As it is close to the holidays at the time of this posting, I thought it seasonally appropriate to invite a pug to sing about a Christmas wish we can all get behind.

Spoiler

(Since there is a discussion currently ongoing in the other thread, I'll leave it open so people can quote from it; but please move the discussion to this thread. :) )

Yep

Basically, it's a free-form RP set in the world of the Reckoners, more specifically around Portland, OR.

Twi came up with the basic idea, and it's brilliant. Not to mention very entertaining, and an excellent opportunity to exercise your writing ability.

I would love to! I just have to know what this is first.

Well, here's a thread explaining the rules and another thread on the format. The plot follows the destruction of Oregon prior to the beginning of Steelheart. Here's a list of Epics up for adoption; please read this and consider adopting one before creating a new Epic. Human characters are very much welcome, and here is a thread listing some possible ideas. Additions for threads other than Corvallis are forthcoming.

Ah, so if I wanted to merge two Portland characters and place them in, could I join the thread? Or is it closed to new players in general?

Depends on whether or not the character is an Epic, and what you mean by "merge." The thread is closed to all new Epics, but open to non-Epic characters.

Well, on the list of "adoptable epics" there are two who I think would work very well together as a single character. However, I seem to take your meaning as no Epics whatsoever are allowed to join Portland. Could I move them somewhere else?

New Epics of your own creation are not allowed. You can, however, adopt these other already-created Epics and bring them back into the fray in Portland, if you so desire.

You'd need to both offer more specifics on combining Epics and ask for approval from the mod of the thread you want to join.

Well, this is no longer my interest but I will ask anyway. Is merging two Epics in a non-OP fashion alright? Should I get permission first?

But while on the topic of Epics... I DO wish to join this wonderful community. Is there any specific place I should go to create my Epic, or any person whom I should speak with? Any info would be great.

As I've mentioned before, Epic creation is a group project. New players post their character ideas in this thread, and all players who have feedback and criticism offer it. This ensures that the new Epic 1) has a powerset that won't cause difficulties for other players, 2) has a personality and MO that will fit well into the game and offer something unique to it, and 3) ends up in the right thread. There is no one person to get feedback from, as different players have different perspectives to offer. After the feedback phase, you will get final approval from the GM of the thread you wish to join, and PM them and me your Epic's weakness.

In other words, you get permission from this thread. If you want to join this game, posting your Epic's profile here—and accepting criticism and making necessary changes—is a must. There is no circumventing this step.

My Epic:

Name: Battery

Prime Ability: Feedback: Battery can absorb and redirect energy attacks from other Epics. However, the power of the attack will diminish greatly as soon as it has been absorbed (i.e. if a blast could obliterate a car, it would instead knock it over). Battery is acutely aware of the power of each strike he has absorbed, and can redirect the energy whenever he wishes. However, the longer he holds the energy in, the weaker it becomes, while feeding his Epic-ish tendencies.

Secondary Ability: Enhanced durability and strength: Battery can tank a couple of hits from an Epic with above average strength, and survive a fall from a five story building. However, he cannot survive a sustained fight with powerful Epics nor survive bullets and tank shells.

Personality: God Complex: Battery sees himself as a god. After all, only a god would have superpowers, wouldn't he? He seeks to destroy all other Epics and rule his own domain. Conniving and cruel in his Epic form, Battery will stop at nothing to succeed. However, after spending time without absorbing energy, he winds down. During this time, he uses his abilities sparsely, seeking to redirect any absorbed energy instantaneously in order to limit personality changes. During this time, Battery falls into deep depression and guilt over the murders he has committed, eventually using his powers to save people, only to revert to his Epic state and subjugate them.

Your character is interesting, both powers-wise and internal struggle-wise.

But what is his story? Who is he, and why is he where he is now?

Well, I don't know where he is going to be, but I can summarize his story very simply.

After doing battle with a rogue electrical Epic in Washington, Battery leaves the ruins of his "kingdom" in search of another people to rule. Over the course of his journey, his power supply depletes to nothing, and he slowly reverts to his original personality. Ending a lone wanderer, Ethan seeks to start his life over and never use his powers again, but knowing the magic of plot and his overwhelming compassion, he will soon be forced to.

This doesn't really fit with canon and how pervasive Epic corruption is.
