tracking Brandon's amazing productivity

Recommended Posts

This makes me happy. I know pretty much everybody is angsting about when Stormlight 3 is going to be released, and I think it's great to have a definite measure laid down that shows how good Brandon has been to us, his fans. Kudos to you for gathering all this info and doing the math!

1,140......that's around 3 and a bit pages per day and around 21 and a bit a day. Now that I think about it, as far as writing goes that's not so bad. I think one should put in the amount of time Sanderson has put in creating the ideas as well, the amount of drafts, reworks and the long days he spent trying to sniff out plot holes.

It's the first few Dalinar flashbacks from Oathbringer, so yes and novella length.

Awesome!  How many pages?  (If you have a physical book, or an ebook with page numbers.)

Anybody have Unfettered II?  There's a Brandon story in it called "The Thrill."  I'm wondering if it's Cosmere, and also how long it is.

There are four long flashback chapters which follow Dalinar 36, 34, 28 and 25 years ago which makes him a bit older than we all initially assumed. It has about 1000 pages according to my Kindle, I don't know how many words. They are very good: no spoilers in there, but several interesting to know facts. We get to read how he got Oathbringer, where it comes from and just this is worth the read. We also get to see him meet his wife, we find out her name and, much to my personal delight because I love to know those tiny facts, we get to have a good idea as to how old are many characters.

Spoiler

Oh and, by the looks of it, Dalinar's wife is in no hurry to marry him as, 25 years ago, they still weren't married. I am really starting to wonder how it is they even got married... Food for thoughts here.

Wait a second, wasn't Edgedancer's word count 60,000? I remember it being 60,000.

Nice!  Where did you get your word counts?

Thanks!

I got most of them from here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bLYPHdhopXVh81lTy1KZHfKZX2voue3bukb90u2_Kyw/pubhtml

I got one or two from here: http://drogakrolow.pl/bibliografia-nowego-mistrza/ (the polish website you mentioned earlier)

For some I googled around until I found somebody, anybody, saying they had a word count

Some I just guessed based on page count and a guess for words/page

One of them I found a pdf and put it in Microsoft Word, removed page numbers etc.. (I already bought my own copy of said book, I deleted the pdf and word document afterwards)

Update (04-04-2017):

I found a word count for Snapshot!! Source: http://m.imgur.com/gallery/veN6h

It says on Brandon's site on his page for AU that it's 40 000, I just used that. http://brandonsanderson.com/books/cosmere-short-fiction/arcanum-unbounded/

Cool.  Any idea who put that spreadsheet together?

Yeah, it's from the person who posted a chart over on Reddit showing Brandon's word count over time:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3kwxga/a_chart_of_the_cumulative_word_count_of_brandon/

For some reason the spreadsheet is more up to date than the chart. I guess they're still updating it

Novels are over the line, Shorter-than-novels are under the line (Elantris 10th anniversary only includes added words).

Branderson is awesome.

PS: sorry the text is a little small in the image
