  1. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/105/#e1150 I saw this WoB about a spear being thrown through a speed bubble, and Brandon said the spear would be either in or out of the speed bubble, based on how it views itself. How do conjoined fabrials view themselves and does that affect their interactions with speed bubbles? For example, if you have a spanreed inside a speed bubble, and its paired spanreed outside, do they view themselves as one thing, and if so will they both be counted as inside or outside?
  2. So, I had an interesting realization the other day. We know that the speed bubbles from bendalloy or cadmium allomancy attach themselves to reference frames, and speed things up or slow them down relative to that reference frame. We know that those reference frames can be ones that experience acceleration: case in point, whenever a bubble attaches itself to the reference frame of the ground, which is rotating about Scadrial's axis and orbiting the sun. And, from the perspective of general relativity, any frame in which there is a gravitational field is really no different from an accelerated frame. We also know, from descriptions of the experiences of characters within speed bubbles, that nothing weird happens in regards to their experiences of gravity. They feel the same weight inside a bubble as they would outside a bubble. When you drop something inside of a speed bubble, it falls to the ground at the rate you would expect to see outside the bubble: it doesn't float in the air or suddenly crash to the ground. (You might call this an extended version of Einstein's equivalence principle: you can't tell whether you are inside a speed bubble by doing measurements on the weights of objects.) All this means that, in order for there to not be any weird effects on the weight of objects inside speed bubbles, is that speed bubbles have to treat inertial forces and gravitational forces the same way, just as we would expect from general relativity. And that means that if Wayne managed to anchor a speed bubble inside a large spinning centrifuge, he could observe the centrifuge slowed down (relative to the rate of time flow within the bubble) while still experiencing the full centrifugal force. If he dropped something inside, it would "fall" towards the outside of the centrifuge, even though the apparent motion of the centrifuge is practically stopped. Does anyone know of any WoBs dealing with speed bubbles in accelerated frames, or in free-fall? Someone needs to ask Brandon what would happen if Wayne burned bendalloy while on a merry-go-round, or while skydiving.
  3. I have been working a FTL theory here and am interested to know if anyone else has thoughts about this option. I recent read how Aluminum will create dead spaces in speed bubbles, that speed bubbles will move with the thing they are on if they are big enough and fast enough (train vs. stage coach), and the size limits we have seen and a little for fluid then portraied. See attached thread for details So would an aluminum room inside a speed bubble, protect the inhabitants from the relativistic effects of FTL? Also there is Bubble size and Vessel size to consider. if the vessel is completly enclosed i bet the rules will define us as small. so we will need multiple layers of bubbles each. i think turning one layer on for .2 seconds and off for 2 seconds leads us to needing at least 21 layers spaces .1 seconds apart. As for Bubble size we know anything touching the bubbles enters the bubble... so bubble size should be an issue BUT if each layer were comprised of multiple emitters space across the ship so the bubbles overlapped we should be ok right? If so here is my plan. I want to get Hoid as my traveling companion and discuss his views of the big picture going on out there. Step 1: Build a Southern Scadialian Airship. with LOTS of Ettmetal Step 2: Outfit it with the "engines" for lift and forward travel. also outfit it out with a "FTL drive" made with multiple layers of multiple Bendalloy engines (This should also compounding the individual effects to incluse the time dilation.) Step 3: IMPORTANT FOR THIS THEROY! Out a room in the ship so the people inside can survive the vacuum of space Oxygen tanks snacks etc. completely lined with Aluminium walls, ceilings, floors no gaps. Step 4: Bait the trap with juicy information that would attract Hoid (Any ideas that would keep him on my side?). Step 5: Wait for Hoid to show up, lock us in the aluminum space, and launch. Please aim for another Shardworld so we can resupply and head home. In summery Steel for pushing, Bendalloy for time dilation, Ettmetal for fuel, The metal for the investiture part of the engine (nicrosel), and Aluminum to negate relativity. I know this constant gets RAFOed and may have be discussed to death, but i would welcome anybodies thoughts here.
