  1. So, turns out that there is no thread about this show on 17th Shard yet, so I decided to fix that. Talk about anything concerning this show! I would like to start off with a meme. Oh, wait, I forgot. This whole show is a meme. Oh, well, here's a scene that would totally pass as a meme.
  2. Hello, 17th Shard! I'll be brief, direct, and to the point. No one likes an off-topic, meandering first paragraph, right? Why, just the other day I was reading a topic and thinking "Gee, some people just can't seem to hold a thought..." Ahem. Here's the issue: my family and I enjoy viewing various television programs every night. It helps us unwind, relax, and avoid the Almighty-cursed proposition of having a conversation of an evening. (We get along just fine, but no one quite feels like chit-chatting at the end of a day.) Unfortunately, here lately we have completely run out of quality entertainment material, leaving us woefully without a show every evening. We'd appreciate some good recommendations for television shows, if it's not too much trouble. We avoid shows with excessive gore or sexual content, and would prefer clean, family shows. We're fond of Doctor Who, Firefly, Once Upon a Time, and clean sitcoms such as Corner Gas. We've been known to indulge in well-written cartoons like Phineas and Ferb, but they're not generally our first choice. The 17th Shard is a well-versed community when it comes to entertainment, so I look forward to seeing what recommendations you have. Thanks in advance.
  3. It's no secret that a lot of Sanderfans are still extremely hopeful to see some of our beloved author's books onscreen at some point. Much talk is made of Mistborn video games or a Steelheart movie, and I've seen much talk from people advocating a Stormlight television series. What I'm here to discuss is something very different: the Reckonerverse shown in a television universe, as I've seen suggested here and there around the forums. While I love the Reckonerverse with all my heart, I'm puzzled at how a television series centered around the Reckoners would work. Until David Charleston joined their ranks, it seems like their adventures weren't exactly television material... Episode 1: Pilot episode. The setting and characters are introduced, including the High Epic Redleaf. He is such a slontze that the Reckoners unanimously agree to make him their next target. Episode 2: A long and lengthy meeting ensues, in which Prof lays out his plan for carrying out the hit. Abraham argues that after this they need to try hitting a more important Epic like Steelheart, but is brushed off. Episode 3: The Reckoners rent an apartment but are annoyed to find that they have no internal heat. Cody attempts to make offerings to the Great Phouka that makes furnaces work. Episode 4: Villain episode! The episode is told entirely from Redleaf's point of view. He is such a slontze that series ratings plummet dramatically, prompting the writers to swear never to do anything innovative again. Episode 5: Tia's cola shipment arrives, but Prof is rude to the deliveryman. The other Reckoners teach him a valuable lesson about being kind to others. Episode 6: The Reckoners buy a helicopter. They accidentally sell Abraham's gun, in what the writers hope will become a running gag for the series. Episode 7: Knighthawk sends the team their phone bill. Tia desperately tries to keep Prof from seeing how much she's spent on mobile game apps, knowing that the knowledge would drive him instantly evil. Episode 8: Flashback time! Prof goes to a secret Reckoners summit in Babilar, leaving Tia to ponder the sequence of events that led her to drink her first cola. Prof later returns with a box of cookies that he refuses to share. Episode 9: First of two parts. The Reckoners finally put their plans into motion in a bold move to assassinate Redleaf. Episode 10: Second of two parts. The Reckoners' plan works perfectly with absolutely no complications. Prof leaps out of a helicopter and kills Redleaf. Afterwards they all go out for shawarma. Roll credits. ... Am I the only one who thinks they'd need some sort of extra hook? I'd prefer to put focus on a slightly more adventurous Reckoners team, or better yet, focus on both Epics and other vanilla factions like the Oregon RPG does. But I'd be interested in hearing other members' ideas on how to spice up a Reckonerverse TV series.
  4. I have stuffy sinuses from a cold right now, so I ended up staying up all night re-reading Steelheart. In addition to other things which I might go into later, this part from Chapter 32 intrigues me. I'm putting this in spoilers just in case there are people viewing this who haven't read the book. It makes sense considering the infrastructure we see in Newcago, but it still strikes me as odd--and potentially humorous--that citizens of Newcago have access to a hundred different TV channels dedicated to their amusement. What precisely is shown on these channels? Sitcoms? Soap operas? Mostly reruns of pre-Calamity programs? I mean, if Steelheart was still producing new episodes of Doctor Who, then maybe Megan was right and bringing him down was a bad idea.
  5. Sometime, in the distant future, some intelligent and lazy person in the Cosmere will invent the television. It has to happen. At some point. Maybe there's a fabrial for it (which is very likely; there's a fabrial for everything), or maybe it has to do with Southern Scadrial's magical machines of mayhem. At any rate, the question we should be asking is not if there will be televisions in the Cosmere, but what people will watch with them. So, without further ado, here's a trailer for a Rosharian Cooking Drama: (Cue Dramatic Voice) In a world, ravaged by storms, where death comes by the will of the wind... Five men will seek to gain glory with only their wits... and a spatula... The Horneater, born on the cliffs, his life dedicated to making food, and more importantly, eating it… The Shin, in a plant-filled kingdom, his only wish to convert his fellow chefs to veganism… The Alethi, punished for his past crime of making a new food with a perfectly symmetrical name, hoping to gain pardon for his insolence. The Herdazian, his arm lost in a tragic cooking accident, wishing to become the most popular of his cousins. And finally, the Parshman, his life sold to making fine food for others. Who will please the omnipotent god Odium? And who will die by the sword? Tune in next week for the first episode of… Scones Unhallowed! So, that's one Cosmere TV show. But what other shows could be developed?
