Crazy Theory about Brandon

So, what do you bet that Brandon Sanderson has a secret account on this website and goes around commenting and generally lurking on posts. What if he gets his ideas from our predictions and then the predictions end up being right?

This probably has no basis in fact but it was something funny to think about. :P

I'd do it.  Not only would I do it, but I'd also post the craziest, yet true, stuff in the theory threads just so in 10-30 years when it's revealed to be true I might give others the opportunity to go, "wait..."

Of course, I'd worry about those forum folks who have memories that long, but I'd still do it.

He has a real account that he seems to use mostly for announcements and he has no need to lurk just to see what we're all thinking. He may be an Aes Sedai Grandmaster in the art of twisting the truth without actually lying but keeping a secret account just to mess with us doesn't seem at all like him.

But if we want to play the game of 'Guess Brandon's secret account' as an intellectual exercise, we risk starting down the same path that dooms all discussion of A Song of Ice and Fire, where it has been conclusively proven that every character is actually a Faceless Man pretending to be someone else. We are all Bavadin. We are all Brandon. :D

I think it's cool that he's so involved with his fanbase, because some authors just ignore it. I really don't think there's any basis to my "theory" it was just a funny thought I had, and I'm sure some theories may turn out to be true or partly true. Theorizing fills in the agonizing gaps between actually waiting for the book to come out and brings the fans closer to each other and to the author^_^

I don't think Brandon's a secret Sharder. He's too busy with his writing.

My theory: GRRM and Pat Rothfuss are secret Sharders. They're always hanging out here, making bad puns and theorizing about Trell. Which, we can all agree, is the best possible use of their time. Bad puns are certainly more important than finishing my novel.

Brandon doesn't personally invest time browsing through his fan websites. He has people who does this for him such as faithful Peter and even then, I doubt they read everything. I thus don't think he reads our theories and/or our speculations in full length. Generally speaking, he must be aware of the most discussed topics or how his readership is reacting to a given character, but I don't think he personally reads the specifics. He also once said he expects his fans to figure out things before he writes them in due to his writing style which makes use of foreshadowing.

He is more active on Reddit, but even then, he recently said he didn't read all threads. He'll pop in if pinged, but he doesn't get involved in theory making or speculation threads.

But seriously I wish I was.

Now I am thinking about how I am not Sanderson and I am really sad :/

So that's why Winds of Winter takes so long.

Spoiler

Like the 103% accurate version of Oathbringer, with the ShardFork!

How do I get spoiler tags to work? I'm trying <spoiler> and </spoiler> and it's not working.

@jofwu Thanks!

If you like typing tags or are on mobile, make sure you're using square brackets instead of angle brackets.

I'll bet 5 bucks that this is why George R.R. Martin is taking so long on Winds of Winter.

He has to rewrite it to make everyone a secret Targaryen, explain why Benjen, Euron, and Daario are all the same person, and also throw in new time principles to reveal D+D=T

So the leading candidate would be Lightflame right. Since one of their outlandish predictions came true brilliantly.

No, but I know his secret.

The real Brandon was the friends we made along the way.

It's fun to think about. However, I think.. Legally (don't quote me on this because I've only seen a post by a different author a long time ago) he can't do much of browsing fan-made theories/fanfiction/etc due to plagiarism issues? Like he can't just steal ideas made from fans or something. (He probably wouldn't but it's just a precaution for authors I suppose?)

Also it'd be cool for him to pop in and pretend he's just a fan and go along with all of these theories! :P

ive actually thought about this for a while, if I was an author I'd definitely have an account on these websites. Sorta common sense....
