Quick Fix Game 1: Jeskeri Mysteries

Tempus

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

We're going to be trying a new, quicker form of elimination game to supplement the main games. These Quick Fix games will run at different times from when the main games begin, and will take less than a week to complete. This will be the inaugural game! So we'll be keeping it nice and simple.

Quick Fix games will be shorter in duration - you'll need to be able to post once in any 24 hour period to participate. Day and Night will run simultaneously in that period. There will be fewer special roles, and they will be more straightforward to make certain everyone gets a good grasp of the game.

In a Quick Fix, Role playing is less important - you won't be making complex roles like for the main games. A core premise will be provided, and you will be given a character framework to work with. You may or may not choose to expand upon this character by filling in your own details as you go! Feel free to lie about them as well, of course.

A full list of the basic ruleset for the Quick Fix games can be found here.

Premise:

For our first game, the premise will take place on Sel. The players are all gathered at a Duladel trading outpost - it is the end of winter, and late, inclement weather has snowed in the passes. Holing up in the small outpost, you prepare to last out the short winter. One morning, however, you awaken to the sound of horses braying. Confusion reigns briefly, until gathered outside, you witness a grisly scene - the outpost's freeholder has been nailed to the stable wall, his entrails gone, his stomach bloated with red dyed straw. The traces for the horses have been cut, and the stable is empty. The tracks lead off down the snow covered road, but no sign is visible.

With no guards and no guarantee to make it to the next village safely in such unexpected conditions, you have no choice but to try to discover the identity of the killer - before they kill again!

Day Rollover Time: 4pm GMT, Noon EST, 9am PST

Roles:

All Players: Must submit one vote via PM to the game master (Tempus), once every during every 24 hour period. These votes will be made public at the end of the period, and the most voted for player will be sent to die in the snow.

Follower of the Mysteries: A follower of the Jeskeri Mysteries must send one vote via PM to the game master (Tempus) per 24 hour period in addition to their normal vote. The most voted for player will be sacrificed for their own mysterious purpose.

Priest of Jesker: The Priest of Jesker is a learned man, and can identify the sacrifice of the Jeskeri Mysteries. A Priest will know the correct number of Jeskeri Mystery followers at game start, and may investigate one other player per day (by contacting the game master) to learn if they are a follower of the Mysteries or not.

We're looking for a minimum of 8 players, and an ideal of 16. If enough players are gathered by the Rollover time this next Monday, the game will begin. If not, the game will begin on the following Friday. Sign up by leaving a comment confirming your attendance below!

I have been waiting to try and sign-up for this game because I'm alive in the other one and have participated in all of the other games as well.
So I definitely want to make sure anybody who hasn't had the chance to play a game or isn't actually in one right now has the chance to sign-up first.

So, I want to say count me in, but only if there's not enough other people who want to join in before the deadline.
Oh, and good thing I came up with my Aon-based name just in case we did a Sel world elimination. Meet Gamene.

I guess I'll go as Greggin in this game.

It's been so long since I read Elantris, I hope I can do a little RP to keep it fun. I may not even bother, though, since this will go by so quickly.

So if we get at least two more players in today, we'll start in about 27 hours? Hope we get some more.

I thought long and hard about this and finally concluded that I was going to end up reading the game anyway and it wouldn't be much more time to actually play. And seriously, could I let a game go by that I wasn't involved in?

So here is Caan, signing up ;)

Warkel; Aged apothecary.

Looks like he was born around 80 winters ago, patchy beard, ragged brown robes; walks with a limp and walking stick.  Has many pouches containing herbs for the many ailments people suffer. Including life :)

Players who are still alive can join this game - there are no particular restrictions. The signup period is intentionally short so that we prioritize people who check the forums frequently, given that the game requires a minimum of one daily check in.

As far as RP goes, I want the quick game to approach more the feel of playing the game in person. There won't be any particular need for long exposition, or self-narrating. If you want to add to your character, you can add whatever details you like of course. I'm hoping it should give off the feel of a lot of different people, all stuck together in a bit of an emergency situation, more worried about survival and taking action than sharing their life stories. You as players can decide how much role playing you feel is appropriate to the situation.

Basically, the main thread is 'dense and rich', and the quick fix is aiming to be 'clean and light', and a bit more towards emergent storytelling than explicit. That said, you can expect that there will be a short daily narration from the game master, to keep the game rooted in the premise.

There are nine signs ups right now. We're hoping to get a few more people, start time is in about 50 hours from this post.

I have been looking forward to using Mai as a name ever since I was Tineye. I love how the first three letters of my username make the Aon for Honor.

Nice.

Heh, this is pretty cool, the two tineyes from last game and your using the Aon for Honor and my character name contains Aan (Truth/fact).

Not that I was entirely truthful during that game, comes with being spiked.

Eh... why not. I'm in too. It's not like the current game's going to last much longer anyway.

To make a name with the other half of my username this time, I'll be Faidh. (There are two possible Aons in there, but neither of them have definitions unfortunately.)

A compressed game like this should be interesting.

The winter wind howls outside as the weather worsens. You struggle to make it indoors, shutting the door behind you against the drifts and wind. A warm fire crackles in the corner hearth of the large lodge, where twelve other people have gathered around on chairs and stool. The building seems empty and dark, designed to accomodate the dozens of traders who weren't so foolish as to attempt one last run before the passes snowed in. You make your way over to the small group, a bastion of light and warmth after your cold walk - they are much like yourself. Trapped here until the weather clears.

Deciding to hole up in the outpost, you prepare to last out the winter storm. Sun melt is not uncommon this time of year, and you feel it won't be more than a few weeks before the passes would be fair enough to attempt a crossing again. The post's freeholder escorts you to one of the many rooms in the lodge, and you throw down your gear and fall into a soft bed for what feels like the first time in weeks.

The next morning, however, you awaken to the sound of horses braying.

Let's try first person RP.

When I got up this morning, this had not been what I was expecting. First a Mysterious Storm, than A Murder? "Well, then. This storm makes it hard to move around, so we can assume the Killer is here. Not a Lot of us got to meet last night, being tired from the Storm's Light. but lets all take the Time to Meet each other, and see if we can figure out who the Killer is." As People started to Mill around, I wondered whether I could talk to any of them alone. I was pretty certain that this was a Ritual Jesker Mystery Murder, But I didn't want to Scare the general Populace.

Are PM's allowed? And if we vote by PM, do we have to Vote in Thread as well?

PMs are allowed. You vote by PM - you can tell people what you voted in this thread, but only the votes submitted via PM will count. They don't have to be the same...

In general, you are required to do the actions specified in 'Your Duties'. Anything else goes, as long as it meets the common sense rule of being respectful.
