  1. I have... an idea. And it's a massive one. (Yes, I just posted a status update about this, but this needs more publicity - and this thread will give more detail anyway ) So a lot of you guys may know the acronym CBST. Perhaps you also know that it stands for The Cosmic Battle to Save the Thread and that it was an RP started on TLT. Well, the CBST-verse is a MASSIVE one with cosmere-sized potential. See, as I said, CBST started on The Longest Thread and if you know anything about TLT, you know that it's a chaotic hot mess, which is... not exactly the most stable place to start a storyline. In the two years since CBST started, I have made MASSIVE leaps and bounds to organize the craziness that started there and I think that just maybe, we could really make something fun out of this. If y'all can't tell, I'm just begging for more CBST content, please send help. I'm sure that if you're reading this here and not in my status update, you'll need a tiny bit more elaboration. So, CBST is built around the concept of Narrators: beings with nigh-infinite power that are incredibly human. The magic system is based on the concept of Light, Darkness, Order, and Chaos. @xinoehp512 and I have worked very hard on the story, the characters, and the world that CBST takes place in. It's very dear to my heart and I think since everyone reading this is here on a book fansite, y'all will love the meta undertones about authors, writing, and story tropes that are a huge part of this world in which my heart resides. So here's what I'm proposing. I want to re-tell CBST. That implies that we'd just be re-doing CBST stuff, but that's not what I mean at all. There are so many different worlds, magic systems, and plot lines that could be explored here. If this sounds interesting to you AT ALL, just say so and I will add you to a planning PM. It will require some explaining of the magic (which I will explain as concisely as I can and allow for a ton of room for y'all to experiment) but I am STOKED for this to maybe take off. Happy RPing! Love you guys. Character Sheets:
  2. Finished! Nine characters from eight Shardworlds! From left to right: Dusk from First of the Sun / Kaladin from Roshar / Vasher from Nalthis / Hoid from Yolen / Harmony (Sazed) / Khriss from Taldain / Shai from Sel / Vin from Scadrial / Silence from Threnody This piece is also celebratory art! Happy Chinese New Year 2016 (Year of the monkey)! At first I drew these characters mainly for an online fantasy magazine because they kind of let me (as translator of WoR) introduce Stormlight and the whole Cosmere series in their New Year issue, which meant I’d better add some festival stuff. So here it is - Characters from eight different Shardworlds wishing you a Happy New Year! In China, this is a popular traditional gesture when people give New Year’s greetings. It’s called 作揖 (zuò yī, in spoken language: zuō yī). When you do this, you make a bow with hands folded in front of you and greet others at the same time. Raise your folded hands and then lower them. The motion can be repeated several times. For men, they should use their left hand to cover their right hand (In ancient China, men tended to hold weapon with their right hand, so they covered it when saluting, to reduce hostility and show respect.), while for women, they should do it otherwise and it’s better not to clench the left hand into a fist (You can learn this from the picture above.). If you do it wrong, you will convey some ominous meaning. Please be careful # # # Heck, so many tags! Also seriously, I think we may need a Cosmere crossover art album
  3. Hen

    Theopoils shade?

Theopolis was fully withered by a shade, so shouldn’t he have turned into one? Why didn’t he?
  4. Scenario time: Lets say you where a herald and you had just died ..... But instead of being tortured on Braize the voidbringers did research on you and decided to send you off somewhere else in the cosmere. To endure the worst that planet has to offer. Basically what I'm asking is what cosmere torture would you not want to endure for four thousand years.
  5. Hey guys, It's me again! Just finished and published my version of Silence's Lullaby from Arcanum Unbounded. I DID add some additional lyrics - for no other reason than that without them the song would have been 30 seconds long or highly repetitive. It's my first time writing/publishing lyrics to anything...I tried very hard to match the style and the topic to Brandon's original words. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the overall result. Anyway - hope you enjoy my take on the song! I'm sure other fans will be doing their's as well! :-)
  6. So, I just finished Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, which I shall henceforth refer to as Silence, for short. Aside from being an excellent novella, and a thrilling story, I noticed some stuff. For example: Why silver? Silver has never done anything on any other planets. In fact, it's been quite useless on Scadrial. Another thing I noticed: People on Threnody have very basic names, sometimes names that seem incongruous and yet familiar to those of us here on Earth. What if, dear readers (and this is a very big if), what they call "silver" on Threnody would be referred to as "aluminum" or possibly "ralkalest" on other worlds? Also, Threnody seems to be the major contender for the ever-elusive Survival Shard's hiding place, and you can possibly see its effects on the peoples of that world.
  7. I've just started listening to SSFH again and these very first sentences jump out at me. This almost sounds like a description of a worldhopper. This is the first time I'm reading this novella in awhile, so please enlighten me if we have some good theories about what this may be referencing!
  8. LG20: Warcamp Enigmas You are all members of the Alethi lighteyed nobility in the warcamps. Many of you have secret items in your possession. There are a few of you who are hiding other secrets. Whether you use those for good or evil is up to you. You have been infiltrated by some nefarious Ghostbloods who are attempting to steal a soulcaster and a shardblade from you. Killing them all before they obtain those is the only way to succeed. There is also a thief in your midst, though he may end up helping you. Format: This is a rerun of LG5, the first game I GMd. Each Day turn will be 48 hours and each Night turn will be 24 hours long. Rollover time will be 9 pm MST. Signups will end on April 22nd. 9. So I received my beautiful slipcased copies of Shadows of SIlence in the Forest of Hell and Perfect State today, and there was a preface in SoS that wasn't included in the previous versions of the story - I have typed it below for you, word for word, as I think it provides some interesting insight into Threnody... "When George R.R Martin approached me to ask if I'd be willing to contribute a story to Dangerous Women, I was ecstatic. George is known best for his Westeros books, but he is also an excellent author, having put together many anthologies. His recent themed anthologies with Gardner Dozois ave become something of a "Who's Who" in the fantasy and science fiction world. It was a real honor to be invited/ After he told me the theme was "dangerous women", I at first thought of Perfect State, the other novella in this collection. I had a very rough draft of that done, but hadn't submitted it anywhere for publication I sent that to George and Gardner, and they felt it wasn't on theme enough, and asked if I had anything else. I didnt, not yet, but something had happened recently that had planted a seed in my mind. I had been involved in some genealogy work, and had run across the name of a Puritan woman called Silence. That intrigued me. Who would name their daughter Silence, and for what reason? Charity I can get. Faith makes total sense. But Silence? Perhaps she was late int he birth order, and her parents were really hoping to sleep through the nights this time. Either way, the name stuck with me. I'd had the idea for Threnody, the Cosmere world when a group of pilgrimesque people fled the Old World because it was overrun by a terrible evil long ago. It was actually a very early Cosmere world, developed around 1999 or 2000. (Though the name didn't get assigned to it until Isaac gave a suggestion upon reading this novella.) Having an intriguing Puritan name and a world that took inspiration from early American history seemed a ready-made match, but I had to ask myself, how was Silence going to be dangerous? I was worried that the anthology was going to be stuffed full of women either in the "femme fatale" vein or the "I wear black leather and kick demon butt" vein. I've often felt that we, in fantasy, sometimes do a poor job of representing people (both male and female) who are powerful and capable in ways other than their ability to stand in a fight. Yes, giving a woman a sword is one way to make her dangerous, but I resist making every powerful woman into one who has become so by forcing her way into a traditionally male-dominated realm of face-to-face combat. The world was mostly formed in my head, though over the years I'd added the diea of the shades for various reasons. One was to show off a few hints regarding the Cosmere afterlife, and another came during my initial research for the Stormlight Archive, where I read a lot about classical Hebrew life and philosophy. The original idea for Threnody was to make a system of magical rules with their roots int he Law of Moses and Jewish tradition. (Not mixing blood with milk, not kindling flames after nightfall on the Sabbath etc.) Many of these rules transformed over the years, leaving their roots behind in the same way that the Stormlight magic system left behind its roots in the fundamental forces of physics. But you can see those hints still having an influence on the tone and setting of this story. This intersection of these ideas developed into this story, one that soon became one of my favorite Cosmere tales. I hope you enjoy it! (And no, for those searching, Hoid does not make an appearance. Unfortunately, he needed to be somewhere else in the timeline at this point.)
  10. Highprince Dalinar Kholin has invited you to a very special banquet, at none other than the king’s feasting basin. Though he declined to tell you his motives, you know better than to turn down an invitation from a man of such status. Plus, many of your closest allies and enemies are there, meaning that the feast will be abuzz with rumor and gossip. Such is the endless strife of a lighteyed noble such as yourself, attempting to catch the latest news of the goings-on throughout the warcamps and Alethkar itself. Of course, hearsay also tends to lead to lies, and lies lead to deceit, and deceit leads to corruption. While you’ve always felt that you can trust in your comrades, you’re beginning to think that something more may be going on. That, perhaps, you may not all be working towards the same goal... Nevertheless, a feast is a feast, so you might as well take the time to enjoy it, right? The Game Conspirators & Corruption Roles Messages Action Order And there's the game! As usual, if you have any game-related questions/clarifications, feel free to ask, either in-thread, or via PM. If you have not already done so, make sure to read the general rules to get an understanding of the basic rules and terminology in the games. For roleplay purposes, the signup phase will take place just before Dalinar’s great feast, at the king’s feasting basin. So if you want to do any pre-game roleplaying (as I’m hoping this game will have some interesting elements of roleplay involved), there’s the place you’ll probably want to get to. For further reference’s sake, this game takes place several months before the events in The Way of Kings. On that note, signups will end about a week from now, on August 19, and then the madness and corruption will begin! If you cannot join the game for some reason and wish to watch, PM me if you'd like to join the Spectator Doc. 11. So I was reading the Orem Library Signing on December 6 post and I came across this quote from zaz678: Assuming that Iyatil is actually the person Brandon is talking about and that she is a worldhopper then there is a high chance that we have seen her before somewhere. Now looking at what Brandon said about her not being from the same planet that her parents are from I can only think of how the people of Threnody had a history of migration and that some left the "homeland" or "fallen world" and moved to another continent. What if this "fallen world" was actually another planet? If all my ramblings are true and Iyatil is from Threndoy then there are only 2 people I can think of that could be her: Silence and Sebruki. Both are quite short (even though Sebruki is like 8 I think Brandon mentions that she is quite short anyway) I think Sebruki is a better match since she was really quite and deadly even as a child. So any thoughts? Also I don't know how to use quotes from other posts so can someone please tell me how to do that?
