Posted March 2, 2016 In SH, Hoid has Spanky the corpseboat because he said he would fall through the Cognitive Realm otherwise. Why? Nazh and Khriss walk around on their own without a corpseboat - why did Hoid need one?
Posted March 2, 2016 Nazh and Khriss we standing on the Cognitive equivalent of water (a lake), which Kelsier remarks to be like rock, whereas the Cognitive equivalent of ground is like mists. So Hoid needed a boat because he was going where there was ground.
Posted March 2, 2016 Yeah, but Khriss and Nazh were on the lake outside of Luthadel. Wouldn't they have needed to cross the real-world ground to get out of Scadrial's Cognitive Realm?
Posted March 2, 2016 I also think part of it may be because the Well was underground. That is how I interpret Hoid's use of subastral, as analogous to subterranean. I suspect that at ground level there is less danger of falling through, or at least more chance to catch yourself.
Posted March 3, 2016 But the Pits were also underground, and Hoid said they were easier to access than the Well.
Posted March 3, 2016 The Pits didn't have an eldritch god of destruction and entropy stuffed into them.
Posted March 3, 2016 Destroying the pits, O scarred one. That was the only perpendicularity on this planet with any reasonable ease of access. This one is very dangerous, growing more so by the minute, and difficult to find. Yeah, it's dangerous to use because Ruin is there. But it's also hard to get to; why is that, since it's not that different from the Pits? Both were underground.
Posted March 3, 2016 I found the need for a corpse-boat weird too. Also, why a corpse?
Posted March 3, 2016 Well, it would have to be a cognitive entity he can interact with. Dead people are easy to come by.
Posted March 3, 2016 I imagine he snagged one as he was about to go into the Beyond and held onto to it somehow.
Posted March 4, 2016 But the Pits were also underground, and Hoid said they were easier to access than the Well. If Hoid knows this, does he have Atium?

Posted March 4, 2016 If Hoid knows this, does he have Atium? Probably yes but it isn't hard to obtain some Atium
Posted March 4, 2016 Probably yes but it isn't hard to obtain some Atium It is now
Posted March 5, 2016 Well NOW, there isn't even a Well to hop to. Secret History is over three hundred years in the past and that's when Hoid rode in on spanky. Pits were destroyed before thst, and he would have used the Pits before they were gone. There is atium there. That is literally the subject matter you kinda helped start
Posted March 7, 2016 If you put that much power into a system, it will naturally pool in places. The Well still exists. It just has a different purpose.
Posted March 8, 2016 I have something that outright disagrees with that, but how does one link to Theoryland here again?
Posted March 8, 2016 I have something that outright disagrees with that, but how does one link to Theoryland here again? If you need a direct quote there's a script Moogle made http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/22613-a-tool-to-copypaste-from-theoryland-more-easily/
Posted March 8, 2016 On a phone right now, and my phone is downright weird. That would be annoying It's number 20 on the HoA Q&A. Anyone mind?
Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Here ya go: www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=727#20 EDIT: Well, I have the link, but not the direct quote, 'cause I can't figure it out either. Edited March 8, 2016 by Pagerunner
Posted March 8, 2016 Here be quote in quote form Dalenthas (15 October 2008)Does the Well of Ascension still exist in the new world? Or is it no longer necessary? I assumed that Preservation collected there like Ruin collects in the Pits of Hathsin, so if Atium keeps forming then the well should keep filling...Brandon Sanderson (16 October 2008)The Well (and the small wells in the Pits) is no more. For now at least.(source)
Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Yeah, but Khriss and Nazh were on the lake outside of Luthadel. Wouldn't they have needed to cross the real-world ground to get out of Scadrial's Cognitive Realm?they probably follow the canals to the ocean. Then simply walk off Scadrial. I suspect that at ground level there is less danger of falling through, or at least more chance to catch yourself. IMHO the term subastral meaning literally terestrial or (below the stars) refers to each planets individual versions of the cognitive realm.
Posted March 14, 2016 Here be quote in quote form makes since because shard pools are where shards power accumulates when no one is holding them and Sazed is currently holding that power
