Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game

Recommended Posts

Erik helped Leas carry Ralv's corpse over to the long burial trench, and set the body down respectfully on the edge of the piled earth that covered Grimlar al'Pil and the others who had died before. Bunnt and Newan stepped up beside them to lower Lam's body next to Ralv.

With all the deaths, they had decided against individual graves. The occupants of the filled end of the trench were marked with upright boards, the only material readily available. Erik stretched his old back a little before settling down with a board and a small chisel.

Leas sat beside him, taking up another board. "I'll take care of Lam. Bunnt. Newan. Start shoveling."

Do line breaks really matter? =)

I would like to thank Awesomeness Summoned for the fantastic post during the night cycle.  You did say that Aonar was verified on the first night, but wouldn't the forsaken have come up as a regular villager on the first night?  Also, Khamsi could be the forsaken.  If somebody else was their channeler, they still could have cast their Mask of the Mirrors onto him.

Council that is Not a Council, did we gain any new information last night?  If we can kill the forsaken today, we could still win.  (Technically we could still win if we kill the forsaken tomorrow, but that's less likely.)

At this point, I think we should present all evidence for and against everyone.  I'll start by defending myself.  Somebody else, please present anything that sheds a bad light on me, and then proceed to defend yourself.  If anybody has anything to add about anyone, feel free.

Evidence 1: I have no power.

I've been telling Awesomeness who I have been dragon fanging, so he knows that I have the ability to draw the Dragon Fang.  This doesn't mean I'm not dark chocolate, but it does mean I am not the Forsaken.

Evidence 2: I've been too offensive.

Rather than avoiding suspicion by only posting RP with the occasional tip here and there, I have been constantly discussing.  My crazy rampage on day 1 and my pursuit of Khamsi are examples of this, though I have said a lot of stuff all along the way.  Witless and Awesomeness could probably both agree that I didn't sound like a darkfriend in my PMs with them.  (Maybe a little bipolar with the "I trust you... wait no I don't! Wait yes I do, but not insidious."

Ok now somebody else's turn!

edit: color, duh.

I also questioned the verification of Aonar when I was invited to join the counsel, and I was provided sufficient evidence to convince me that he was not a Darkfriend. Being a conscientious player, I will not publicize his role. He may choose that for himself.

My evidence of my trustworthiness is primarily based on my counsel position, as the others spent a great deal of time on trying to establish who was safe. I am basically as trustworthy as the other three members are. If you wish to throw us all out, you may, but all of us being Darkfriends would be a very unlikely scenario.

Goodness Jerric. I just finished decoding the last bunch. :P

This is in response to the last couple, if what you just wrote changes anything, well I'll respond after I decode it.

Malai and the two Viewers (well, one really, seeing how Trimat's most likely a fake) all verified me, so I really have nothing to say about myself, other than give out my role, which almost everyone knows anyway. :P The DFs know, and the trusted players know, so the only people who don't are are Douza and Newan, I believe. I'm a Regular Villager. No powers for me.

So, where do we stand? We can still communicate privately (sort of), we've confirmed all four DFs (sort of) and now we (almost) have enough info that the villagers are guaranteed a win. That's not bad. We know the Forsaken must be Trimat or Bunnt. One will be Forsaken, the other will be vanilla. We just have to figure out who's who. My personal bet is on Bunnt, because even an inactive Forsaken is better than a dead one for team evil.

Edit, in response to Jerric:

Witless wanted to sleep for a week. Yet at the same time, he never wanted to sleep again. He was exhausted from all the planning the last few days, and he hadn’t slept at all the night before, despite tossing and turning all night long. The woods were a mess, but he knew that wasn’t it. It was the dream he’d had the night before last. A strange animal had appeared in it, and it looked vaguely like the creature that traveller, Jain, had always been talking about. Witless had never gotten close enough to see the toy the man carried with him, but what had appeared in his dream looked like the same thing--a panda. And it had terrified him.

The panda had followed him, watched him, and smiled the entire time. And while that was bad enough, right before Witless woke, he swore he heard the thing mutter, “I’m coming for you.” Since then, the woods just didn’t feel right. It was like there was something else out there, watching the town, waiting. Something evil. Something Witless didn’t want anything to do with. But he hadn’t seen anything out in the woods, and the Dark One take him if he was going to be scared away from the only place he felt like he really belonged. Courage notwithstanding, Witless still couldn’t bring himself to relax enough to sleep.

Morning hadn’t come fast enough for Witless, and he’d hurried the short distance back into town, hearing a scream just as he passed the smithy. He watched Erik and some of the others dispose of Ralv and Lam’s bodies in the mass grave, and he sank down to the ground, buried his head in his hands, and just wished for this whole mess to be over, for the Dark Friends to be gone, and to have his old life back--the one before his neighbors died every day.

I’ve been a lot more active and open in this game than I was in either of the previous games I was on Team Evil. There’s always the possibility that I could be trying something different, but trust me: if I were evil, Ralv would’ve died two nights ago; the night he told me who he was and who else he had told. I would’ve killed both of them, PM’s would’ve been down much earlier, and the only person who could reveal me (assuming Ralv didn’t tell someone else as well) would be dead as well.

I realize that’s not the best defense, but it’s really the best I’ve got. I haven’t been Viewed.

Alrighty then. We're at a crossroads, it seems. We have almost enough info to do something decisive. The last bit of info we need belongs to our Viewer, whom we can no longer contact privately. As such, we've decided that making the Viewer public is worth the info they have. So, Viewer, could you please tell us your results?

Leas sighed, rubbing his eyes as he tried to focus on the mess of papers spread out on his table. He was tired already after burying Ralv and Lam, and he hadn't gotten near enough sleep last night. Everything seemed to point at either Trimat or Bunnt as the leader of the Darkfriends. He just needed to know which.

He pushed his chair back from the table and stood, feeling all his muscles protesting the effort. His table was a ruin, dozens of lines and words carved in to it, connecting twenty-five pieces of paper; one for each person who had stayed behind to protect Drell's Crossing. Four of those names were connected to more people than anyone else. And one name connected all four of those: Trimat, the manure seller. He was the lynchpin, reinforcing the connection between Dellan and Khamsi, and connecting Bunnt to the rest of the group; explaining Kaim's death and how Trimat was able to fake being a Viewer.

Seeing how Khamsi had demonstrated the powers of a Channeller, despite claiming otherwise, and Dellan was the only person who could have been responsible for the deaths of Malai and Senna, Leas thought it fairly damning evidence. Unfortunately, the one thing his analysis couldn't predict was who the Forsaken was, the original murderer of Mayor Twim.

Hopefully the real Viewer doesn't take too long to report their findings. If Trimat is one of the Forsaken, then he won't be able to hide.

I actually do have a diagram similar to the one I've described here (on my computer, not scratched into my table :P). It's been rather useful. I'm thinking it's going to become something I make for every game form here on out.

A good part of our evidence is mentioned in this RP, though not outlined in great detail. We know (or really hope we know, anyway) that Trimat, Khamsi, Bunnt and Dellan are DFs. We just need to figure out which is which. If anyone has any input on that, it would be much appreciated.

I am a regular villager.

I have been using my fang. And reported about it.

I do not know what else to say about this, I have no proof no, and I am sad that I cannot provide it. But if you think that I am the Forsaken, you are sadly mistaken!

Is there info about Khamsi that hasn't been made public/that I've missed? To my knowledge, we've only definitely seen a water weave on her - which just means the DF have a chaneller, not that it's her.

Since I wasn't on the suspect list of night 4, I'm guessing my fang votes have checked out. I haven't been as active in PMs as most players, so there's not that much I can offer in sorting out the DF. But they were willing to sacrifice Trimat to the lynch last cycle, so I'd say his role is one that's no longer useful (ie not Forsaken).

I've had people telling me Khasmi is the DF Channeler, so I researched it and now I believe that they are right. Except now we are looking for the Forsaken. I have no clue who  the Forsaken is, but Trimat hasn't come on since he said he was going to camp, so it might be safer to lynch Binnut (sorry Binnut). Anyways that's my two cents. One of them of course being a talking lucky penny  ;) (Hopefully someone got my reference) -W

Witless did say that she knew who the dreamwalker was and didn't know whether he was good or bad.

Witless told me that she was part of the verified group a few days ago to get me off her case.

Also, she helped Khamsi lynch Bela, defended him in the PMs, and then saved his butt from the lynch yesterday. I hope we're not just going to forget about that.

I said I was part of Wes' verified group, but I also said that I myself hadn't been Viewed. I gave the same reasonings to you for my innocence that I did earlier in this thread, so I'm not sure what kind of deceit you're trying to hint at for me. Fact is, if I were evil, Ralv would've died days ago, and I'm not sure why the DF's didn't kill him then. Ralv told both me and Khamsi at the same time, so they knew.

As for the stuff about me and Khamsi....Shiv is very persuasive. I knew from Game 2 that he was very intelligent but he died that same day, and even if he hadn't, I was evil so I wouldn't have been in communication with him anyway. This is the first game he's played since then, and he was one of the people I most wanted to hear back from when I sent the PMs that first night, because I remembered the logical arguments from Game 2. I figured he'd be a great asset to the villager side. And while the evidence built up against him, I stayed in contact with him, and he seemed just as confused as we all were about what was going on. It looked to me that he was being set up. So yes. I defended him in the PM group. I didn't want us to fall for another trap. However, it's now painfully obvious to me that I should've listened to the evidence rather than to the highly intelligent player who clearly knows how to subtly manipulate and persuade people. That's a mistake I won't be making with him again.

Well then. I guess our decision has been made, though with far less certainty than I would like. I know you don't want to come forward, but that really doesn't tell us much. :P

Leas sat and listened to the Viewer's report. It was halting and not overly clear, but that was understandable seeing how circumstance had forced them to give their findings somewhere where anyone could be listening in. It seemed as if Trimat wasn't a Viewer or the Forsaken, although he couldn't be certain from the Viewer's rather cryptic responses.

Bunnt it was then. At this point, the knowledge gave him little joy. Too many friends had died for that. He found himself almost constantly immersed in the Void just to continue functioning.

There was nothing left to do but go out, present his evidence, and hope to the Creator that he was right.

So, on to that presenting of evidence. As I have no idea how you'd go about trying to transfer something like my diagram to this site, I'm just going to make a List.

Let's start with Trimat, out first real suspect. (These are all connected, so some of the evidence for Trimat may tie in to evidence for Bunnt, Khamsi or Dellan, and vice versa)

  • Near the beginning of the game, Kaim, Bunnt and Gade were in a PM group. After Gade's death, they invited Trimat. Due to Trimat's inconsistent behaviour in the conversation, Kaim became suspicious of him, and shared his suspicions with Wilson, Wes, Bunnt and myself. Kaim died the following night, suggesting that one of those four were Darkfriends along with Trimat.
  • As the game continued, Trimat's behaviour remained erratic, eventually leading to him being accused. He proceeded to tell Rishi, Wilson and I that he was a Viewer and had Viewed Kaim and I. However, neither of these Viewings could be confirmed, as Kaim was dead, and several suspicious people knew my role at this point.
  • When Khamsi was called out, he claimed that Trimat had Viewed him, rather than Kaim. Trimat corroborated, saying that he had Viewed Khamsi, Sprell and myself, but, once again, none of these could be confirmed.

Our second suspect is Khamsi:

  • Khamsi was one of the very last people to reveal her role to one of the Council members. She never did reveal that she knew of Dellan's role as Wisdom, or Trimat's claimed role as Viewer, despite how crucial those roles are if they are on the good side.
  • On Night Three, Khamsi was Viewed by a trusted Viewer as "unsuccessful," and despite being attacked by Senna, no mention was made of it in the write-up. This would only be possible if she were targeted by a Channeller's Water weave on that night. As Wes Fireballed Sprell that night, we know it could not have been him. Khamsi's claimed role is Aiel-Blooded, a role that isn't important enough to garner immediate suspicion, and one that can be easily faked by a Channeller with Earth.

The most certain suspect is Dellan:

  • When pressured, Dellan claimed to have revealed his role to Khamsi, who is already suspicious for the above reasons.
  • Later, when Khamsi had come under suspicion, I asked him his role and he requested verification that I was proven innocent. I game him six names, six players who could say without a doubt that I have the role I claim. Two of those people, Malai and Senna, died the following night. While others knew of their roles, Dellan was the only player to find out in the right time-frame for the kills.

The final, most tenuous, but potentially most dangerous suspect is Bunnt. He is only really suspicious because of how others have acted. Kaim's death, and Trimat's ability to claim to be a Viewer, both hinge on information that only Bunnt was privy to.

  • As I have already mentioned, Kaim became suspicious of Trimat quite early in the game. He shared these suspicions with Bunnt, Wilson Wes and I. Bunnt was most likely unaware of who Kaim had contacted, so killing Kaim to quiet him before Trimat came under fire would have been logical.
  • Trimat theoretically Viewed Khamsi, Sprell and I, and also once claimed to have Viewed Kaim. Only one of those results can't be explained by his nature as a Darkfriend. Since then, he hasn't bothered reporting Viewing results, so I feel it safe to assume that he isn't really a Viewer. Now, there are three people who could have given Trimat my role. Wes, Wilson and Bunnt. Wes has been proven an innocent. Wilson, although unproven, is unlikely a Darkfriend. That leaves Bunnt.

So, yeah. There it is. All our reasoning, laid out in a reasonable amount of depth. I'll allow you to make your own decisions from here, but the Forsaken is unlikely to be Dellan or Khamsi, but quite likely to be Bunnt or Trimat. I feel more confident in Bunnt, myself.

Edit: Vote List:

Khamsi (1): Dragon's Fang

Bunnt (2): Nath, Leas

Edit 2: You are free to defend yourselves, you know. ;) You're not helping your case by staying silent.

I agree, I would like to hear more from the people being challenged. But tomorrow being the holiday it is around here, I will be out for family time in the morning and will only maybe get the chance to read more than this. But I think that Leas and Nath have made about the best decision possible given the facts and reasoning presented here. Bunnt will need to be voted out this time, unless he has some really solid evidence of his innocence.

I would write a really long post defending myself if I thought I had anything to write that would change your mind. You are simply wrong, but I cannot produce any proof of that.

No Eric, I have no solid proof of my innocence, and I would have provided it when I first got to know that you suspected me, and probably earlier than that. Proof of things is hard to get in this game, and is part of what makes the game what it is.

But me not having a proof do not change the truth.

I do not think this post will save me from a lynch, I feel that you have your mind set. (And codes I guess)

So I just want to thank you for a nice game! Especially the people who have (even when suspecting me) provided me with tips on how to play this game in a god way. You know who you are, Thank you!

On a side note:

Aonar, that first PM. That PM was done after my idea in PM with Gade, and Kas. But we removed the mention of we since they did not think it prudent to tell people that we were in a PM. Just thought it nice to tell you that I wasn't alone making it.

Personally I would feel a lot better going after Trimat, but it's getting very late in the day, with only a little over an hour left. However, with only 2 votes out there right now that's still enough time for the DFs to pull a small upset to save one of their skins for another day. I vote Bunnt.

Since you obviously are failing to lynch the Forsaken. I have lost faith in the one who is supposed to lead to victory.

I move for a vote of no confidence on Weas leadership!

And I put my vote on Douza.

I'd type up an RP for this, but it's been a busy week for me. RP post coming soon, though, for anyone who enjoys the wacky antics of Khamsi Zareef, Domani Gleewoman!

So, let's throw a lynch vote at Nath!

And for funsies, Khamsi for mayor! I promise, my second administration will NOT be plagued by the problems of the first!

Night 5: Celebrations

The holiday of Bel Tine usually brought with it joy and festivities, when children could laugh and play in the Town Greens, young women would dance around the ribbon pole, and peddlers would bring tales of glee and fireworks to be launched into the night sky, amazing and dazzling the villagers with their magnificent displays. But the village of Drell's Crossing was in no state for celebrations, and the town square lay empty and silent, filled with the wreckage and debris that had built up in the town, the silence occasionally broken by the caws of crows as they gorged on the dead that lay in the streets.

No. There was no happiness or celebrations in the village. Instead, there was the grim determination that the villagers had settled into, hoping beyond hope, trying to rid their town of the infestation of evil that had plagued them recently. The citizens of Drell's Crossing didn't know why the Shadow had chosen them to torment, but they would show they would not lie down meekly and let the Dark One win without a fight.

Mayor Waes strode up through the village green, a solemn expression on his face as he visibly tried to ignore the taint of madness he was suffering from as a result of his work with Saidin. The fact that a male channeler was their leader was a sign of how desperate the villagers were seek out and destroy the shadow with.

At first Waes thought it had just been his madness when the other villagers began speaking to him in strange tongues, making weird, guttural noises that sounded like long strings of numbers when they opened to mouths to talk, but he realized with horror that he could understand what was being said and respond in kind as well!

Once the villagers realized what was going on, they were visibly shaken, but undeterred in their mission to hunt down a servant of evil, and with the setting sun, Bunnt was called up to the front of the crowd.

Despite a quiet persistence that they had gotten the wrong man, the quiet farmer resigned to his fate and without a struggle let his neck be fitted for the noose. He lowered his head and quiet sobbing sounds could be heard.

Waes had tightened the noose and was getting ready to pull the lever when Bunnt suddenly tossed his head back and everybody realized with horror that he wasn't sobbing, but laughing!

"You fools! You think this is a victory, but I have watched as you have torn yourselves apart in your feeble attempts to find me! This noose, and all of you, have more blood on your hands than I do! Now watch! I may die, and you may feel a small, fleeting feeling of pride swelling up within you, but know that it is a hollow victory! Now go! Hide back in your homes and cower in fear, waiting for the Darkness to strike." He raised his hands up into the air and let out an insane, maniacal laugh.

"And then, shall the Lord of the Evening come. And He shall take our eyes, for our souls shall bow before Him, and He shall take our skin, for our flesh shall serve Him, and He shall take our lips, for only Him will we praise. And the Lord of the Evening shall face the Broken Champion, and shall spill his blood and bring us the Darkness so beautiful. Let the screams begin, O followers of the Shadow. Beg for your destruction!"

With a yank of the lever, the floor dropped out beneath Bunnt and with a grunt he fell through the hole and his neck snapped with a sudden, final crunch.

Blight. Almost! :P We're probably all dead now, but at least we were partially right.

Anyway, nice write up Gamma.

So, Trimat, Dellan or Khamsi, any of you feel like telling us which one of you is the Forsaken?
