Can a Soulstamp be used to make someone an Elantrian?

Recommended Posts

Alrighty, so I was reading through the theories section and had a thought:

Since Soulstamps re-write a person's past Connections or "soul," would it be possible for a Forger to create a stamp that turns them into an Elantrian?

I know there are a few implications of this, but could it be possible? If the Forger was making it for a Teo, for example, would the stamp writing be easier than, say, for a Dula? Or would it not matter, as the Soulstamp completely re-writes a person's past? And would the Shaod take the person, and become permanent? Or would they revert back to their normal human state?

Dunno just thought this was an interesting idea :P

That's possible, but hard to do, WoB?

Questioner (paraphrased)

Could Shai Soul Forge herself into becoming an Elantrian?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

That would be really hard. First of all, she'd have to change where she's born, then Soul Forge the fact that she became an Elantrian. Even then, she'd probably look like an Elantrian, but not have any powers. There would probably need to be some kind of bridge, or she would need some kind of super push from AonDor to make it work.

But if you just Forge your connection to Arelon and be waiting for the Shaod to take you, it won't work like that, WoB:

Questioner

If you Soulstamp somebody to give them a Connection to Arelon, and they became an Elantrian, could they become and Elantrian, and if the Soulstamp is removed, would they remain?

Brandon Sanderson

Okay, so you're asking a better one than people have asked. So you say "You get Soulstamped, you move to Arelon, your soul thinks that it is this, you do have spiritweb of Connection" I will go ahead and RAFO this with the caveat of why it might not work, is because, you might think you’re something, right? That doesn't necessarily mean-- Like, this is not completely invisible and things like this. And so, whether the power is going to follow those lines of Connection or not I will leave up to discussion, but it is a possibility worth theorizing upon.

Questioner

So a Soulstamp doesn't necessarily change the core of your spiritweb.

Brandon Sanderson

It does, but it's overwriting it. It's like Hemalurgy. What you are is still there underneath when it's ripped away, right?

Arcanum Unbounded Chicago signing (Dec. 6, 2016)

If you Forge yourself to be Elantrian, the more believable past you make, the easier it is for a Soulstamp to be accepted, and the longer it will last. But you would still need to reapply it from time to time, just like regular Soulstamps work.

Ah, I see. Thank you! That clears up a few things, now :D
