh, yes. Docking bay one, please."

Noooooooo!

There was silence aboard the ship. Thought wanted to say something, to ask about what was happening or inquire as to what her personality had been three thousand years ago. But something held her back. The last two days had been life changing and a little more than traumatic so she was reasonably shaken. Part of it was that she didn't know how one was even supposed to react to something like this. She leaned into AJ. He made her feel safe. Odd, maybe, considering that he was the one who had cursed her to be in this filthy state called mortality, but there was something about him. Something familiar and comfortable. Something that she, perhaps despite herself, loved.

Samika smiled. “A good choice.”

The boat flew smoothly into the docking bay, something engaging in the side to lock it into the larger ship. The screens on the ceiling in wall went dark, and the background hum of the engines quieted to silence.

"Well," said Tom simply. "We're here."

He moved to the door and unlocked it, stepping out onto what had been the deck of the ship.

"Your rooms are this way," he called back over his shoulder. "We'll stop there first."

Anyone up for a timeskip after this is resolved?

Samika chuckled, pulling a vial out of her coat pocket. "Not yet." She uncorked the vial and downed the shifting rainbow-colored serum inside. "First, we go home."

Thought followed Tom, staying close to AJ and picking at her nails nervously.

Tom strode briskly down the hallway, shoes clicking on the gleaming white floor. A few turns later, they arrived at two rather ordinary looking doors.
