That is my personal chief gripe with them. If they were being used as an organizational tool, to compress sections of a long post in a function similar to a table of contents or index, that would be one thing. That would be a productive use of them. That, however, is not what I've observed the primary usage of them to be. That does seem to be one of their bigger uses, but I've seen them used often for their original purpose as well.
