Favourite Villain Song, Go!

24 posts in this topic

Name your favourite villain song, but only one per post! Share your favourites!

While everyone and their mother will cite "Hellfire" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame or "When You're Evil" by Voltaire, I'd like to nominate an underrated classic.

As an added bonus, since this is a Brandon Sanderson fansite after all, what badass villain song would best fit the amazing villains of the Cosmere, from the Lord Ruler to Hrathen? Leave your thoughts here!

It's not a song, but more of a tune: Imperial Death March in Star wars. I also really like Be Prepared in the Lion King. For some strange reason I love it when the hyenas are goosestepping in front of Scar.

You can't go wrong with John Williams or Disney when it comes to composing ballin' anthems for the bad guys.

I just thought of another one I really like Stars from the Les Miserables musical. Just don't listen to the Russell Crow version. Why they chose actor who can't sing I will never know. I love that song because you really get inside Javier's head and what makes him tick. I have always loved his character.

@Ammanas In a just world, no one would ever have to think about the Russell Crowe version.

And Stars is perfect. Easily one of the best songs from the musical.

Not sure if this counts, but "You'll Be Back" from Hamilton. I don't count Burr as a villain, because he's such a good character.

I just have to second @Quadrophenia's submission of "Playing with the Big Boys Now." Prince of Egypt is one of my favorite movies ever. :) I'm also a huge fan of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, so I think I have to mention the song "Potiphar." Potiphar's not be the real villain of the song (that would be his wife), but this song makes me laugh every time.

@bleeder He's a GREAT character, and none of his songs are particularly villainous. King George and Jefferson, on the other hand, are clearly the least sympathetic and most antagonistic characters in the play. You'll Be Back is easily a villainous love song (complete with promises of brutal massacres filtered through the lenses of a jilted lover), and Jefferson? Of all the Founding Fathers, he's easily singled out and raked over the coals for, you know, his hypocrisies and slavery and sexual exploitation and aristocratic classism. Any of his songs could easily qualify ("What'd I Miss?" is a delightfully ironic narcissistic send up of his own ego and vices).

@Zathoth @TwiLyghtSansSparkles Hail to the Keith!

@Nightbird Prince of Egypt is woefully underrated and criminally misidentified as a "late 90's Disney bandwagon chaser."

Anastasia is, at best, a mixed film. Saying the history is wrong qualifies as the understatement of the century, nd the way it treats Rasputin and the Russian Revolution is, at best, disingenuous, at worst an insult.

...but damnation if the guy didn't have a great villain song.

It's just a damnation shame it's set to a silly sequence where pink dancing bugs provide backing vocals.

It never made it into the movie, but Snuff Out the Light (Yzma's Song) that was made for the Emperor's New Groove is a good villain song.

The ones I've thought of

  • Sadeas - Be Prepared from the Lion King
  • The Set - My Friends on the Other Side especially with Mister Suit = Dr. Facilier

How do you add the video to the post? I want to, but I don't know how.

If I'm being honest, Hellfire really is the one the comes to mind immediately.  I don't like Hunchback very much, but it has some fantastic music.

having said that, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast is pretty great too.

Gaston might be my favorite Disney villian song.

Originally a quasi-villian song, but this played in my head when

Spoiler

Kaladin fights Sezth in the Highstorm

Armonica by Ennio Morricone is what I'd pick for Miles

And lastly... Imagine this in the back of any bridge running scene.

Spoiler

But especially during Bridge 4's rescue of the Kholin army

What'd I Miss always reminds me of this song.

Lets see....be prepared for sure is a good one.

Prince of Egypt is great.

Well, we have one of my favorites (Star Wars' Imperial March) on this thread, but not the other. The following track is one that I think would most fit The Lord Ruler. It is known simply as 'One-Winged Angel', and is the theme for Sephiroth from FFVII. I prefer the Advent Children version (because there's at least one good thing from that movie.)

Not a song, but the instrumental theme for Van Kleiss from Generator Rex was always my favourite part of that show :D Especially when it came on with him being a badass!

Skip to 1:11 for the chorus of the theme!

'I need a hero' - Fairy godmother from Shrek 2 :D

'Hellmarch' - Command and Conquer

'One winged angel', 'Jenova absolute', 'Birth of a god' - FF7 (original PS1)

Perhaps not my actual favourites, but for something a bit different how about "Everyone's a hero" from Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog. (Or "Slipping" depending which you think is more the villain's song :P)

One of the two great themes, the other one being 'Kane's Wrath'. Cannot believe I forgot about those.

I'm going to go with "Friends On The Other Side" by Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog.

Mediocre movie, but I enjoyed the villain (and his song) a ton.
