Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings

Recommended Posts

Dear ________

You have been invited to Fadrex, by the will of Lord Tekiel. And to refuse such an offer would be unprecedented. So First, I shall inform you that anyone reading this letter has a certain quality that we find extraordinary, and we wish to only grow your potential. Whether that be the will to survive these turbulent times, or a certain affinity for anything pointed, we have considered everything.

However, we cannot accept everyone that has been invited, so we must first run a simple entrance test. Anyone that passes this test will be allowed in to Fadrex, and if you fail the test, well, we won’t have to worry about that.

You will find enclosed within the letter all the information that you need to know before the test starts.

We hope to see you next week.

Sincerely,
The Court Fool

Roles:
THUG: Our Scientists have a theory that the less intelligent you are, the stronger the body. They’re very keen to examine your dead body. Presuming you can actually survive the first attack.

TINEYE: You know when everyone is silent and there’s that one guy that always talks? Well, we’re looking for you. At least you get others talking, ya know? But when you’re dead, everyone will go back to being lovely and silent.

SMOKER: You hate people. Every night, you’ll take someone in so that you don’t hate yourself every night, but someone else. You can also go out and socialise with people, but who would do that?

SEEKER: You stalk everyone, with no exceptions. You’ll find everything, metals or lack of metals. You can even notice if someone has spikes in their eyes! Isn’t that impressive?

COINSHOT: You love to murder people. That’s all we need to know.

LURCHER: You love to hug and protect people. Bit of a weird one, but we’ll give it a go.

SOOTHER: You hate it when people interrupt your book reading. They’ve usually got a fair point though, like who even reads Sanderson books? Luckily, you can make people shut up.

RIOTER: You love to debate, especially about politics. Is Lord Tekiel the best? After you talk to them, no-one would say no. However, no-one really trusts your opinion on the matter anymore.

UNSNAPPED: We think you might be able to do something, but you also could not do anything. I’m betting on not doing anything, though.

REGULAR CREW MEMBER: Everyone likes to compare themselves to others to make them feel better. You? You’re just the only one that can’t feel better.

INQUISITOR: Ooooh! Shiny! Oh, and I guess you can give other people shiny things. Can’t live without shinies though, right?

Cosmetic Roles:
These are additional roles that players can take on at their own discretion. They do not affect the game play in any way other than to modify how the player posts. If you come up with your own role, feel free to suggest it. There is no penalty for not using one. These are here for your enjoyment, not to be a deterrent.

High Imperial - Wasing the wanting of speaking in High Imperial. You must use it at least somewhere in your posts. Note: you do not have to use it for every sentence and you still need to be mostly intelligible.

Survivor Priest - Kelsier wasn't just a famous crew leader for you. Perhaps you were in Luthadel during the riots. Perhaps you saw him come back. Regardless, you're a believer and must make reference to the Survivor or the Survivor religion in each post.

Cassanova - Good looks are such a curse; one you know all too well. While you didn't ask for it, to you, it's obvious that you are the best looking person ever and you won't let anyone forget it. In every post, you need to remind everyone of what a heartbreaker you are.

The Jaist - Somehow, somewhere, you heard about Jaism and knew it to be perfect for you. Now that the Lord Ruler is gone, you've taken up the mantle of this lost religion and in Jaist fashion, you frequently mention your faith. You must end your posts with "Praise the Ja."

The Feruchemist - You’re secretly a Feruchemist, and you’re not really sure what all the metals are used for in Allomancy. But when you’re surrounded by Mistings, you just have to play along. In every post, you must mention how confused you are at all this Allomancy stuff.

----------------------------

And that's Game (3)2! Please state the name of your character and how you’re preparing for the test! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask either here or in a PM!

Let the Chaos Test begin!

All credit to my esteemed co-GM, Stink, for the role descriptions and setting, and a great many thanks to Meta for allowing us to rerun his game. I've always found rereading LG2 fascinating, and hope it's enjoyable for everyone to play! The game will begin in 168 hours time, next Sunday, at 11pm British Summer Time.

Rule clarifications:

1. Unsnapped begin the game as vanilla villagers. Each cycle, they have a chance of snapping into their powers, which is raised significantly in a cycle where the Inquisitor has converted a Misting.

2. This is a rerun of LG2, and rules clarifications for LG2 are almost certain to apply here.

Player list:

1. Arinian - Alrin

2. Hemalurgic Headshot - Quinn

3. Jondesu - Remart

4. Elenion - Roger Elariel

5. Drake Marshall - Serray

6. Darkness Ascendant - The Phantom Stranger

7. Randuir - Magister Agemtsar

8. Magestar - David Agemtsar

9. Herowannabe - Herwynbe

10. Yitzi2 - Garshin

11. Metacognition

12. Silverblade5 - Ryth

Joe had a brother. His name was Quinn. Quinn actually could do things, unlike Joe. So Quinn got a job, and didn't burn the building down on the first day. Quinn also found a girl, took a liking to her, and successfully got married, all while staying alive and making sure the girl didn't die of food poisoning. But Quinn has a problem, a big problem in the Final Empire: he's a Feruchemist. Despite his skill, he knows absolutely nothing about Allomancy. No one knows this, expect for Joe, but sadly, Joe is dead. So Quinn has his secret, and tries to keep it hidden.

So the Unsnapped could have an Allomantic ability, but don't?

Remart is at the pub (surprise surprise), storing plenty of calories from his three plates of food and two mugs of ale, so he's ready for anything. Edit: I'll keep my crippled and constantly eating CRs, and while Remart is a Bendalloy Ferring, I won't try to take on that CR since he is also familiar with Allomancy.

Since Cassius the Casanova has been killed, buried, exhumed, and grave-robbed, I think I'll let him rest in peace for a few more games before I use him again.

Ising the signing up as Roger Elariel. Hasing the studying of many languages. Ising the speaking of High Imperial and the believing of socialism.

As I recall, in LG2 the Unsnapped were essentially vanilla villagers at the beginning. Each night, there was a slight chance of them snapping. (I believe there was also a higher chance of a villager Snapping into the specific role of a Misting killed and spike taken by the Inquisitor.) I'm guessing these rules are the same, so I'd recommend looking over LG2's rules if anyone wants clarification on any of these.

I'll take a spec doc link, please.

Mmmm this is reminding me of AG3. Although apparently its a LG2 rerun so I should probably look up LG2.

I'll sign up, anyways.

Lets make a new character... Hm... Sign me up as Serray, the daughter of an impoverished noble.

Since I played survivor priest last time I got to pick a cosmetic role...

Wasing always the wanting of speaking high imperial. Ising the learning of high imperial, after my house wasing the collapse.

I'd like to join this game as well. @Magestar, can I use the magister Agemtsar name here, as my Kandra was probably using his bones after LG 31. If you plan on him reincarnating for this (or a future) game, I'll use another set of bones, of course.

No, that's fine. :P  But if you die, please be aware that I intend to harvest his bones from your dead body.

David Agemtsar, Magister Agemtsar's grandson, who's dedicated his life to retrieving his grandfathers bones. :P

This looks like fun.  Loving the play on numbers here. :P

Allright, so I'm signing up as magister Agemtsar. The reports of his death by coinshot in Luthadel have been greatly exagerated, and where most definitely wishful thinking on the part of his enemies.

Edit: Are there any particular character traits of magister Agemtsar that a Kandra would be aware of, @Magestar

TBH, I didn't really put a lot of work into the character, and didn't have time to develop him in LG31, for obvious reasons. :P

seriously considered having Carmichael ride in on a koloss. :P But that is, perhaps, a story for another day.

Besides, the whole David Agemtsar was to good to pass up.  Even if we do both end up being villagers. :P

I'm pretty sure LG2 didn't have any snapping mechanics. IIRC, the gist of LG2 was that there was only one Eliminator: an inquisitor with a handful of spikes that did stuff. Each night, the inquisitor could use one of her spikes (thus losing that power) to spike someone, converting them to her team and granting them whatever power was in the spike, and they lost any previous powers they may have had.

The snapping into new mistings is a new (I believe) addition but a clever one, as it allows for people to spontaneously gain powers without being spiked, giving the newly spiked players a chance to explain their new powers if needed.

I'll be signing up as Herwynbe, a former Terris Steward (and completely unspiked, I swear! I haven't dabbled in Hemalurgy in weeks now...) who, with the fall of the Lord Ruler, is no longer required to serve anyone. Instead, he is a liberated Terris Keeper, and in each post he will do his best to teach everyone some long forgotten skill or bit of knowledge that the other people will almost certainly find useless given their current circumstances.

From the rules of LG2:

Quote

UNSNAPPED: You are a Regular Villager, except you have a latent ability hiding inside of you. In the chance that a Misting is converted into a Spiked player, you'll finally recognize your true potential and snap into your allomantic powers. You will inherit the abilities of the converted allomancer, although there is a 25% chance of getting a different one.

There is also a 10% chance that you will snap eventually anyways. Every night, the GM will roll to see if you snap. If you do, the power you get will be assigned randomly.

Finally got some time to procrastinate from Math homework :D

I've decided on a real good story for Phantom :D I'll be dropping hints here and there :D

----------------------------

<Instance loading>

<Assimilation complete>

<Welcome Phantom Stranger>

<OMEGA greets you>

--------------------------

Phantom blinked...where was he this time?

He grit his teeth and struggled to remember what had happened. Bits of data entered his mind, strands of information, a scent, a sound, a scream. He started, the sudden movement nearly causing him to vomit. He shuddered, shoulders heaving with racks of gagging and coughing. He took a few moments to compose himself, wincing at the burning in his throat. With a final heave he settled, mulling in the silence. He gave a glance at his surroundings. The side of an empty street, the mist hadn't set in yet. The cobbled road holding deep cracks. the buildings rising ominously to both his sides. A scent, a sound, a scream. How did he remember? Usually he would have been in a state of flux as his new self buried itself into his conscious. This time was different, the assimilation hadn't taken as long and he didn't feel like a new person.

He looked down at himself and found that he was wearing something incredibly familiar. A suit and trench coat. He checked his pockets, nothing, Interdrive, nothing, nothing.

A letter.

He fished it out of the letter and inspected it in the slight moonlight. An invitation, and a pang of nostalgia and de ja vu....he had gotten letters like this before.

He groaned. Not another gathering...

<Assimilation complete>

He twitched and jerked a little, Assimilation complete? Then what was that referring to last time?

Suddenly, a vast new knowledge opened up to him.

Wasing the knowing of past lives

High Imperial it seemed he was.

And so the day opened, as all others did, as ash fell from the sky. A glaring red sun loomed in the dark sky, and Quinn was taking his lovely morning stroll, enjoying the day on his way to work, as an accountant. He had a wristwatch, a lovely golden one, on his left wrist. It was very ordinary, not too noticeable, except to pickpockets and thieves. Quinn's watch was much more valuable than a little trinket, to him. For the watch was secretly a metalmind. It was one of the few he actually showed in daylight, disguised of course. Quinn had a few others elsewhere on his body.

He tread the worn cobble streets of Fadrex to his office, on the other side of the town from the lovely little apartment complex where he and his wife took residence. Room 15b, to be precise. Quinn liked to be precise. He patted the pocket of his suit, where he had slipped the strange letter that had come in the morning mail. His wife had no idea of what it implied. They already lived here, and in the full four years of their residence, not one word of this test had come. Well, now that Quinn thought about it, there was one other time, but he had dismissed it. He walked along, lost in thought.

Suddenly, a figure tumbled out of an alley, in a bulky trench coat. Quinn was jerked from his reverie and his moral instincts kicked in. He hurried over to see if the man was alright.

Ah, Quinn's fatal flaw, his innocence. Despite being so successful, he knows so little of the real world.

Really, butting in so soon? Couldn't you just let the story unfold? And now look, you've gone and confused everyone else!

Shush, it'll be fine. We can reveal ourselves in proper fashion later. Ciao, everyone.

Goodday.

The mail coach pulled up.  "Letter for you".

"Thank you."  Garshin went back to his house and opened the letter.  Maybe he'd finally gotten that nomination to the Senate; after all his work, the Sliver certainly knew he deserved it.

As he opened the letter, a strange mist surrounded him.  By the time he had finished reading it, he was in a dim ash-strewn alley, with more ash falling from the sky.  Somehow, he was still able to breathe without difficulty.

What...have I been sent back in time?  Must be.  Maybe if I pass this test, whatever it is, I'll get to go back.  First step, figure out when I am.

-----------

I've decided on a new cosmetic role: Time traveler.  Garshin is from era 1.5, so I'll be making constant references to the fact that I know how things will turn out in the long term, if not for Garshin himself, and referring to main characters (if relevant) by their era 1.5 titles.

I will be out of town next weekend, so I probably won't be around at that time, but as I told Orlok when he asked about rerunning LG2, I build games that I think I, myself, would enjoy and that I hope everyone else would as well. As such, there's no way I'm missing the opportunity to get a chance to actually play in a game based off of one of my own! :)

I've yet to come up with a character, but I'll have one soon. :)
