  1. Alright, so in TLM we see people get spiked who aren't Allomancers. We also see them claim that the spike can be filled with 20-30 people. They also say that they haven't figured out how to key it to a specific ability. Do we know what those are? My current theory is that they are stealing the Connection to Preservation that causes Allomancy.
  2. First Post, if I didn't tag anything correctly, I apologize. I did try, I think. Anyway, I'm midway through relistening to Oathbringer and heard something that probably doesn't tie into The Lost Metal but figured I'd ask because I couldn't find anything about it via Google search. In Oathbringer, Chapter 107, The First Step: Dalinar is discussing battle strategies with the leaders of the other kingdoms of Roshar and this quote just caught my attention. Is it possible that there is relationship to army that Marasi sees in The Lost Metal? I realize the colors are reversed, and assume that it is intentional, but I just heard it and couldn't ignore it so I have to ask. I have a strong feeling that I know I'm probably grasping at straws, but I've kind of been doing a lot of research lately and itching to post something. Also, how much free range do I have to spit ball random theories? Should I create a new post for each one or can I just pop off in the replies section to this post? Gracias
  3. There's a man named Fion among the Set's scientists working under Gave, directly related to Edwarn's eugenics project and near Autonomy's planned entry point for the invading army. How likely is that Fjon, the Derethi priest that mortally wounded Hrathen at the very end of Elantris? We know that the Derethi have learned to alter their appearance to a different ethnicity, and it makes sense that Trell would have loyal safeguards in place. It's also a bit suspiciois that a recognizeable name is tossed out when others remain unnamed in the section it comes up.
  4. Harmonium-trellium reactions is the second or third most powerful explosion in the known Cosmere, (after anti-investiture and same type anti-investiture). The issue is getting the Harmonium in the bullet into the proper state to be split. I believe sunlight spores provide the answer. While the heat won't get it into the state on it's own, it reduces the electrical requirement, and can provide the electricity via heat conversion. That brings the 3 big questions. Is this accurate, How big is the smallest bullet, and What are your critiques?
  5. I was thinking over TLM again, and I wondered how Wax managed to use his duralumin-enhanced Steelpush to make it to the ship from the tower since he didn't have any burnable duralumin on him (I mean, I guess he could have taken some flakes from Dumad's stomach, but... yeah). And then I remembered Gertruda saying- on page 329 of TLM. And then when Wayne tricked Dumad into pushing them into the air and Wayne dumped his aluminum canteen, Dumad tried to search himself for his back up vials, only to find none. So, basically, Gertruda is the worst sidekick ever, it would seem Also, this would explain how Wax got some duralumin to burn; he lifted it off of Gertruda.
  6. I just stumble across this quote from TLM, ch 15, which give me the idea: And I think this might be the key to splitting Harmonium. Wax didn't just have the Intent to create Lerasium, he did the experiment without any desire to use both metals. He didn't want to use either Atium or Lerasium if he succeeded. He had already held the power of Fullborn and didn't want to have it back. Like he said, creation of Atium and Lerasium wouldn't change anything about him - he was Preserving himself. And I think this specific intent, to create god metals without any desire to use them or change yourself, is the key to getting Lerasium. After TLM events, Kandra did the experiment specifically to create Atium for Marsh, and probably to use Lerasium in some other ways, therefore the intent wasn't met. There are a lot of theories about this, but I still feel there must be something with the intent that prevented Kandra from creating Lerasium.
  7. Reposting my post here from reddit, just cause. I write these words in steel this post because I've been thinking about it more than is probably healthy and needed to put it up somewhere. The problem is that Allomancy and Feruchemy are rare and genetically derived, which limits Scadrial's growth and security. And, I'm growing increasingly certain that the best way to achieve Kel's goal of democratizing access to powers is with this new way of performing Hemalurgy the Set discovered. What we actually see and know for certain is that the Set made Hemalurgic spikes through a non-lethal, accumulative way that briefly granted the bearer powers. They did so by spiking the extra bit of Preservation from people's souls and, somehow, coding(???) the spike with a power. Shai then speculated that since they can charge spikes with raw Preservation from souls, it should be possible to create them with raw Investiture, pointing towards the jar of purified Dor while saying so. From here, we can speculate that the following might be possible: Creating Kandra Blessings through the same method the Set used. Potentially creating Kandra Blessings entirely from scratch through the method Shai theorized. Recharging decayed spikes with raw (and likely purified) Investiture to maintain the strength of the power they provide. Potentially overcharging Hemalurgic spikes to grant a stronger power than what it stole. A partially charged spike might still be used to grant a weaker power. The Set seemingly used only the spikes charged to 100%* but I don't see any compelling reasons why it would be a requirement. The problem with the existing method is that it's yet to successfully grant a power and Shai was just speculating. But Realmatically we have several issues: Identity contamination. As mentioned by Marsh earlier in the book, this might be a reason why the method fails — the power granted is keyed to a weird Identity mash that a bearer has trouble accessing. Fundamentally, Hemalurgy is about taking something away. While the end-negative/-positive classification became less useful as time passed, I have trouble believing that it can be hacked to an extent that the main Intent behind the magic is completely sidestepped. According to Ars Arcanum, Hemalurgic decay no longer exists, making the recharging idea irrelevant. Note: it is unclear which of the two decays Khriss meant (spikes losing power over time when not in a body/a steak or spikes having a weaker power in a recipient than a donor). While we know of a few man-made items that overshadow traditional Hemalurgy and Feruchemy in terms of Investiture density(Nalthian Blades and maybe Bands), we know nothing that suggests that the extra power would augment the Hemalurgic part of the spike instead of sitting beside it. Creating spikes from scratch seems too simple. And judging how wrong many of us were about the Medallions, there might be more to it than it first appears. What I propose is a mixed method of the perfected technique the Set used and Shai's theoretical one. You take the extra Investiture from a person's soul (what Kel called the "heart of Preservation") in a spike just like we saw in the book. Then, you charge the spike the rest of the way with raw/purified Investiture, code a Metallic Art into it, and give this spike to the same person - completely avoiding Identity contamination. The good (if it works, obviously): Completely democratizes Metallic Arts. Any non-Metalborn can become one. Society, politics, money, scarcity, and other similar problems will obviously prevent everyone from getting powers, but depending on how available the Investiture will become I'm confident that Scadrian society can get to a point where all educated professionals can get a spike after finishing education/graduating from uni/college/academy/etc. Spikes accumulate after their bearers die and can be reused by future generations. Bearing a spike shows one's devotion to Harmony, Death, and Sliver. People finally get to choose what power they get. Completely circumvents the genetic aspect of the Metallic Arts. Can be fully automated with sufficient technological advancement. We don't have surgical robots this good, but we aren't far from making one. Especially, since the procedure isn't that complicated. Note: I assume here that Hemalurgy can be automated similarly to how Brandon said making Soulstamps can. Will publicize Heamlurgy as an Invested Art, which will lead to a deeper understanding of souls in the cosmere. The bad: Still adds to social inequality through corruption, inheritance laws, and economic inequality. Will publicize Heamlurgy as an Invested Art -> people will be killing one another to get their powers or steal their spikes. -> Mistborn serial killer Gives Harmony/Discord a way to your soul. Will popularize piercings. Thoughts and ideas are welcome.
  8. Not once in era 2 do we see a Set member using a Hemalurgic spike that granted Feruchemical steel (Paalm doesn't count; she allied with the Set, but wasn't an official member). There were only a few known Steelrunners that Vwafendal had known about (was it three?), but even with Idashwy's power taken by Paalm, wouldn't the Set have had at least one or two Steelrunners available to spike? It's not like they didn't know how to access rare Feruchemical powers either: their small pile of Hemalurgic spikes providing Feruchemical gold prove this. It just seems like such a potentially powerful ability that the Set would have been absolutely giddy to get their hands on it. So why didn't they?
  9. Hi Everyone, this is my first time posting, please be gentle! Massive Brandon nerd (every book, every shardcast, every forum). I have just finished the Lost Metal and Tress. After reading both my mind keeps coming back to Wax’s strange visions of blue lines, and Harmony’s comment that he had inhaled some Lerasium so may already be a mistborn. He also made a comment about something not working out the way he intended with Wayne. I am then reminded that he required a duralumin spike rather than just burning it when he would have been mistborn at that point. My theory is that this is how the metallic arts will be reintroduced into the population somehow. His new allomantic side effects are different than the norm. If someone where to inhale lerasium wouldn’t they need to burn the new fuel reserve? If it’s a direct inhalation into the lungs, is it possible that Wax now has a new type of lerasium floating around his bloodstream. Would this fundamentally create a new power set. Would it still forge a connection to Preservation?? Is it possible that any new children would be able to generate lerasium in their blood ( can’t see how the actual particles could be transferred based on biology.) I feel that there is something there, deliberate on Brandon’s part that we are just skipping over.
  10. I think that Kelsier is the one who had the Bands drained. He wants to promote tensions between the N and S in order to force technological advancement, and realized that the North "secretly" draining the Bands would cause major bad feelings between them. He was in the South just very recently and was on an airship back North when Marasi and Moonlight tried to contact him. And Kelsier is the Survivor in the North, head of a major religion, and the Sovereign in the South. If he wanted to, he could easily get both continents to work together. But having them at odds works better for the future of Scadrial (in Kelsier's opinion).
  11. Kels epilogue shows he no longer has Allomancy, Hemelergy doesn't work as he knows it outside of helping him reach the physical realm. This also insinuates the medallion system doesn't work for him. Hence the naming of the Bands.. he's mourning his loss of Allomancy.. another "failed" experiment.
  12. Put all your memes with spoilers for The Lost Metal and/or its prerelease content here! Here's one to start us off (yes i like the seagull meme template don't @ me)
  13. I think I have figured something out, although this is in no way confirmed. I was re-reading HoA and I was pondering hemalurgic spikes in Kandra. Now we know that Kandra Blessings are two spikes which together grant sentience and a power of some kind. In SoS Bleeder uses unknown methods to not only grant herself Feruchemy speed while only using one spike. However, I always thought it was odd that she also manifested a power we have only seen Ruin and Harmony use up to this point. She takes moments to speak to Wax in his mind. At the time I just kinda went with it, it was an exciting time in the story. However, I realized that this should have sent up several red flags. I mean, not only does she use the metallic arts which we thought was impossible, but then she invades Wax's mind like that. That's not even a power we have observed a mortal being using before! Here is where I will delve into the interviews with Brandon. There was a question about ReLuur, and if one of his spikes is Atium. TLDR: RAFO http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='reluur' Now, this is obviously about a different Kandra but we know they know more than they are telling Wax and Wayne at the moment. It seems likely that Atium in some form is still accessible to some Kandra. This is what really holds my theory out. You see, I was contemplating the fact that Brandon has written sayuing that you could make alloys with both Larasium and Atium and produce 16 alloys. We know that the Laraseium alloys make Mistings, and it's been hinted that Atium alloys would have various temporal effects. So here is the long and short of it all: Bleeder's single spike might steal the possible abilites of the Atium-Brass Alloy Now the spike itself might not actually be made of that material since it's hemaleric in nature. But I believe it steals the powers of burning Atium-Zinc or Atium-Brass allomancers. This is a stretch but let me walk you through what we know: 1. Bleeder can somehow talk in the minds of thoses spiked with Hemalergy. 2. Bleeder cannot be using more than one spike while she does this. 3. Bleeder has knowledge of Hemalergy that is far beyond the current understanding of Harmony's people (as far as we know). 4. Bleeder's spike was made of an unknown metallic alloy. Now the power of speaking in minds is a bit of a stretch, but it certainly seems like a possibility of a twisted external mental allomantic ability. It also feels more like a pushing rather than a pulling ability. I mean, that is the most realistic explanation for this strange and invasive ability. *Edit: Thanks to some awesome readers, I have seen references that clarify that Bleeder's spike is made from a metal that Harmony doesn't know. However, this doesn't change the foundation of the theory. Thanks to those who took the time to source the quotes!* As my final point of support in this theory, I will need to delve into Secret History here: So there it is, I have no idea how viable this is, or where exactly the atium came from. It either has reappeared or it was salvaged from an older stash. But I am happy I finally got this out there. It's such a cool concept to think about. I wonder how this could be applied in combat, and if there is a limited range that this communication is restricted to. *Edit: Changed my wording for clarification.
