So I had this theory just pop into my head as I was reading and it basically is this:

Will Syl eventually choose to be enlightened by Sja-anat to better understand emotion?  So far all the spren of Roshar have been of Honor and Cultivation and recently, some, touched by Odium.  Odium is described as passion and emotion so it makes sense that his power would help sapient spren to better understand emotion, especially in humans.  Syl has expressed a desire to better understand Kaladin and his emotions, even going to Dalinar for help.  Would not then, she go to Sja-anat to become more than just of Honor and Cultivation? Maybe even Odium?  We know that Odium is not going anywhere now and that he is now a part of Roshar so would it be wrong to assume that spren will start being influenced by his power? What are your guys thoughts on this? Am I completely wrong?

It's probably not impossible mechanically (we've seen an enlightened Radiant spren already) but I have a hard time seeing Syl choosing to do this. It would be as close to a deal with the devil as anyone on Roshar could think of, and Odium has been at war with Syl and everyone she's aligned with for millennia. And Kaladin has been resisting Odium and what he stands for directly.

There would have to be a fantastic benefit available for her to even think of doing such a thing, and it's not clear that better understanding of emotion is even on offer. Glys doesn't seem to have much better understanding of human emotion, from the brief times we see him on screen (though that's little enough that we don't have much to go on there). And the main way for Radiant-capable spren to expand their capacity in the Physical Realm has so far been stronger bonds through oaths; it's not clear that you can get around that. Try to imagine Syl having a better understanding of emotions when she was all but mindless back when Kaladin was in the slave carts... what would that even be like? Would she have the mental ability to understand his emotions?

All that said, we know very little about enlightenment. It doesn't seem to make spren all that different moment to moment (except for Glys, whose powers are very different from previous Truthwatcher sprens'). It doesn't seem to be quite a direct line to Odium, and we've never seen him influence a spren that way. Virtually all of the spren associated with him are spren borne directly from his nature, not just spren of Honor and/or Cultivation who have been influenced by him. A concern some spren have is that, if Odium wins the war, they might be destroyed and replaced (or just supplanted) by his voidspren. Whatever Sja-anat is doing seems relatively rare, and possibly fairly new. Odium himself has been on Roshar for thousands of years, and his influence has already permeated a lot-- if he could just influence spren so strongly, why hasn't he already? Or, alternatively, has he been doing that?

Anyways, I think you're on to something. What we've seen of Renarin and Glys, and Mraize and his enlightened spren, is going to be replicated by others. There will be lots of political, practical, and desperate reasons for people and spren to seek out new options, and I bet that quite a few will opt for enlightenment for their own reasons. But I don't think Syl will be one of them. One of the themes surrounding the Radiants is that there aren't good shortcuts.

It's an interesting thought, but the way Syl reacted to just Odium's name doesn't make this seem likely.

Yeah. I think Cultivation leaning spren's mindsets and ideals are likely to be more open to this; Syl imo definitely wouldn't be.

Mistspren might be especially likely to be willing because they want to explore new truths or something? I don't know.

I don't know if this would be good for Kaladin. He already had (or has) that weird Connection to Odium, enough that his eyes glowed with his colors at the end of RoW. If not for that, I would be totally cool with this.

Diving into a rabbit hole here, how would the Surge Adhesion respond to being Enlightened? It's supposed to be Honor's truest Surge, whatever that means. Would it just change, like Renarin's weirdness with Illumination, or would it vanish completely?

If that happened , kaladin might have access to three surges. The additional surge probably being Division.

Brando kinda rafoed this but see Regals are connected to odium alone and have only one surge , while radiants are connected to two shards and have 2 surges. So being enlightened by sja anat might give u three surges. Anti clockwise Surges are  discovered by the radiants first so maybe that's y renarin hasn't discovered he can use transformation yet

Would be great to see kal use division but i think it's unlikely. The enlightenment process is very difficult for spren and  probably impossible for a spren that has already bonded someone

So that means Renarin might have access to three Surges?

So if he can use Regrowth and (kind of) Illumination, does that mean his third Surge is seeing the future? I always thought that was some kind of Voidbinding weirdness
