If I understand correctly Tani target-scanned Baker last cycle and came up with nothing. And one Fjordell scanner scanned another Fjordell player and came up empty?

Tani scanned Baker last night (Day? :P), came up with nothing, Fjordell player scanned Baker last night and came up with nothing. Fjordell Elantrian’s previous actions were scans on the other Fjordell players which came back with nothing.

Wait, what? xD I thought it was so I could shift votes from the 4 to the 2 to make it 3-3-3 to clear players xDD

xD I mean that works too, I like the 4-4 idea too

Bort (4): Baker, Tani, JNV, TJ
JNV (3): Kas, Mat, Bort
TJ (1): Sart
Tani (1): Devotary

I'm mostly okay with this vote count. I'd prefer the 2 count to be on Tani as opposed to TJ since e!TJ wouldn't kill himself and we'd want v!TJ to stay alive (noting that v!TJ largely necessitates on of those three being evil and there's no way the elims started with 7 votes from 5 people and a Forger). Mostly this just clears a Tani+Baker world since I'm not sure why e!Tani would defend v!Baker to this point and claim a day scan as clearing. Either option would probably work. @Sart what do you think?

LG84 Aftermath: Regressive Negotiations

A note found on the desk of Eshena, courier of the Teod Empire.

Consider this a confession, for I do not wish to pass on with only enemies to share my story.

Everything I do, I do for Teod. We are stronger than the rest. Our navy can defend against any threat. Why should we bend? Why should we kneel? A treaty would ruin us. So I did everything to ensure that it would never come to pass. I poisoned Teo diplomats. We already had one who believed as I do in the ranks, but one was not enough. They will live. Probably. I set fire to the boat that brought us here. It was a boat from Teod, mine to destroy by right. I killed people. They didn’t deserve it. They, like I, were only trying to do right by their empires. But their wishes contradicted mine, so I ended them.

My allies fell, as swift and as painfully as Elantris, and soon I was alone. There is no way forward for our cause. There are too many trusted diplomats in our number, too many exalted names, and soon, I will be caught. They will not be merciful. I regret nothing save for my failure. When Teod crumbles, remember me. Remember my failure. Only then will I be mourned. Only then will they see that I was right. We are strong, but soon, we will not be. I can only say that I tried.

For Teod,

Eshena

The remaining diplomats crowded around the note. They weren't sure whether to believe it, whether it meant they were safe, whether it meant that they'd killed Bortington for nothing. Somehow, at least one member from every Empire was still alive, even if some were in better shape than the others. They tried briefly to negotiate, getting little progress, before retiring for the night with bated hopeful breath.

Day broke without a sound.

They met again, wondering if it was a trick, and managed to settle a trade route between a few small islands.

Day broke without a sound.

They heard from their seons, heard that the Fjordell were sending a ship to pick them up, to rescue them.

Day broke without a sound.

The negotiations had been disrupted, but while some were scared, others took the lead that their work was more important then they realized. And while their drafts were rushed and incomplete, they would provide an excellent foundation for a Sel united once more.

Bort was executed! They were an Elantrian Diplomat within the Fjordell Empire!

JNV was executed! They were a Regular Disruptor within the Teo Empire!

Final Vote Count:

  • Bort (4): JNV, The Baker, Tani, |TJ|
  • JNV (4): Matrim's Dice, Bort, Kasimir
  • Tani (1): Devotary of Spontaneity
  • |TJ| (0): Sart

Congrats to the Villagers for winning the game! And thank you @Elbereth and @xinoehp512 for helping me run it!

Edit: And should probably mention, thanks to @JNV for the first section of this writeup!

Docs should be going up soon, but I figured I should post this first.

Sorry Bort! At least I was on JNV :P

I'll be the first to say that the win isn't as nice as it looks, since (I believe) technically Archer should have survived Day One. After that, who knows? We only got JNV and shadow through ties, so without the rule change, who knows? That being said, we had some nice analysis to get to those ties and it's nice to see the villagers being the lucky team for once

@JNV, I'm gonna have to be careful in the future xD I really only suspected you by virtue of eliminating all other possibilities, it was nothing you did. In retrospect I think I noticed a tell but I'm also keeping that to myself  @Archer, rest assured that you had me fooled :P. Illwei was mostly self pres (even if I was side-eyeing her a bit) but I did get shadow so I'm at least happy about that :P TJ's vote manip and lack thereof in early cycles was what won the game though, thanks! @shadow1, hope you stick around!

@Devotary of Spontaneity, @Bort, and temporarily @Thaidakar the Ghostblood, thanks for being good doc mates and cheers for having the only pure Empire on Sel! :P

I haven't rolled elim since LG77, discounting BT1, so hope that happens soon xD But this was the first survival in a while, which is also always nice and I really do enjoy solving.

Thanks to @Ashbringer and @Elbereth for running it and dealing quickly with any/all issues that arose!

Thanks to @|TJ| and @Orlok Tsubodai for being such great bros. When I showed up in the Arelene doc, the shock of happiness just ate through the state of exhausted, numb nothingness I'd been inhabiting. It felt like a sign from the SE gods/RNGesus to sit back and chill for most of this game, which I even managed to successfully do. Really enjoyed our in doc madness and fun :)

TJ bhai, FYI, I was pushing you this hard in thread because I was worried that Sart was gonna go renegade and try to nightshoot you, and wanted to show him there's a strong Village consensus on you. You were my Light Village read, so yeah :P

Orlok, Overcommitment Bro - I'm just really happy to be playing and solving in a game with you again, no matter the outcome :) Even if we may have unexpectedly recognised each other's alignment a bit too early into the game :P This was easily one of the most fun games I've had this year, even if we were mistaken, and I am very happy we got to be Villagers together instead of E/E or V/E.

@_Stick_ Next time pls check if im dead first kthx :P

Hyper Kas faded as the game went on and especially after they murdered Orlok ( >:( ) but fortunately, by then it didn't matter. I'm just glad my vote went onto Orlok's killer, so I can properly say he's been avenged >>

@shadow1 Fun first game with you, maintain your choice of allegiance was...unfortunate :P

Edited to add: FYI, for anyone who wanted to see 20-40%% Village Kas: this is him :P Very little heavy work, slacking off, chilling with my bros, master of tunnels. I did warn y'all I have the one thing problem, well, this is it :P

Edited to add 2: Thanks to @The Baker for trying to keep me alive - sorry it got you sussed!

Thanks to @Ashbringer and @Elbereth for running this game; thanks for the support when things got rough, and especially thank you for letting me stay in FRIENDS doc. This was the highlight of the game for me, and I regret nothing, not one second of it <3

Oof, this might be the first time I've been the victim of a sweep :P

Excellent play by the town! What can you say when someone just beats you through genuine good play and hard work? :) Y'all deserve it.

I really enjoyed playing with you all, this is a very nice community!

Thank you for sincerely believing I was Village ;-;

My biggest regret yet is not letting my team down, but for not realizing I could have claimed Elantrian :pensive:

Oof. Good game, village.
-I appreciate y'all thinking I had a genius master plan cooked up with e!Aman but really I just picked an unnecessary fight and didn't properly defend my side of it. Would have liked to have had JNV's backup on that one to confirm my assertions that Aman genuinely did have some suspicious comments (by my D1 standards anyway), but it was on me to realize he wasn't on to do that. I apologize for my timing.
-That shouldn't have killed me though. Having two teammates not vote and the third accidentally bus me was why that exe ended on me, and that shows an elim team failure to properly prepare for EoD. As Illwei alluded to, ensuring an elim team composition involves people who are on (near rollover) is important for balance.
-I think the distribution of elims among the docs being predictable also contributed to our downfall.
-Otherwise, you can't really plan for Illwei's elim slip or the votes moving suddenly at D3 EoD to the peripheral candidates, so I don't think my team did as badly as the results make it look. I enjoyed playing (briefly) with you three. :D.
-Speaking of unpredictability, if you're going to vote at the last second, I strongly advise posting with at least a 15 second buffer time before the top of the hour. You know who you are. :P.
-One plot twist I was happy with was the light on roles distro. I appreciate you mixing it up, Ashbringer.
-I think image-only playstyles reduce the game's solvability so much that they shouldn't count as contributions in the eyes of the activity filter.
-I also think that if you have a meta problem like Kas did with Stick subbing in, you shouldn't discuss it in thread until it is resolved. The advice given to both players should have been not to talk until the IM ruled how to proceed. It was a mistake for Kas to provide details instead of having the GM give the update, because his talk of maybe needing to be filter killed could have impacted people's read of them.
Thanks for running this, GMs, IM!

Baker and I thought you were village, just he didn't want you to die, and I thought his gambit might work.

@The Baker I am forever going to call that kind of thing a Baker Gambit.

Tbf basically me and why I was setting up anti-TJ arguments in thread despite believing he was Village :P So fair enough!

Edited to add: By the way @Tani, good game :) You did well. I think there's something to be said for managing to appear so powerfully Village that the PoE just shrank to Bort and JNV. Good work!

Hi hi hi that was fun being the last elim is very stressful and kinda unwinnable here but it was great I think technically might have earned that lifetime achievement award several things conspired agianst us to stop the victory some out of our control some just my bad there the Archer death was a major hit striker not getting those votes in time was kinda unfortunate the Amanuensis modkill led to another vote panic led to shadows death and shadow was pretty clean honestly and the bad thing about shadow death is it cleared way way way too many people just really unwinnable there then the role nonsense there at the end gah not so great situation and the one really really really big mistake I made was not killing Kasimir if you want to read my fvie stages of last elim grief skim the evil doc thats basically the last few pages or read it for two definitely villagers being definitely villagers intheir native environment before one of the last two of an endangered species gets brutally murdered by a mob of angered diplomats

@The Baker your gambit worked theo nly reason I iddnt kill Kasimir was cause you sussed them and I was hoping to get you voted off eventually so yeah gold star a plus that was what got me killed methinks so great job there

@shadow1 best scumchum I could have asked for thanks bud you left me too soon

@Amanuensis best non evil doc buddy I could have asked for love you I wanted you to live forever also in your eyes did I win the lifetime achievement award of gaining your trust as evil and proving turnabout to in fact be fair play?

@Tani do you have any idea why you just always seem evil to me like even as evil you just seem so scummy so evil so wonky and I dont get it

@Kasimir I salute you definitely should ahve killed you I was a fool oh well

@Ashbringer this was a great first evil game of all the evil games Ive had in various places even if it was a clean sweep I had fun this was great all the love youre the best hope to play another game by you some time

Honestly though I wouldnt have confirmed your assertions at all I thought your post was as scummy as scummy could be I completely disagreed with you and I would have bussed you no hesitation if Id been on so... honesetly might have been better that way though ties killing all really messed us up there but yeaha if Id been on youd have definitely died I would have argued you into the grave

honestly depends on the images early Baker eh maybe not later Baker was actually kinda helpful a bit

is it the not voting thing yeah I noticed that too thats my bad Ill have to work on one being online more two forming genuine looking opinions as evil three getting over my paranoia over being seen as evil and just trying to be trusted instead of well liked

the one really really really big mistake I made was not killing Kasimir

Actually really disagree here—Orlok was leaning towards voting you this cycle. You're right to say that the main question mark when it comes to Orlok is if he'd have been too late via reading past cycles to be active in this one and make that push for you, but I think either way, votes were coming for you. The fact that Fjordell had softcleared Baker and Sibling meant that the PoE was always going to be functionally <JNV, Bort, Tani> once TJ showed up in thread (even on my death) to confirm I'd softhardcleared Orlok (assuming Orlok's survival—Confirmed Good =/= Confirmed Right but the fact my read on Orlok was based on close personal meta familiarity should have helped) and to explain his Forging as softclearing him.

Tani was really good at appearing Village this game (don't ask me how, I don't know, I was tired and reading the thread and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get myself to feel good about voting for Tani over you, so you were always going to be my vote. Bort was odd but Bort voting for you despite his scan didn't make sense for E!Bort, so Bort was also a non-starter for me, but anyway I overslept so didn't engage further.)

The one really, really big mistake you made was killing Orlok and leaving behind a sad, angry, and vengeful Kasimir :P (No, just kidding—that didn't make a difference to the game, in my view: only to me </3 )

1 hour ago, Matrim's Dice said:

I saw </3

No game is complete without in doc paranoia I see, Shuffle Squat Bro :eyes:

Edited to add: @JNV - on Tani, my theory is that you don't really get/have a hard time with dealing with the somewhat more chaotic players, including Tani and Thaid. It's something I've noticed in your play history even though you also comment you're susceptible to emotion. Not sure why you had an Evil read on Stick in my MR, but that's a separate issue. I wish I knew why my gut was that strong on Tani, but I attribute it to having seen V!Tani in action quite a bit. I felt her responses were very pure (direct, authentic maybe?), and in the case of the Day scan, just too out of the loop to be Evil. As Devo said later on, it's also just hard to see E!Tani trying to claim a Day scan clears V!Baker/E!Baker, or for E!Tani to even be Day scanning or admitting to it—her teammates should've talked to her about this before this cycle.

A celebratory cake to commemorate this delightful victory! Truly a wonderful occasion!

Thank you dearest hosts @xinoehp512 @Elbereth @Ashbringer for putting together this glutenous experience!

And thank you all for being such joys to play alongside, even though some of you were moldy bread in the game, you're all delightfully fresh bread outside of it in my book bread box!

(Also Naan shoutout to @Amanuensis:D I'm glad you found my baking to be entertaining!)

My read accuracy for finding wolves this game was a bit below what I usually aim for (I blame getting stuck on the assumption that there was 1 elim per doc!), but @Kasimir was obv-town fairly early and I had confidence in him leading town to a victory if I just made sure he stayed alive!

@Matrim's Dice and @Devotary of Spontaneity voting for wolves two of the first three days also made them very easy to lock-in as "never-flip" picks as well, very well played to the both of you!

@JNV And I'm glad to hear my gambit worked! For what it's worth, you did have me fooled and there was a good number of people I wanted to flip before you! Very well played!

@Tani I'd be honored to have a gambit in my name :) I enjoyed your company in our doc very much!
