Notes for a story I want to write

I really just want to ramble about my story I have no motivation to write.

Spoiler

Backstories & notes for "Tales of Ekarin"

Maddison & Miriam Hunter:

When they were around seven, their parents' merchant trading ship was raided by pirates. Their parents thought that it would be safe to hide their daughters inside of barrels. Little did they know that after they surrendered, the pirates would take with them most of the cargo on the ship, which included the barrels that the two girls were hiding in. However when they were discovered, the crewmember who had found them was sympathetic enough, (and the crew had no idea what to do with children), to let them off the ship at the nearest port. For the next five years they lived at an orphanage in the town near the port. By the time that they turned thirteen, Maddison had gotten a job helping load and unload cargo. She was loading cargo onto a ship when she suddenly passed out from heat exhaustion (where the story starts).

A few months after this happens, Miriam is adopted by a kind, old, witch, called “Aunty Jane” who makes Miriam one of her apprentices, the other being Castellan, a half-elf who is about the same age as Miriam. The two apprentices quickly become very good friends. Until one day,(when they were 14-15 ish) a spell goes wrong and the dark spirit that is released, then possesses Miriam.

However, a couple weeks after Miriam gets taken in by Jane, Maddison returns, (on one of the ship’s monthly stops to get needed cargo) to get her sister, but finds that she is gone and nobody can tell her where Miriam could be.

Other notes for Maiddson & Miriam:

-Miriam and Castellan were extremely close.

- Maddison later becomes the captain of The Silver Iris.

- Maddison’s nickname is Maddie.

Keith Guerrero:

(geh-REH-ro)

Keith’s parents were both humble forest elves. When he was around four, something killed them when they were out gathering food, all he has left of them is his mother’s pendant. After living with his aunt for a couple years he found work on a pirate ship with Captain Teloma, where he also met Maddison. After a few more years he tells Teloma that he wants to become a knight (he was 14 at the time), she(and the rest of his friends on board) supported him, and found him a way to go to a training camp. It usually took people six years to be knighted, but Keith did it in two (He was already a great fighter from living as a pirate for three years). A short time prior to being knighted, he got his first assignment at the castle of Partem (pear-t-um). Where he learns that his real assignment is to accompany the crown prince on the “Quest of the Worthy”.

Other notes for Keith:

  • He’s a year older than Maddison

  • 11 when he joined Teloma’s crew

Elliot Arany (aw-rawn):

Elliot is the crown prince of Partem, but he never acts like one. He always loved to be out in nature, and riding horses was the closest thing he did to being a “proper prince”. In Partem, it is tradition for the heir to go on a perilous quest to.. prove themselves worthy, it is also tradition to bring a companion on this quest. This companion is usually the heir’s partner or sibling, but Elliot doesn’t want to endanger his sister, Tara, so his parents seek out the best knight in all of Ekarin. Keith turns out to be the best option…

Other notes for Elliot:

  • He will be forced to marry a princess that he’s never met unless he finds someone else before the end of the ball (which happens after he comes back from the quest.)[Ya’ know just your typical fairytale stuff]

Olivia (Liv) Seaver:

She comes from a large, peaceful family (12 kids in the house including cousins), who live on the island of Dacall. Her aunt Teloma is a pirate captain and one year on her annual visit to the island she offers to give Olivia a job on her ship, after a while her parents reluctantly agree. The only problem is that Olivia isn’t the best swimmer, but Teloma gives her a short lesson at any beach that they come across. She not only has great skill with her daggers, but has trained herself in healing since she was nine.

Other notes for Olivia (Liv):

  • She is usually really sweet and kind but could also easily kill you at any given moment.  <3

Castellan Hino (knee-no):

They never knew their parents, and had lived in an orphanage almost their entire life. Then a strange woman adopted them, and made Castellan her apprentice. The woman was called “Aunty” Jane, she was a very skilled witch from Partem. After a couple months Aunty Jane adopted another apprentice, Miriam. Castellan and Miriam became very close. While doing a very powerful, and complicated spell to capture a dark spirit, they tripped and knocked some of the remaining ingredients into the cauldron all at once, messing up the spell and releasing the spirit. There was an explosion of dark smoke, then all at once the smoke dissipated and the whites of Miriam’s eyes had turned absolute black. She walked over and lightly tapped Castellan’s head, then they slipped into unconsciousness. After that day they vowed to find and cure Miriam, and not stop until they do.

Other notes for Castellan (Cas):

  • They have a pet rat named Joey, who always has a tiny jack o'lantern on his head, and sits on their shoulder most of the time.

  • They are really good at cooking and baking.

Magical plants/creatures

Groki (grow-key)

Individual

The furry, goblin-like creature, who is hundreds of years old, lives in the remains of a cabin along the path of “The Quest of the Worthy”.

Physical description: short grey fur, large horns, large pointed ears, big beady eyes, sharp wolf-like teeth, giant paws with large-retractable claws, and a rat-like tail. (With the personality of a toddler)

Lunar Cotton

Plant species

A type of cotton that can only be properly harvested during a full moon and can only be properly planted during a lunar eclipse. The cotton is a glittering sky blue, and the leaves and stalks are a dark indigo. Almost every part of this plant can be used in spells and potions, and the stems and leaves are edible.

Taraulok (tara-loo-k)

Animal species

Large, feathered dragon-like creatures. They live in the northern peaks of Partem. They have four eyes, large wings, brightly colored feathers, and walk on all fours. They are moderately peaceful, unless you provoke them or approach their chicks.

Cyrolean (ky-row-leen)

Animal species

They are usually pale blue or aqua, with a light teal or blue-green ruff. They are found in cool lakes and rivers, and raise their young in nearby ponds and streams. Adults are usually about 2-3 feet tall, while the chicks start out at about half a foot. They eat algae and insects. The eggs are navy blue with a spray of silver and white specks.

Solar cacti

Plant species

This plant usually grows on mountains and cliffs. It is bright red, but only when it’s ready to be picked, before it is ready it is usually a bright orange or yellow. It resembles an aloe vera plant (other than the color), but with larger spikes. It can be dried and used in spices and potions, and the gooey substance inside can also be used in potions or be used in medicine.

Fropple

Animal species

Fropples are usually found in dense swamps, living in large, family-based, groups. They resemble a bullfrog with one large eye in the middle of its head, and a shell and antennae like a snail. Their size ranges from the size of a small treefrog to about 9 inches tall.

Meerabee

Animal species

About the size of a regular meerkat, they are a golden color with dark brown stripes on their back, large bee-like eyes and long antennae, they also have six legs, and are very fuzzy. Meerabees tend to live in colonies of about 30-400 of them per hive which can be up to 10 feet tall. While the hives are located in forests, they aren’t built on trees, they are built up in clearings because of how large they get (similar to termite mounds). Meerabees drink nectar, and they eat insects. They also pollinate larger plants.

Spkazum (spa-kaz-um)

Animal species

The spkazum is a domestic animal that is raised for its thick fur, it is cut and used to make textiles and rugs. Its face resembles that of an opossum’s, and has 10 eyes (5 on each side of its head.) It has a long tail with a little tuft of fur at the end of it. Its\fur is typically a shade of grey or brown. It is an omnivore (it’ll eat anything).

“The Dark spirit”

Individual

No record of where it came from, but we do know that it possesses a victim, and will find their destructive emotions (anger, vengeance, etc.) and amplify them to the point where the victim loses all other feelings and becomes a being of pure evil. However, if the spirit can be prevented from possessing the victim any longer,(with the right spell) it can be taken out of the victim’s mind to be captured and destroyed.

Glass Daisies

Plant species

They are rare flowers that look and sound like they are made of glass, but are actually quite tough and flexible. They are used in potions and medicine.

Races of Ekarin

*Side note: Elves and humans have lived peacefully together for hundreds of years, but the leaders of Ekarin (about 150 years ago) thought that the other races would disrupt that peace, so they banished them out of the kingdoms, to the Shadow fields and Eclipse Woods. This story has been passed down and is now told to children as a heroic story of justice.

Humans

Just humans being humans. They live alongside the Elves but typically don’t like any other race. (Half-elves are still discriminated against, though it doesn’t happen often)

Elves

Live alongside humans. Normally taller than humans, though not by much. Most have a natural hair color, but some (like Olivia) are born with pure white hair.

Goyles

Their skin resembles various kinds of rock, and sometimes some look like they are crafted from crystal. They have 2 or 3 small horns on their head. Goyles can usually range from 3-5 feet tall. They also have claws perfect for digging. Their eyes can see in the dark for when they are traveling in dark tunnels. They live in large underground cities, the buildings are constructed from anything they can find under the surface (stones, jewels, and even tree roots).

Goblins

Small creatures with large, beady eyes. Their ears are quite large as well. They can be as tall as 3 feet, but are very fast and nimble for their small size. They typically live in hollowed out trees, which can range from a simple 1 goblin stump, to a gigantic 40 goblin village.

Forest tribes (Whodimy tribe is most well known)

They look mainly humanoid, but have some animal-like (mainly mammals) characteristics--sort of like a satyr or a centaur, but not just with goats and horses. (Dogs, cats, goats, horses, mice, rabbits, deer, bears, wolves, etc.) There have been some people with spider-like and snake-like attributes.

Avasi (a-va-see)

Humanoids with large feathered wings sprouting from their backs. These wings look like the wings of many species of bird. Their nails are usually long, dark, and sharp, like talons. They live in villages that are built into cliff faces, made up of many homes and platforms, they also have aqueducts running through the villages.

Sierens

Look like the guys from Luca. Not much known about them, they are very secretive
