Kelsier in a Gemstone?

Trusk'our

Question

Most cognitive shadows require some intake of investiture to sustain themselves, while others don’t. In the RoW headings written by the hearalds, it says that the heralds needed the bond of the Oathpact to stay alive, and so when Jezrien was captured with a raysium dagger, it also cut him off from the Oathpact, eventually causing him to die. Would Kelsier, being a Sliver, die if he were to be captured in a gemstone, or would he remain “alive”?

I think all beings that are primarily made of Investiture require Investiture for sustenance. Even the spren seemed more energetic after the Highstorm. Dunno how long Kelsier would stay alive captured in a gemstone compared to a Herald, but I think eventually he'd succumb too

Agreed.  There is a WOB that a mortal person that managed to steal an actual Divine Breath (via hemalurgy) would gain the benefits without needing to feed it the weekly breath, which implies the sustenance is only needed because the person is being Pulled Beyond and requires the additional Investiture to hold off that inevitable (similar in a vague sense to Atium Aging, if probably not the same mechanisms).  I think Spren are more tolerant of Gem imprisonment because they are natively Cognitive beings that dont actual require a Physical form to exist or survive.

Based on Kelsier's perspective after he was a Shard and gained extra knowledge from it, he didn't seem to think there was a risk of moving to the Beyond unless he wanted to. The difference between Kelsier and other Shadows is that his very being was expanded and fundamentally altered by holding a Shard whereas beings like Heralds and Returned are just "normal" Shadows that have been gifted and sustained by a Shard.
