Wayne's Unlucky Hat
We use so much Aluminum everyday while the poor era 2 folks would literally kill for an ounce of it. Proof that we use a lot of Aluminum:We throw it away, we make cans out of it and then throw it away. Why dont we try to show the era 2 folks how to easily make it.

The Washington Monument has a capstone made of one of the rarest metals of its age: Aluminum. It takes huge amounts of that mysterious force called "Electricity" (ie. "Tamed" Lightning). But once you have a lot of it running your industry anyway, it becomes one of the more common and easily worked metals around. For Earth anyway.
cometaryorbit
IIRC, part of what made aluminum really cheap in the US is big hydroelectric dams built during the Great Depression which produced massive amounts of electricity, and then manufacturing facilities built for WWII.

Aluminum is not cheap just in US. And on Scadrial they can also have Hydroelectric Dams (In New Seran maybe?). Dont even mentioned potential limitless electicity with Iron Feruchemy.

I know, but I think those US efforts were an important part of making it cheap in the first place (back in the 30s-40s, when a lot less of the world was industrialized, not current day). Scadrial will probably have hydroelectric dams eventually, but I think they are just getting into electricity, that development is probably a bit in the future. Same for using Iron Feruchemy to generate electricity, etc. By Era 3 aluminum will surely be super cheap, just like it was by the 1980s in the real world. But right now (as of BoM) they are too early in the electricity age.
AerionBFII
It’s crazy how all of a sudden aluminium became common. Napoleon had a set of aluminium dinner ware he used to set out for important guests. If you were not important you got the gold set.
