Alternative Awakening Fuel

6 posts in this topic

I have a theory.

Colour is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum. (Wikipedia link here.)

So could other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum be used as fuel?

Good question. Sounds like something that would be a great question to ask Brandon. Knowing him, we’ll probably get a RAFO :P

You'd probably need to shenanigan some stuff, but other than that, I don't think there's a reason infrared and ultraviolet couldn't be used. Stuff like gamma and x-rays I don't think could be used, if only because of health risks.

Color is not part of the electromagnetic spectrum.  It's pretty clear from the book that the "color" that Awakening drains is a property of the material used as fuel, not the light itself.  If you could just use visible light as fuel, then you could use the same object over and over again and never run out of fuel.  You probably wouldn't have to even have an object to use as fuel, as light is all around us (unless it's dark, see below link).  It's also stated that Black is the most effective color for Awakening, but there's no such thing as black light.

UV and Infrared are already drained along with visible color.

Does Awakening drain colors outside the visible spectrum?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Yes it does. You're talking about ultraviolet and infrared? Yeah.

Good idea, but like said, don't think so.
