Songs That Make You Think of Stormlight Archive

Recommended Posts

Several songs by Of Monsters and Men randomly remind me of Cosmere characters. "Human" kinda reminds me of Kaladin, and "Hunger" makes me think of Eshonai.

This isn't Stormlight, but the song below is totally Vin and Elend. In my mind, at least.

Hidden for length and Mistborn trilogy spoilers.

Little Talks. Read through the lyrics below, and just think about it...

Hey! Hey! Hey!

I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear

The stairs creak as I sleep,
It's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

And some days I can't even trust myself
It's killing me to see you this way

'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Hey! Hey! Hey!

There's an old voice in my head
That's holding me back
Well tell her him that I miss our little talks

Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love

Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right.
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear

'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

You're gone, gone, gone away,
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart,
there's nothing we can do,
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon

Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Teft-Little lion man by Mumford and sons. I have a suspicion that this will become more applicable to him throughout the series.

Augh, that makes me so sad for Teft! Seriously, there are so many characters in this series I just want to hug - though I get the feeling that's something Teft would resist with every bone in his body.

You want to hear something crazy? That was the very first song I heard after finishing the trilogy--I'd gotten up early to finish it before heading into work, and while internally drowning in some intense emotions, I turned on the radio and that was playing (it was the first time I'd heard it as well). So yeah, that song is forever linked with Mistborn for me.

There is a song, I have no idea what it's called. I call it 'Only You', which might actually be it's real name as far as I know. It is what is commonly called a 'golden oldie' in that it is more than a couple of decades old.

About the only part of the song I can recall goes "Only you, can make the world feel right. Only you...." Or something like that.

Whenever I read a Bridge Four chapter, all I can think of is this song.

"Only stew, can make bridge four feel right..."

Papa Roach - Last Resort
Perfect Marsh Theme. In HoA, when he is under Ruin's control and as he is planning his suicide, he contemplates on his life. Loss of his mother, leading and abandoning rebellion, infilitration as an acolyte, losing his sight as he was receiving Inquisitor spikes... and then losing even his mind to Ruin. It fits perfectly.

LORDE- Everybody Wants To Rule The World
It brings to mind power struggles in Roshar - both these official between Alethi Highprinces and those secret wars waged by so many secret societies. And the last part makes me think of Skybreakers, who find themself in the middle of Desolation even though they fought so hard to prevent it.

El Voltage - Saved Song
It fits Mistborn for me... I will translate words here, so you can judge for yourself:

Nobody walks this road anymore
Mist and shadow one must be
Sword mine red became
On this road
Hearts flow in tears' valley
In tears' valley

Black blood does not boil
Clotted tears will hoe/weed the thorn
Time to rise up
To redden the sword

World will inflame anger will burn the eyelids
One arm will save the world
Sword will redden
Someone will save the song
Someone will save the song

Above the valley it will rise
Flashing wave of light in the sword

Saved song
Saved song

Like Spinning Plates - Kaladin as he detests the highprinces' games and snobbishness while his friends die in bridgeruns. Particularly powerful.

You and Whose Army - for the scene where Dalinar survives Sadeas's betrayal and forfeits his Shardblade.

Just - anything with Nalan in it, particularly the Ym scene.

Talk Show Host - Dalinar, when thinking about assassins in the night and Sadeas.

I Will - When thinking about the Listeners who grew up under assault from the Alethi, just trying to protect their children from war.

Reckoner - Makes me think about the larger workings of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium.

You could say I have a thing for Radiohead...

A lot of the instrumental music from Loreena McKennitt reminds me of Stormlight Archive.  In particular her rendition of 'the two trees' by Yeats...  the lyrics also remind me of Lin Davar and Kaladin (when he's struggling with his oaths)

Gaze no more in the bitter glass The demons, with their subtle guile, Lift up before us when they pass, Or only gaze a little while; For there a fatal image grows That the stormy night receives, Roots half hidden under snows, Broken boughs and blackened leaves. For all things turn to barrenness In the dim glass the demons hold, The glass of outer weariness, Made when God slept in times of old.
