Could a Vessel "survive" by self-Splintering?

So, I just thought of this idea, but would it be possible for a Vessel to hit an "eject" lever and avoid being completely destroyed by another Shard? We know that it's possible for a Shard to Splinter themselves, Honor did this to create the Honorblades, and possibly the spren. My question is: Would it be possible for a Vessel to Splinter their own Shard, and create a Cognitive Shadow of their own consciousness? Could Tanavast have been able to do this? He knew Rayse wanted to Splinter him, he didn't suffer from any debilitating mental issues like Leras, and had a large portion of his power available to him. While this would be a rather cowardly way to go, it would prevent them from losing their consciousness and going to the Beyond, which presumably happened to Tanavast, Leras, Ati, Aona (Devotion), Skai (Dominion), and Uli Da (Ambition).

I think it would work, but they'd likely have to be very crafty about it to prevent Odium from noticing. Honor and Ambition might not be able to mange it due to conflicts with their intents

We know from Mistborn Secret History that having held a Shard allows someone to persist indefinitely as a Cognitive Shadow, and we know that a living/intact Shard can voluntarily create Splinters (in addition to pre-Honor-death honorspren, Divine Breaths are also Splinters of a living Shard voluntarily created).

But I don't think it would help vs. Odium - if he can kill a whole Shard he can surely kill a Cognitive Shadow.

It was suggested that he was having mental issues during the end. He was described as raving and obsessed with oaths.

Also, I actually don't think Tanavast did go Beyond - he did leave a Cognitive Shadow which somehow merged with the Stormfather.

Presumably yes.  Per WOB they can Retire, so unless that process is prohibitively long or difficult, they could probably run off and let Odium (and/or Whomever was helping) Shatter and disperse the Shardic power (or stuff it in Shadesmar, etc).  What form that might leave then in by default is still up in the air.

I am wondering if it is possible for a person to take the power of a Shard and then later decide the whole god thing isn't working out. Can they retire and go back to being a person? Or are they immediately sent to the Beyond?

It is possible that they could retire as a person. Wouldn't be the first thing that would happen.
