The Ten Orders: How They do Everyday Things

little wheel

Recommended Posts

The Knight Radiants volunteer at an animal shelter:

The Windrunner plays with all the dogs, even the ones that growl or pee on him, so long as they have had their shots.

The Skybreaker hovers over the shoulders of potential adopters, making sure they fill out everything on their forms correctly.

The Dustbringer reaches through the bars to pet a pretty calico and gets badly scratched. She pulls back her hand, swears for a bit, then gets a glint in her eye and says, "Playing hard to get, are you?" She spends the next several hours trying to befriend the cranky kitty, and leaves the shelter bloodied but triumphant.

The Edgedancer remembers an elderly black tom that has been forgotten, and starts a Facebook campaign to find him his forever home.

The Truthwatcher uses his visions to match which pets would do best with which people.

The Lightweaver picks up the laser pointer, looks at it, grins, puts it down, and says, "I can do better." An hour later, as they're trying to guide a confused kitten out of the airducts, she shrugs apologetically and says, "Okay, maybe I overdid it a little."

The Elsecaller sighs and soulcasts a hole big enough to reach in and grab the kitten.

The Stoneward is rammed in the crotch at about forty miles an hour by an overly-friendly Great Dane, but he still stands where others would have fallen.

The Bondsmith reunites a lost labradoodle with its grateful owners.

The Willshaper is seen leaving the premises with suspicious kitten-sized bulges in her pockets.

Knight Radiants online!

 EDIT: now with Windrunners!

Bondsmith: after starting a horrific Tumblr flame war, he comes to deeply regret his past online persona and blogs his resolve to unite instead of divide. To which the trolls say, "Challenge accepted."

Elsecaller: "Citation needed."

Windrunner: is a global moderator for the Urithiru.com forums.

Lightweaver: joins Urithiru.com with twelve of her suspiciously similar friends, gets banned for sock puppeting.

Dustbringer: joins Urithiru.com, gets banned for incessant flaming.

Edgedancer: joins Urithiru.com, gets a warning for necro'ing threads that have been forgotten.

Skybreaker: swears an Ideal of Crusade to cleanse the internet of bad grammar, misspellings, and incorrect use of the word 'literally'. Has not been seen since.

Stoneward: wins all his online arguments by refusing to back down or change his mind on anything, until his opponents just give up out of frustration.

Willshaper: passionately involved in the Homestuck fandom, and has written a 30,000-word AU on fanfic.net, which fortunately does not seem to have been found by the Skybreaker yet.

Truthwatcher: plays games on Steam all day. Knows the RNG. Is one with the RNG. Is rumored to have compromising photos of the RNG, because no one is that lucky.

How the 10 orders lead a war.

Windrunner: Insists on being on the front lines so he can protect others

Skybreaker: Is regulation perfect on everything(you last found him carefully filling off the .001mm of extra stock on a weapon that was caused by factory error).

Elsecaller: Is calmly assessing the enemy's capabilities and is putting together the optimal plan for attack.

Bondsmith: Is trying to unite the different branches of survive into one branch(he is loosing).

Edgedancer: Is making sure everyone can participate in the war.

Lightweaver: No one knows how the war is going but we somehow have not been invaded yet.  No one is realy sure why.

Dustbringer: "Bring more explosives!"

Truthwatcher: No one actually knows where the guy is.  Its rumored he mixes in with the regular troops to help with camp setup.

Willshaper:  Would be leading the war but is constantly distracted by shiny objects and new possibilities.

Stoneward:  Some people say that leadership has a tendency to fight the last war.  This leadership actually does fight the last war... and the last last war... and the last last last war.

How the ten orders go trick-or-treating:

Windrunners: Makes sure nobody in their group is targeted by pranks, and that everyone gets their fair share of candy.

Skybreakers: Left the group a while ago to chase off the Dustbringer and hasn’t come back. Probably lost them when they ran across the street without waiting for a green light.

Dustbringers: Stole a bunch of other people’s candy and pranked them in life-endangering ways.

Edgedancers: Giving most of their candy to others who need it, and relishing what they keep. The only one who approved of the Bondsmith’s idea.

Truthwatchers: Already knows which places have good candy and which don’t, only goes to the good ones. Has therefore hit up less houses than most but has the best candy selection of them all.

Lightweavers: Has the absolute best costume - or rather costumes, as they put on new ones to go to houses they’ve already been to again.

Elsecallers: Has made a science of which houses to go to and knows every family intimately.

Willshapers: Scoffs at everyone else for not having made it past their neighborhood in the first hour. They’re on the other side of the city, still collecting.

Stonewards: Stayed home to hand out candy because someone had to do it (but is secretly hoarding the leftovers).

Bondsmiths: Trying to keep everyone from wandering off, very annoyed that they failed in this. Asked everyone to give up their candy to a communal supply, so they could all eat from it.

How the 10 Orders pick up a date.

Windrunner.  Makes absolutly sure to only take their date around the nicest part of town and has to make absolutly sure that they are the right one first because breaking up might hurt someones feelings(they are not seeing much action).

Skybreaker.  Only dates law enforcement and lawyers and is scrupulous in remembering appointments and anniversaries(this strategy tends to get somewhat annoying after a while).

Dustbringers.  Likes to date but the relationships go up in flames regularly.

Willshapers.  Never dates the same kind of person twice.  Going through their Xs is a big like going to the zoo.

Lightweavers.  They did not cheat on their significant other per say...

Elsecallers.  Scan the bar to locate optimal dates.  This gets somewhat complicated.

Bondsmith.  Is the reason that you ended up on a supper awkward double date.  Loving together!

Stoneward.  Still dates according to the rules of the 1970s.  This strategy works surprisingly well in some crowds.

Edgedancer.  Always dates someone who was lonely before.  They are constantly out of their other's league.  These relationships do rather well.

Truthwatcher.  Got picked up by the Edgedancer.  Can't believe that dude's luck!

How the orders react to The Dress. (ya know, the one that is DEFINITELY GOLD AND WHITE I WILL FIGHT YOU)

Windrunner: Is having a hard time keeping their third oath

Skybreaker: Sees blue and black, because legally it is.  :(

Dustbringer: Thinks it's white and gold, and will division you if you disagree

Edgedancer: Sees it as white and gold, but slides away the moment the topic comes up.

Truthwatcher: Knew about the coming conflict before it started, and went to see for themselves.

Lightweaver: Lightweave the dress to look like they say it does to everyone.

Elsecaller: Sees black and blue, and can tell you exactly why it looks the way it does.

Willshaper: Sees it differently each time.

Stoneward: Whatever they saw the first time, they're sticking to it.

Bondsmith: We don't know what they see since they refuse to get involved.

The ten orders in Kindergarten

Windrunner: Is always on the swingset pretending to fly. Took the blame for the missing sandwiches so the Willshaper wouldn’t get in trouble.

Dustbringer: Runs with scissors and kicked sand into another kid’s face. Brought matches to show-and-tell once.

Edgedancer: Consoles that kid and invites them to play with them. Is the best at tag and has never forgotten to wash their hands before lunch.

Skybreaker: Tells on the Dustbringer immediately. Always colors inside the lines. Complains that the Windrunner has been on the swingset for too long and that it’s their turn now.

Truthwatcher: Knows about all the little mischief all the other kids get up to but is cool and doesn’t tell on them. Knows how to calm the Dustbringer down.

Willshaper: Has to be told not to eat dirt but has a collection of the coolest sticks and acorns. Found a birds nest in one of the trees. Always tracks mud inside.

Lightweaver: All of their drawings make it on to the fridge. Has an imaginary friend. Always wins at hide and seek.

Elsecaller: Can count the farthest and they can already sort of spell their name. Good friends with the Truthwatcher.

Stoneward: Very well behaved, plays with their favorite toy truck every single day.

Bondsmith: Is the kindergarten teacher who has to make sure everyone gets along.

The 10 orders doing homework

Windrunner: Does homework on time, fulfills the minimum requirements. Reminds everyone else to study and lets anyone work with them during class.

Skybreaker: Shows work on every problem, cannot even fathom the idea of copying, lectures everyone on the long-term effects of cheating and plagiarism.

Dustbringer: Their assignments can usually be found crumpled at the bottom of their backpack, but they're creative about finding other places (like the washing machine or a bonfire).

Edgedancer: Does homework on the car ride to their sport practice. Uses sticky notes to remember what to do. Occasionally shares answers and provides emotional support.

Truthwatcher: Prefers to work alone, likes to finish homework in class. Sometimes has panic/anxiety attacks the night before a test.

Lightweaver: Doodles during the class notes, procrastinates, and uses Google to "check" their answers. They like to compare work with someone else, mostly the Willshaper.

Elsecaller: Studies obsessively, overthinks every question, creates cheat sheets. When pressed for answers, they only give hints.

Willshaper: Listens to music when they do decide to start. The rest of the time they procrastinate and try to compare answers, usually with the Lightweaver.

Stoneward: Always does homework in a certain order, keeps a calendar, submits all assignments on time. They guard their answers like the last (spike-free, obviously) cookie.

Bondsmith: Helps others when done with their own homework, prefers not to work alone and asks the other orders to join their study group. They do not approve of cheating, but try to avoid arguments.

How the ten orders make a movie

Windrunner: Ensures that all of the safety equipment is top notch and cancels all of the dangerous stunts.

Skybreaker: Ensures that all wage and safety regulations are followed , but quits when it is discovered that the script was stolen.

Dustbringer: Burns the set down during a random scene because they can.

Edgedancer: Revives forgotten genres.

Truthwatcher: Sees that the Edgedancer is on to something and signs on.

Lightweaver: Creates a one person film through a quick change of lightweavings.

Elsecaller: Stick to well researched biopics and documentaries

Willshaper: Gets lost on their own set.

Stoneward: Sticks to overused and formulaic plots while employing the same crew for every movie.

Bondsmith: Creates family friendly movies.

Due to recent events, I thought this one might be a bit fun to do. Behold, the ten orders in quarantine:

Windrunner- They’re actually not home right now, they’re wearing a hazmat suit delivering food and supplies to everyone. They’re also letting Dustbringer live with them.

Skybreaker- They follow the quarantine religiously and haven’t set foot outside since it began. They’re beginning to wonder how to get food...

Dustbringer- They got bored while in quarantine and accidentally burned their house down, so now they are living with Windrunner.

Edgedancer- They’re taking the time to go through all their keepsakes and old photos to remember what they have forgotten.

Truthwatcher- They know exactly when the quarantine will end, so they’ve bought supplies accordingly.

Lightweaver- They lie to themselves and pretend that there is no quarantine, so right now they’re outside taking a chance to create some public art.

Elsecaller- They’re the one whose been studying the coronavirus and keeping track of where it’s going, who has it, etc.

Willshaper- Doesn’t even realize there is a quarantine. They’re still hiking in the mountains, away from civilization.

Stoneward- Has creates a very specific routine for each day inside of the house and is dedicated to doing the same things, every day.

Bondsmith- They’re uniting everyone through video chats, since they can’t actually meet physically.

How the ten orders prepared for Corona:

Windrunner: They have a large supply of hardtack and military rations. They don't need to stock up any more than they have.

Skybreaker: Patrols the stores, making sure people aren't buying too much of any one item, especially toilet paper.

Truthwatcher: They stocked up with everything several months in advance.

Edgedancer: They stocked up, then emptied their stores to anyone who needed it.

Dustbringer: They steal all the toilet paper.

Willshaper: They spread the virus by traveling everywhere.

Lightweaver: They disguise themselves as different people in order to empty the stores.

Stoneward: They're still living off the land like their great-great-grandfather.

Elsecaller: They calculated exactly how many supplies they needed in order to survive the quarantine.

Bondsmith: They set up a shared supply dump, the Edgedancer gave all their supplies to it and wouldn't take any, the Windrunner gives excess supplies, the Dustbringer takes supplies, the Skybreaker and the Elsecaller take and give equally, and the lightweaver doesn't seem to know about it, but seems to have told a bunch of random people about it.

Hoid(because the man is his own order): created the virus to see what would happen and is now cackling madly videoing all the idiots buying toilet paper.

How the ten orders get vaccinated:

Windrunner: Knows that the best way to protect people is by getting vaxxed, wearing a mask, and social distancing, and does so as soon as possible, then bugs other people to do it too.

Skybreaker: Works hard to enforce the rules for businesses or events that require vaccination and/or masks, making sure everyone is safe.

Dustbringer: Strives for self-mastery in all areas by getting vaxxed, then trying to help others be their best selves whether or not they do the same.

Edgedancer: Realizes that illnesses can hit disadvantaged or poorer communities worse, so tries to help them get vaxxed and provides free food and water at medical centers.

Truthwatcher: Is working with the Elsecaller to keep creating better and better vaccines, and makes sure that news, advertising, and the media relay only the facts.

Lightweaver: Lightweaves and Soulcasts advertisements for free vaccines and promotes the Edgedancer so people donate food and water to them.

Elsecaller: Is working with the Truthwatcher to keep creating better and better vaccines, as well as the Willshaper to ship vaccines and medicine around the world.

Willshaper: Is working to ship vaccines and medicine around the world to everyone who might need them, and making sure people's rights aren't infringed upon while still encouraging everyone to take safety measures.

Stoneward: A tireless medical worker giving out shots of the vaccine, occasionally letting the Edgedancer do it so they can sleep, but mostly getting the work done reliably on their own.

Bondsmith: Helped organize all these projects and keeps everyone from thinking that only their part matters, or fighting with each other. Working with everyone they possibly can to unite the world, because everyone's health is the priority.

(The healers/regrowth users are obviously also doing their best in that respect, and everyone is using Stormlight for themselves, but those kinda felt like givens and I wanted to personalize it as much as possible.)

Considering Stormlight healing would be more effective than a vaccine as you aren't transmissable with it, I think they would save them for other people.
