  1. Two weeks, in a row. For reals. We're here. We're discussing lore in Elantris, chapters 4-6. Can we make it interesting when it's all setup? Do you like talking about Jindoeese food? How many cannibal jokes can we make? Will they be better or worse than the meat jokes? Will you imagine a shirtless Hrathen fighting a giant lizard? You be the judge. The answer: we make fun of Mi'ch being really bad at pronouncing Fjordell names. Also, we're pleased to say that Dragonmount.com is back online now. At the time of the recording it wasn't. Good job guys for getting through that attack! You make our server look like a broken dam. Spoilers: Again, there's Elantris spoilers (duh), slight discussion of Emperor's Soul, and some talk of Odium. (Don't Saze me, bro) Fun Facts (that we missed): Per Ashe's line about serving Sarene's family for a couple of centuries, Skai and Aona have been dead for at least two centuries at the beginning of the book According to the annotations, Brandon knows that the dramatic eye lock from chapter two is cliche, but still loves it. The sun rises in the east.
  2. Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas and happy Random Winter Solstice Holiday. Are you getting stabbed in the face? Perhaps the gut? No? You humans have such strange winter rituals. I, Inquisitor Santa, give Scadrial with far superior offerings. At least, to the most brutal of taskmasters, who constantly whip the skaa (what you would call "the Nice list".) But I have a busy night of people to kill and Hemalurgic spikes to grant people, so you Earthlings will simply have to live (or die, heh) with the ramblings of three other Earthlings. They discuss some "Pokemon" thing, and then there is a pale imitation of God's (Ruin's) voice, which is then referred to as "Batman". Bats are not menacing, lowly humans. Get it right. Oh, and this place called Elantris is discussed. So, what are you waiting for? Go click below and bind this episode of Shardcast permanently into your Spiritweb. Errata: Teoin is the capital of Teod, not Teoras. Also, let it be known that Eric totally said "Suck it" near the end, and not anything that rhymed with that.
  3. It's one Rosharan week later (actually two, whatever), so it's time for some Shardcast, and this time it's Episode Three: Revenge of the Plot. Yes, in chapters 7-9, some inklings of the plot actually happened, so of course Eric got bored and read the rest of the book. And, as such, has no idea what happened in the actual triad we were discussing. We solve many mysteries this week, like who is Mi'chelle's sister? Will Eric get shanked? Why is Josh invading someone's box? What did Eric do to need to be censored? (Okay, we don't really solve that last one. That's why it's censored.) Because really, what more could ask from Shardcast than such edgy humor like that? Oh, right, racism. Well, we have that too. Click on, open the door to the Dor and find out the answers you seek. Missed Facts: Hrathen originally takes credit for the fall of Duladen. Brandon took this out because he felt it was too heavy handed for an "innocent" meeting. Because of the triad system, Brandon felt the need to have something important to the characters happen in each chapter. Errata: So I clearly misremembered Chapter 8, and thought the lunch Josh was referring to was in this chapter. It is not. So, Josh is totally right in that this lunch scene was pretty unnecessary.
  4. We're back, and better (allegedly) than ever! We're switching it up, and now the main Shardcast will be our podcast where we go reading through each book. No, we aren't narrating every book--we know, you're sad--but Mi'ch, Josh, and Eric are here to give you commentary on the books, annotations, and everything! And try to make it entertaining, somehow. This episode's entertainment comes from meat. Vegetarians need not apply. You'll see. Starting off Season 1 of Shardcast, we will be reading through Elantris, and shockingly, we start at the beginning of that book, and go through Chapter 3. There's arguing about who is our favorite character, discussion of mold, beheadings, all leading up to what is surely the literal recording of the sound the Reod made. It is horrifying, because that's what Shardcast is all about. Apparently. Quick disclaimer: if you are adamantly opposed to light innuendo, maybe sit this one out? We'll be better next time. It's all Josh and Eric's fault. Spoiler Warning: Obviously, there will be Elantris spoilers, but we also go into a light Emperor's Soul discussion, a small Way of Kings spoiler, and slight Mistborn spoilers. (What of the old podcasts? They are Season 0 now. Don't worry, we will have fun theoretical stuff for you theorizers. Just you wait.) Fun Facts: The title of Elantris was originally "Adonis", and was changed only after Brandon's reading group asked him what relation Greece had to his story.
