Lunglsy sipped a drink in the corner of the ball. Keep Venture had returned victorious, His fellow spies danced and joked around him. The night faded as the ball raged on well into the next day.

MR 6 Wrap Up: The Trials

The Urbain soldiers marched through the halls, gathering up any minor noble left behind. Anyone who resisted was killed. There were a number of Venture corpses. The soldiers herded the population out of the building and towards Keep Urbain. Skaa watched. Locke Urbain was Soothing their fear. The Great Houses wanted the skaa to see.

Gin Urbain clapped his hands. He stood on the balcony above the main entrance. There was an orange, blue, and purple flag waving from one side. More soldiers marched out of where they were waiting. A squadron separated Dr. Konwon from the rest. His true name was WonKo, a kandra.

"What are you doing?" WonKo exclaimed. "You own my loyalties!"

"Sorry." Lady Eris Urbain smirked. The former Hasting walked surrounded by a squadron of Urbain soldiers. She strode confident. Hasting would be an important force now that the Thug was allied with Urbain. Hasting was one of the smallest Great Houses.

Lungsly Urbain's dead eyes surveyed the scene. He drunk in the attention. Lungsly was glad to be Urbain now. Formerly of the Great House Lekal, the alliances between the houses should last for a long time.

Locke Urbain was happy. Urbain would soon be the most powerful Great House in the city. Elariel would soon fall after certain pressures were placed upon them. Gin was right to assassinate Wick. Besides, he had a Hasting, Lekal, and a Tekiel as allies.

"So," said Green Urbain, as he walked up to Locke, "neatly done, eh?"

"You did nothing." Locke dismissed the Tekiel Smoker. "It was Gin and I who arranged all of this." Green recoiled as if Locke had struck him. "You are barely an Urbain. Mostly Tekiel."

"Well, so what? We're all one happy House now, right?" Green emphasised.

"Yeah, sure." Locke waved a hand noncommittally. "Go... teach the new Smoker some tricks." Green shrugged and walked off to where the new Smoker stood. The Smoker wasn't sure how she had gotten herself mixed up in Great House games, but she had needed resources.

The procession marched through the grand entrance. The following room was huge. There was a raised platform at the other end of the room. It seemed as if temporary furniture had been moved in to resemble a... courtroom? Gin walked down a set of bright orange steps. There was a blue tinted glass sliding door out to the balcony at the top of the stairs. There was a deep purple rug across the floor.

The procession split. All of the prisoners except Walin were brought into a holding room with no windows. Urbain soldiers locked the door and took up guard. Walin had four guards on him and multiple weapons pointed at him. Twelve men, all cousins to the Great and Mighty Urbain, walked into the jury box. Lady Eris, Green, and Lungsly sat in the witness box. There was a gaping hole where Quimmpilinn or Wick Wilson would have sat, if they had not made an error. But that was not to be spoken of. The Great and Mighty Urbain did not make errors. The Great and Mighty Urbain would yet rule all of Luthadel.

Gin crossed the floor. Soldiers followed him and took up places at sides of his seat. He sat in the judge's position.

"Welcome to Keep Urbain." Gin's voice echoed across the space. Walin spit at Gin's feet. He was forced to kneel in front of Gin. The Tormander Lurcher was not used to such treatment. Walin tried to Pull himself up by the rafters. An Urbain soldier yanked him to the ground and kicked him. They pinned him to the ground using metal chains. Gin Pushed on them, keeping him on the ground. "Now, now, Lord Tormander." Gin gave a mocking smile. "We're having a trial here, all nice and fair."

"Fair, yeah." Walin growled, the gag at his feet. "You snake-"

"Put the gag back in his mouth." Gin decided. A soldier picked it up and shoved it in Walin's mouth.

"Time for the trial. Who shall argue for prosecution?" Locke asked, stepping out of the witness box.

"I shall argue for prosecution." Gin decided.

"But you're the judge." Lady Eris stated.

"Why yes, I am. So?"

"So that-" Eris began.

"SILENCE IN THE COURT!" Gin bellowed and smacked a hammer against the podium. Eris flinched away from Gin. "ORDER IN THE COURT! YEAH! SOMETHING LIKE THAT!" Lungsly laughed a dead laugh. Gin took a swig out of a goblet. There was gin inside of it. "So, do you want a lawyer for defense?"

Walin struggled against the gag and mumbled something unintelligible. "He has decided to not have a lawyer for defense." Gin noted, ignoring the gag. “First witness!”

Lady Eris stood up and walked to the witness stand.

“I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and only a bit of colorful enhancements.” Eris swore. “Those shoes are hideous.” She glanced briefly at Walin’s shoes, then mock flinched. “They should burn.”

“Walin or the shoes?” Locke asked, lazy.

“Both.” Lady Eris replied.

“Second witness.” Lady Eris returned to where she sat. Lungsly stood up and walked to the stand.

“I can barely-” cough- “stand them. They drove Bad-ger to bring the roof down on himself. I saw it.” Lungsly wheezed.

“I argue for prosecution!” Gin stated. “Those shoes are terrible. What have you say, jury?”

The jury convened for a few minutes to please the Lord Urbain. “What is the judgement?” Gin asked.

“Guilty.” The first said. “Death penalty.”

“Same here.” The second nodded. Walin mumbled.

“Death penalty.”

“Capitol punishment.”

“Death.”

“Death to the shoe offender!”

“Death!” The entire jury agreed.

“So, who shall execute Walin?” Gin mused. “What about… you!” He pointed at the holding room.

“Who?” The audience was confused.

“Neo Tormander.” Gin grinned. “Bring ‘em out.” The Thug was dragged out. “Now, Neo. You are going to kill Walin here quickly or you die.”

“But-but…” The Tormander Thug stumbled over his words. “I-how? Please, no.”

“You forgot the Lord Urbain.” Lady Eris hissed. A guard kicked the Thug in the side. He kept his balance, but barely. His pewter must be on a low burn. Gin thought.

“I’ll let you go if you kill him.” Locke decided. Then he caught Gin’s eyes and winked. No.

“Oh…” Neo looked from Walin to Gin. Then a determined look came over his eye. “I never liked him anyway.” An Urbain soldier offered Neo his sword. Walin closed his eyes. The sword plummeted into his chest. Neo flinched. “Now, are you going to let me go?”

“Of course. I’ll let you go… permanently.” The Soother laughed maniacally. Two other Urbain soldiers grabbed his arm. A third stabbed their sword through his heart. The two corpses were on the ground together.

“Now, for our next trial.” Gin continued as if nothing had happened. “On trial for impersonating an Urbain.”

“Who?” Eris asked, looking around suspiciously.

“Why you, dear Lady Eris EsNaan Hasting. Thank you for rounding yourself and your allies up so nicely. Along with Green Tekiel, and Lungsly Lekal.” An even larger amount of Urbain soldiers ran into the hall. They grabbed the Hasting, Tekiel, Lekal, and Elariel nobles who had came for the show. Eris’s guards grabbed her arms and knocked her to the ground. A man wearing the red and white of Hasting shot a coin into the head of one of the Urbain soldiers securing Eris, but Gin deflected the blow back towards the man. The man crumpled to the ground.

“Traitor.” The Lord Green Tekiel said. A soldier punched him in the gut. “Ow!” Green crashed to the ground.

“You…” Lord Lungsly Lekal began, looking at Locke.

“Don’t even begin. You thought I’d give up such an opportunity to destroy not just one Great House, but five? You underestimate me.” Locke laughed. “You all underestimated me. You will never make such a mistake ever again. You will never make any mistakes ever again.”

“No!” Eris screamed. “I am a noble Hasting! I will not be taken like this!” The Thug elbowed her captors. She burned pewter and yanked the sword out of one of her guard’s hands. Eris brought down four guards before a coin took her in the shoulder. She shrugged off the wound and kept fighting. Another coin hit the other shoulder. Gin yawned.

“Give up.” Gin suggested. “It’ll be easier.” Eris stumbled as a third coin pierced her side. She collapsed onto the ground, her atium spilling out of her pocket. The guards picked it out. Eris screamed once in defiance, blood seeping through her red dress. Gin picked another coin out of his hidden pouch. The gemstones on his rings shimmered in the light. There were orange, blue, and purple stones.

Locke burned brass, Soothing the panic of all of the people. Eris Hasting’s breathing slowed. Lungsly tried to get away as well, but a coin hit him in his head. He collapsed, a disgusting mixture of brains, blood, and general disgustingness spilt on the floor. Locke cleaned off of his suit. It was a deep, regal, blue. Lekal pink does not look good with blood.

“I expect this mess cleaned up right away.” Locke told the servants, who looked on mutely. “Well? What are you waiting for?” The skaa scurried away. Green stared at Gin.

“Wow.” Green sighed. “I thought you were above this, Gin.”

“I’m above everyone now.” Gin smirked. “Except, perhaps, Locke.”

“I hope you enjoy the dungeons, Green.” Locke told the Tekiel. Urbain soldiers escorted the House Lord away. The other nobles were just stabbed straight out by Urbain soldiers. Two soldiers pulled Eris between them. She was breathing, if slowly. That was good. Hasting secrets would be pulled out of her. “Now, time for the party.”

“And you know what they say about Urbains, right?” Gin grinned.

“We can party like nobody else.” Locke finished. “So, everyone outside! Unless you’re dead! Then don’t go outside!”

The rest of House Urbains that were mixed among the audience walked into the courtyard. There was a band playing and skaa carrying wine glasses everywhere. There was even a petting zoo. WonKo, as a blob was sitting in an enclosure. He seemed annoyed, though they couldn’t really tell.

“Take these!” An Urbain hefted the remains of one of the Hastings into the kandra’s enclosure. He began to form a body, though it was slowly.

Many Urbains got drunk. Gin in particular. It was a good night.

Years later, the Urbain Ball was one of the best ever. At least, among Urbains. Few Hastings, Lekals, Tekiels, Ventures, or any member of the minor houses who had been there agreed.

We probably would have won if it hadn't been for Gamma  <_<  and his extra kill action so nice betrayal, I guess. It really shook things up. You da real MVP (for the spies, that is. I'm still really mad about it)

The size of the Spy House also helped. They were larger than the minor houses, which means they had more access to Atium than anyone else, which (combined with the consistent kill actions, another source of Atium,) means they monopolized the items. What we really needed to do, I suppose, was put all of our trust, and our Atium, into a single villager (we would have had about a 4/5 chance of being right, statistically speaking.) Atium turned out to much more powerful of a commodity than I had assumed, since it could buy votes in addition to kill actions. That plan was our biggest hope, on the long run (besides having our Coinshots target people they suspected instead of people they knew were villagers!)
