So one of my friends is close to finishing Hero of Ages, and I want to present her with the choice of reading Secret History after Hero, and I want to be able to tell her the reasons for each reading order. So, what are the reasons for reading secret history after Hero or after Bands? After Hero the events are fresher in your mind, and after Bands you don't get spoiled on the reveal at the end, are there any more?

Should there be a "Suggested Prerequisites" or "References" list for each Cosmere book? Two thoughts led me to this: 1) The latest books seem have more and more tie-ins to other Cosmere worlds and magics. More and more, one needs to have read some previous books in order to understand all the references. I'm guessing this trend will only increase as the entire Cosmere is woven into one large saga. 2) I was thinking of recommending the books to a friend of mine, but realized I wasn't sure what I should recommend that they read first. Elantris, Warbreaker, and the start of the first Mistborn trilogy seem like good starting points (unless there are references that I missed - which is quite likely). I think it might be beneficial to new readers to have a list of "before you read that, you might want to read this". It can be just "suggested" because it's still possible to enjoy the main story without getting all the references. "References" might be better name for it - i.e. "This book references these other books". That would be able to handle the cases where two books take place at the same time and reference each other, as in the latest Cytoverse books. How a new reader accesses the list of references without being exposed to spoilers will be another challenge.

What it says on the title. Also, sorry if this has been asked before but I am trying to avoid stumbling into major spoilers by accident. So, speaking for myself, I have read all the Mistborn books and short stories/novellas so far aside from the recently released Lost Metal, along with Warbreaker, the Emperor's Soul, Elantris, and White Sand. It is with the Stormlight Archives that I suspect I may have a problem with, reference-wise. I have only finished the Way of Kings so far, although I finished part 1 of Words of Radiance the other day so I am trying to catch up. Thing is, I still have still several thousand of pages to cover between the point I am at and the remaining Stormlight volumes that have been released, not to mention the in-between novellas like Edgedancer so I am not sure if I will be missing Scadrial-related connections that would be worth spending a year or so reading through (the amount of time I expect it will take me to fully catch up with Stormlight at his rate) before I actually start Lost Metal. And since Mistborn is my favorite series of the Cosmere and the anticipation i killing me, I wanted to ask if it would be safe for me to read or if in your more informed opinion as fellow Cosmere fans, I should wait however long it takes for me to catch up with Stormlight before finishing Mistborn Era 2. Oh, and I have also not yet read the novella set on Therondy or Sixth of the Dusk either, should that also be relevant to this discussion. Thanks in advance for the replies.

I get a lot of questions from friends/family about what order to read the Cosmere in. There are a lot of 'roadmaps' out there, but most are rather old/out of date. I thought I'd share with the Shard the roadmap I put together (thanks for the inspo, whoever created this) for my loved ones. Note: This is current only up through February 2020 and does not contain several minor works. Edit: Updated per comments below. Edit 2: Posted to Reddit under Jadorel78 and updated 6/2020 Cosmere Roadmap - June 2020.pdf

Hi. I've read The Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris, and the first 2 in the Stormlight Archive only to now discover they all take place in the Cosmere and there is even some sort of suggested reading order. I have them all sorted up to #10, Wards of Radiance. And according to Book Catalogue (my book sorting App) Oathbringer is #15. So what is # 11, 12, 13, and 14? I would think The Bands of Mourning, Shadows of Self, and Edgedancer are 3 of 4...but what novella am I missing? Oh and I do own Arcanum Unbounded. Thanks and I look forward to digesting this site!!!

Hi everyone. So I have become a Sanderson junky. I have read all of the mistborn series, elantris and the emperor's soul. Should I do warbreaker or the SA next or maybe the short novels (6th of the dusk)
