beantheboy12
So edgedancers are always described as the slippery ones. It doesn't seem like the dustbringers would have removal of friction as one of their uses of abrasion. Otherwise, they might use it as often as Lift does. But what if it worked in reverse? What if dustbringers increased friction instead? If that were the case, then what would normally feel like a smooth surface would feel like sandpaper, therefore, causing damage. Which is what dustbringers like.
Weltall
Abrasion can be used to increase friction as well as decrease it, Lift just doesn't know how to do it yet..

And possibly the Dustbringers are like Skybreakers, they learn to use their second surge later.
CrazyRioter
In one of Dalinar's visions there's a Dustbringer that is clearly using Abrasion to reduce drag while moving through some water, so they can remove friction. Generally Surges work very similarly between orders (with the Bondsmiths being an exception).
Scion of the Mists
I think that the Dustbringers could use Abrasion to remove friction to great effect. Just zipping around the enemy like Lift does, except instead of stealing their food, they burn them to a crisp.
Weltall
Dustbringers setting things on fire is probably a combination of their two Surges, with Abrasion being used to increase friction (and thus generate heat) and Division breaking things apart But using it the way Lift currently does to easily glide around a battlefield is likely as well, just like Lift could learn to increase friction to climb impossible surfaces without using Wyndle as a makeshift rope. Generally Surges work very similarly between orders (with the Bondsmiths being an exception). CrazyRioter has the truth of it....we've pretty much seen a Dustbringer reducing friction for easier movement. Certain surges/powers are just more associated with specific Orders for........reasons. For example, Windrunners and Skybreakers can both fly through Gravitation. However, Windrunners are the much more closely associated with flight and the sky because the have Adhesion to better control their flight patterns and seem to attract windspren where they go. Elsecallers and Willshapers can both travel to Shadesmar using Transportation. However, Elsecallers are more closely associated to that realm and ability because Soulcasting leads to connection to the Shadesmar beads and whatnot. Edgedancers are the all loving hippie healer Order so they would naturally be more associated with grace and speed but I'm sure Dustbringers did the whole ice skating thing.....it's just more noteworthy that they were fairly wild and blew stuff up. Generally increased friction gives you a better grip. But that helps only if your problem is grip. However, if you are on a wall you will also act as a wedge and their will be a force component away from the wall. If you rip your handhold out of the wall, you will also fall down.
