Chaos
That seems like a confusing distinction, but it actually isn't if you look closely. Hemalurgy is of Ruin because the power has a very high cost--it requires a great deal of destruction. Even then, Hemalurgic charges decay. There's net loss, and that's why it is of Ruin. However, the actual power that Hemalurgy steals is based in Preservation. When stealing the Allomantic abilities, a spike is stealing that particular connection to Preservation. In stealing the "human" attributes, Hemalurgy steals the base Preservation inside all people. Even in Feruchemy, you're stealing a combination of Ruin and Preservation. And, of course, of the two of those, that connection to Preservation would be the one to keep you alive, "preserving" you.
Zas678
Another way to think of it is if some money was being loaned from Fort Knox to a bank, and then thieves took all the money, the money would be "Of the Thieves (as in it came by theft)", but would still be the Fort Knox's money. EDIT- My analogy was lame before. I fixed it somewhat.
