Would Sand Mastery work on other worlds?

So between volume 1 and Khriss' entry in Arcanum, we know that the sand mastery works by using water to create a connection to the lichen on the sand on Taldain's Dayside.  This causes the sand to turn black until it recharges under the sun's investiture.

So simple question: would it even work on other worlds?  Is it something that maybe could manipulate invested matter (like god metals and stormlight filled gems)?  Or is it something that is useless outside of Taldain?

If you had the sand, you could use it of world. But it wouldn't be able to recharge because of the lack of the Sun on Taldain recharging the sand.

Interesting... that would solve the problem possibly - if you brought THAT sand and cultivated the lichen, you COULD potentially recharge the sand with other sources of investiture (Stormlight being the most likely option, though an Elantrian may be able to use AonDor to funnel power into it with the right Aon or Aons.  Breath could work, but would be expensive).

Thank you for the idea!

You should be able to recharge the sand with any investiture, actually. So yes.

We've actually seen that process used in other books, actually.  Stormlight spoilers:

In Oathbringer, Hoid uses a jar of spent sand as a Radiant detector, which tips him off to Shallan's presence.

What if you coated a stone with sand lichen, and left it out in a high storm? That would be really powerful. Or if you grow the lichen all along the ground and slatrified it, you could drown an army.

Assuming of course that the lichen could withstand hurricane-grade gusts.

There’s lichen growing on the outside of my house, and I’m not entirely sure that either a Highstorm or an Everstorm could kill it!

You’re right though, the storms do rule out a lot of possibilities for plants from other planets growing on Roshar.

We don't know if the Lichen could grow in number on other kind of matter rather than Sand (maybe Taldain's one only) but by the way the slatrified is going to become uncanon so the problem is solved.

By the way, White sand Prose Spoiler:

Spoiler

Slatrified as it's showed allow to turn in water just little amount of White Sand.
