I'd like to formally make a small edit to Deteca's backstory. The new version:

Quote

Backstory: Deteca was born and raised in the Alleyverse, mostly the Alleycity, where her parents live. Dieka was born seven years after her, but died in an accident when she was six. Deteca almost killed herself out of guilt, believing her sister's death was due to her, but her parents stopped her first. Dieka's death also caused Deteca to turn to the Dark Alley later in life in her grief. She quickly realized it wasn't for her when Mace asked her to reconsider and join TUBA; she did so, becoming a loyal member. During all the interesting plot stuff (you know what I mean), Deteca kept in touch with TUBA with a spanreed while either an undercover spy or delivering cookies to faraway Shardworlds. When Storm stepped down from TUBA's leadership, Deteca took up the position. She has since returned to the Alleycity.

If that could be replaced on her profile, I'd be extremely grateful. Thank you!

Second try with a new character. More insanity, but less depression. Yay!

Spoiler

Name: Vivica

Physical Characteristics: Female, 28, long light brown hair, blue eyes, pleasant-looking face, slender and short. Her left ear is missing and there is a long thin burn scar running down the left side of her neck

Investiture: Hereditary Bronze feruchemy, hemalurgic spike granting Bronze allomancy (effectively Bronze compounder)

Skills: Intelligent, advanced note-taking, shorthand, never needs to sleep, science, baking (intermediate, specialty is gingersnaps)

Equipment: Bronze metalminds and bronze vials, one unsealed small coppermind ring

Weakness: Incapable of sleep, mental stability is fractured, will occasionally hallucinate or break down, terrified of large spaces and so rarely leaves the Alleys, hearing in left ear is at half-capacity, she can hear loud sounds and notice when someone is speaking but needs to turn to hear them clearly in her right ear. Afraid of fire, but can handle typical laboratory-type fire. Single flames don’t trigger her panic, but a fireplace would, and a bonfire would definitely do it. Zero combat experience or will to fight.

Family: Quite dead

Home Planet: Alleyplanet

Backstory: Vivica was born in the Alleycity and her family died during the Seven Days War. Her house caught fire and killed her family while she was asleep in bed, she almost died too but was woken when the roof fell in on her, burning her ear and the left side of her neck. She lost the ear and part of her hearing, but fled the house in time to survive. Vivica spent the next few years in and out of orphanages and homes, always hating having to sleep and being plagued by terrible dreams. One day, she had a panic attack in a large open square and fled into an Alley. She found the winding, enclosed space a comfort, and joined the DA after realizing they could help her avoid ever having to sleep again. Her intelligence and perception allowed her to rise to the station of a research assistant, helping observe experiments at any and all hours due to her ability to stay awake all the time. Years of compounding bronze have erased her ability to sleep, she has lost the ability to do so even if she wanted to. This endless wakefulness is slowly driving her crazy, though she generally has a good handle on it. She will regularly hallucinate, so regularly that she has made a catalog of her recurring hallucinations and their expected patterns of behavior. She keeps this catalog in an unsealed coppermind ring. Less regularly, she will break down. This is generally triggered by stress, large spaces, or large and unpredictable fire. Rarely leaves the Alleys.

Guild: DA

Personality: Vivi is quiet and perceptive with an alert awareness of her surroundings. She is introverted but genuinely enjoys the company of people she trusts. When she feels comfortable, Vivi will talk about the things that interest her. However, she is also crazy. She will often begin speaking to one of her hallucinations, which some people find off-putting. She doesn’t show much intense emotion outside of her panic episodes, though her base personality is one of quiet pleasant-ness. Vivi appears to be the kind of person you’d let watch your dog while on vacation, but this would be a mistake. She would definitely experiment on your dog, then happily chatter to you about the results.

Edit: forgot to tag a mod. At your leisure with this, no hurry :) @MacThorstenson

Maybe I need to think of another name...

Looks good, compounding works out to about 100 and the skills are 60.

The weaknesses cancel that out.

I cant say when I’ll Be Abel to add that to the list, bit its approved.

@MacThorstenson

Here's another character on my part. I've been using her as an NPC (at first nameless, later with a name) since era 2, and in some of Althea's CDS. I don't know how often/ regularly I'll play her, but she's kind of crucial to Althea and her position in the GBs is vital as well, so I figured it might be safer if she's officially an PC.

Her skills shouldn't be over 150, so I didn't bother with thinking about how much points a weakness might be worth.

A general question though: what is behind the skill assassination? Tools, weapons? What did you have in mind, when you decided on that skill?

Spoiler

Name: Zokora An’Inera

Age: 32

Investiture: Willshaper (1st ideal) (90 - 5 = 85)

Skills: Assassination (average, 40), Weapon (Meelee weapons, average) (35)

Physical: long black hair, dark eyes, brown skin, lean and muscular

Weaknesses: easily offended, curious, feels hunted by the souls of those she killed (= hallucinations)

Character: very loyal, unorganized, cold & conflicted

Family: dead

Homeworld: Alleyverse

Guild Affiliation: Ghostbloods (Rank: Althea’s assistant)

Backstory: Zokora grew up in the Alleyverse. Her parents died in the seven day war, and afterwards she ended up with the Ghostbloods. She worked as an assassin for easier targets for years, making it to an Elite, until one day she met an old man. He told her of ghosts, and that she was hunted, and while she laughed at him, the thought somehow never left her again. Sometimes she can feel the ghosts coming after her, hunting her, wanting revenge. She tried to switch to another occupation afterwards, as she figured, that if she stopped killing people the ghosts would stop. Zokora met Althea per chance in Oasis City, and somehow ended up with a new job a few months later. Most of the time she is Althea’s eyes and ears, and is everywhere, where Althea can’t be, takes over meetings, or listens to endless discussions at the government. Additionally she sorts through reports and acts as an Gatekeeper for those wanting to speak with Althea.

Looks good. they are approved, but idk when I’ll be able to add them to the list.

As to the Assassination skill I’ve always interpreted it as the ability to carry out an assassination.

Like, can they kill quickly and effectively, escape unnoticed etc.

Name: Neo (just Neo)

Physical Characteristics: 5"5 with bright (almost neon) green hair. Has dark forest green eyes and wears a tight suit along with blades on both armrests and bladed ice-skates.

Investiture: Second Edgedancer Oath (Abrasion and Progression), Bestowers blood-lens monocle. Can see investiture with his left eye due to encounter with the nightwatcher, it left him with a big weakness however.

Skills: Intelligence (Intelligent) , Hand to Hand Combat (Average), Acrobatics (Skilled)

Equipment: Very sharp Ice-Skates, Bladed Armrests (chull seen in physical characteristics), pouch with seeds and monocle, Spheres

Weakness: Notice, The above abilities might seem a little strong but this does lower it a lot. His weakness is because of the night watcher, a low pain tolerance, VERY low pain tolerance. It can be up to the point where if he's shot, whilst waiting for his stormlight healing he can be completely stunned because of the pain shock. This gives him a huge weakness to guns, and just sharp objects that can penetrate me. You could call me a glass cannon, but hes not that great at direct fighting either, he's more supportive than direct combative. Additionally, due to an encounter with the night watcher, his left eye flames blue whenever he uses investiture/his monocle which makes spying etc a lot harder.

Family: Ditched

Home Planet: Roshar

Backstory: Neo was done, no more of this. He ran out the Ice Rink and into the forest. He had his backpack with normal clothing and his pair of iceskates tied around his hip.Nobody understood what he felt, he felt as if no-one listened to him. It's always "Why cant you work for a job that pays better Chrysts rather than that stupid figure skating, you will end up homeless when you're older and will die alone". It really ticked him off. His parents never listened to anything he had to say, constantly baraded with insults and on how terrible he was. Whenever he told someone else, "Oh why do you care so much? At least you have rich parents do you not know of those people tha--" Shut up, He thought in his head. He couldn't take it anymore. He was deep into the forest now, He didn't even know where he was going. He took the metal blades of the ice-skates and held it against his neck. It was going to end here. Suddenly, he heard  a rustle in the bushes, but was too tired to care. Suddenly, a completely dark black face with black hair and black eyes popped out of the bushes. For some reason Neo got scared of this and tried to run, however the dark green and vaguely person shaped, crawling on the ground with too-long arms started moving, and fast.

Neo wakes up around 2 men. He wasn't tied up but clearly still in the forest. His head felt dizzy and he overheard, "Well, he looks quite the wealthy type and looking at his spheres I believe that seems the case, we can hold him hostage for some good loot" one guys said, "No, he seems to important, his spheres are already a big win, better kill him off now and dump him in the river so we'll be fine".

Neo was scared, he didn't want to die anymore, he had his ice-skates on for some unknown reason, one of the guys pulled out a knife and went for him. He took an immediate dive, not being very agile with the ice-skaters on the grass. After dodging it he tried punching the guy in his side, however his friend slammed him against a tree and managed to stab him in his legs. C-c-can't t-tolerate the pain . He didn't know what to do he didn't want to die. He wanted to see the world. "Say the words, Neo", a voice deep down said. He wanted to live, he muttered, "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination" Suddenly, he turned super bright, his hair radiated green and felt something in his left eye. Suddenly, the surrealism took over him and he fought with all he could. The environment became his Ice Rink, his grounds, his territory. He jumped out of the way in their moment of blindness and jumped out of the way. It felt normal, natural. One of the men sprinted towards him, looking unfazed and Neo performed a triple flip loop and slashed his chest with a perfect landing. His friend cried out in rage and stormed towards him. He did a triple lutz jump, spinning in the air elegantly before kicking the guy away.

He had a new life, a better one, one worth remembering.

Guild: Canton of Combat

Personality: Charismatic and funny. Tends to be a perfectionist to topics he cares about (Ice Skating as an example),

Appearance: (might add one at some point)

Okay so this is where putting these now.

I decided to retool Oren for era 3 rather than to make a completely new character.

Spoiler

Name: Oren

Physical Characteristics: male 16-year-old with brown hair and dark blue eyes, tall for his age.

Investiture: (mutated) Division and Illumination

The mutations are that as soon as Oren becomes filled with investiture his division activates making everything, he touches have very notable hand-shaped holes in them. Division can also be controlled more normally but only when guided by a lightweaving. Oren lightweaving can only make illusions of places unable to attach weavings to people, his spren or anything but the surrounding area.

Skills: the slightest bit of hand to hand and general sailing knowledge.

Equipment: A small knife more used for cutting ropes than anything else

Weakness: He and his only aware of the uncontrollable part of his division which do to that and past experiences, has panic attacks when ever he is filled with investiture and sees himself glowing.

Family: A “sister” Ailyarin.   (His spren)

Home Planet: The Boundless Worlds

Backstory: Oren is the only one who did or ever will, gain investiture in his home bound and being orphaned at a young age the destructive nature of that investiture naturally didn’t lead to a very easy or stable childhood, especially when everything you touch get reduced to light and ashes whenever the Alleystorm came around.

Guild: unaffiliated

Psyche: Aimless and naturally nostalgic. Has accepted that any place he tries to make a home for himself will eventually go up in flames and he will probably be at the root of it.

Personality: Generally affable and likeable, has a strange fascination with weather forecast and enjoys telling other people stories typically concocted out of things he has seen and heard from the boundless ocean. Has a hard time remembering people’s names though

Appearance: the only thing in any sort style that he wears is a plane navy blue scarf that he always wears other than that just wears whatever he thinks is the most practical for whatever it is that he is doing at the time.

Theme Song: (I don’t know I don’t really listen to music.)

Fighting Style: Generally, tries to stay out of fights but if backed into a corner and filled with investiture will try to grab the attacker’s weapons destroy them and get away

Couple of things. Total skills and power are 170 total. The weakness I would say balances that out. The only thing o would like changed is the boon and curse. That to me isnt balanced well enough the boon is too powerful for the curse.

The low pain tolerance is part of the curse by the way(i forgot to mention it in that case its my bad).

Also, if that still is not enough I am willing to add a second weakness which is "Neo can only see if somebody has investiture and from which shardic planet it is. It also becomes harder to find smaller levels or invesiture from a planet. For example, if Neo would see somebody with 3 allomantic abilities and a First Oath, he would only be able to see the allomantic abilities for example. If someone would have very little allomancy so lets say 150 breaths or less he would not be able to identify at all."

(Hi, just another character I want to have)

Name: Novus Incipit

Physical Characteristics: Wears a white uniform, shaved bald with brown with black eyebrows and eyes. About 36 years old. Also, he has a messenger bag for his book and other tiny things.

Investiture: Spiked with Feruchemical Zinc

Skills: Mastermind Intelligence, Expert Scholarship, Skilled Hand-To-Hand

Equipment: His Hands, Notebook full of the teachings of his religion.

Weakness: He bases most of his actions off of a religious notebook. The religion is extremely ancient. He is schizophrenia and often see's delusions mimicking the characters of his religious notebook which can hinder or destroy main goals.

Family: Dead

Home Planet: First of the Sun

Backstory: Novus is a character that grew up un-diagnosed and schizophrenic in his household. His family tree practiced an ancient religion which really inspired Novus. Everything was fine until the book started speaking, Until they started talking to him, telling him how to cleanse the world, make it a better place. Ever after, Novus followed their teachings by heart, took his handbook everywhere. One day however, about two hours after a family gathering and everybody had eaten, they dropped dead, every single family member except Novus who'm decided not to eat that meal thankful to his mentors (delusions) helping him. He knew after he wasn't bound by anyone that he had to make the world a better place. He left the world of First of the Sun for different planets, where he soon enough, met a friend to help him along. He eventually got his spike through trade and a sacrifice he had to make.

Guild: Canton of Combat

Personality: Very Intelligent, is often in his own bubble of thought, witty, sometimes rather mysterious. Tends to be deceitful to get his way.

Personality: Generally affable and likable, has a strange fascination with weather forecast and enjoys telling other people stories typically concocted out of things he has seen and heard from the boundless ocean. Has a hard time remembering people’s names though

Okay so this is where putting these now.

(I decided to retool Oren for era 3 rather than to make a completely new character.)

Name: Oren

Physical Characteristics: male 16-year-old with brown hair and dark blue eyes, tall for his age.

I have one main question about oren: Is he the equivalent of a knight radiant? As can make a shard blade, has oaths and can breath in stormlight for healing? Or does he just have the surges?

If it's okay, I would like to add this character to the Alleyverse as my first character. I appologize for the length.

Spoiler

Name: Alanis Sheneth (Goes by Aln)

Physical Characteristics/appearance: Aln is short, reaching only 5’1”, and has a slight build. She’s 24 years old. She has short, slightly curly brown hair, and brown eyes. She wears a long brown coat (down to her knees) with lots of pockets, as well as a simple white button-up and tan trousers.

Investiture: Knight Radiant, a Truthwatcher of the 2nd Oath. She has also visited the Nightwatcher (see weakness).

Spren: Nire- he communicates directly into Aln’s mind, and is very encouraging and inquisitive.

Skills: She’s very intelligent/borderline genius, a very skilled scholar, and an excellent storyteller. She’s passable in sketching, but hopeless at every type of music (See weakness). Aln has no training in combat, prefering to observe rather than participate.

Equipment: She carries no weapons, although she does keep a small knife in a pocket for sharpening her pencils. She carries several small worn volumes from Roshar, each discussing Investiture, Shards, philosophy, or the nature of the universe, in a satchel at her side. In her pockets she has large numbers of pencils and reed pens, as well as a Spanreed pen in a case (linked to one back on Roshar, owned by her brother). Several notebooks, filled with small, dense writing, occupy the rest of her satchel, and loose paper, coins, invested spheres, and other small objects fill her remaining pockets.

Weakness: Aln is completely deaf. However, she can still interact with others well, as her visit to the Nightwatcher granted her the boon that she can see speech. She has no way of noticing other sounds, but words appear as small black letters floating around the speaker, dissipating after a few minutes. These words have no substance, but are entirely illusionary, similar to lightweaving.  In addition to the boon, Aln was granted a curse; the better she knows someone, the fainter their speech appears, eventually disappearing entirely. She tends to get lost in thought easily, pondering scholarly concepts, as well as the occasional bit of social awkwardness and anxiety.

Family: Her brother, two years older than herself, is the only family member she’s in contact with. Her parents and younger sister survive, but she has not spoken to them since she was 15. However, she’s extremely close to her brother, Trent.

Home Planet: Roshar

Backstory: Aln was born to a small darkeyed family of the second nahn in the Thanadal Princedom. She was born deaf, and as such was very socially isolated throughout her life. Her family was kind to her, but only her brother Trent made a real effort to connect, even learning how to read and write in secret so that they could communicate. She herself studied frequently at the ardentia, spending nearly all of her time reading, writing, and studying as a child. It was expected that she would become an ardent as soon as she was old enough. However, shortly before Aln’s 15th birthday, her parents discovered Trent writing with Aln, and were furious. Despite being darkeyed, Aln’s mother believed strongly in the lighteyed ideals of feminism and masculinism, and told Trent that he was no longer welcome in their home. He was also rejected by the nearby ardentia, and was so forced to leave the town and enlist in the military to fight on the shattered plains. Aln was left nearly entirely alone, unable to communicate with anyone around her. This was when her anxiety started. It was around this time that she discovered that she was a surgebinder.

She kept it hidden for nearly a month, but her parents eventually found out. Afraid of her powers, they contacted the Vorin church, but before Aln could be investigated she ran away, travelling for weeks, alone, to find her brother. Eventually she reached the Shattered Plains, and discovered that he had managed to acquire a job as a lookout, with terrible pay but relative safety. He told her of stories he had heard of the Nightwatcher, and they set off together to find her. She only hazily remembers the encounter, but her boon and curse are described above. She still could not see her brother’s words, but they still wrote, and finally she could understand people. The two travelled around Roshar for nearly a year afterwards, working odd jobs to earn the bare minimum to survive.

When they returned to the Shattered Plains, Trent was reassigned as a common foot soldier. He was wounded on only his second plateau run, and was left barely able to walk. He was deemed unfit for duty, but secured a job as a mediocre cook for his former troop. Not too long after, Aln discovered the Alleyverse, but was hesitant to leave her brother behind and enter what was literally an entire new world. Trent urged her onward, using his savings to buy a spanreed, and she left, swearing her Second Oath in the process. She entered the Alleyverse with the mission to learn as much as she could about the true nature of the suddenly much larger universe.

Guild: Currently unaffiliated

Psyche/personality: She’s very intelligent and scholarly, loving to pondr deep and complex problems. She’s also very withdrawn and nervous around people, being hesitant to make personal connections. However, she gets very involved in scholarly debates, and has a stubborn streak that makes her unwilling to back down in the face of adversity. She has a strong moral code, and does her best to adhere to it at all times.

Theme Song: The Lord of the Rings, by The Piano Guys.

Fighting Style: She prefers not to, and will instead avoid fights. If one is unavoidable, she will use her surgebinding to distract and restrain her opponent.

Thank you.

Yes Oren would be Equivalent to a KR and I already have a name for his "order" picked out along with some oaths planed. Shardblade I'm not sure on as spren got translated weirdly in his home (bound? pocket-demention? did Ark ever make a term for it?) but for right now I'm leaning on no and will probably have him eventually rely on aluminum handled weapons or the like. Healing yes there is nothing about his weirdness that would stop that from happening.

OK, so at what oath would he be?

105 for magic and 75 for skills.

I would ask for a little bit more definition on the Words: How far out can she see them? can she only see them in light or if she's in a dark room will she not be able to see them?

Also, what was her second oath?

180... Is this too OP? My character is almost entirely non-combative, but I'm fine with making her less powerful.

In answer to your question, she can see the words if she's in earshot of the person, and has a line of sight on them. I don't think that she'd be able to see the words in pitch black darkness, but she can make them out pretty well in dim lighting.

She's a Truthwatcher, so we don't know for sure what her Oath would be in actual Canon, but I went with "I will seek knowledge wherever it can be found". This was when she was hesitant to leave behind everything she knew, but also realized that the Alleyverse could tell her a lot about the nature of the universe.

Right now just first Oath, the second will come once he discovers Illumination maybe a bit after and any other after that I don't have directly pegged down.

Sorry! I forgot to say that that was the raw score.

I would subtract about 10 points for the second oath, and 20 for the weakness.

That’s 150 your character is good!

He’s at first oath, plus his skills means that he is ok! I will add them to the list in a couple of hours.
